How many times have you fallen down in the last 5 years. 1, 2, 3, 4, more______. I just put a question mark. It was fun to explain to a work injury/ therapy chiropractor. Their chin was on the floor!!
The conversation starts like....First I have to explain the difference in falling down and crashing.
Jump short and knock your head in the ground so hard that the helmet fly away!
Then on your second head bounce you knock your lower jaw in the ground so all lower teeths is compressed
then 10 minutes after you finished the race one tooth goes BANG and only half is left!
Btw dont buy Sinisalo
Like others, my back is also one of those 'broken' pieces.
Doc told me if I fall the wrong way (doing pretty much any impact type sport - including MX) odds are I probably won't be walking. I've yet to find anyone who could tell me the 'right way' to fall, so I'm a little nervous about it.
I still play ride at home on occasion, but haven't raced in some time.

I'll tell you what though, every time I go back to riding after being hurt, my bike is pristine! Injury time is time for taking the entire thing apart and doing a full rebuild. So that also makes me want to get back out there again more than ever because I want to go try out my bike.
It's a vicious cycle.
Its simple to see that you guys cannot ride worth a damn.
My pride has been hurt on several occasions.
Right Wrist
Right foot
Had my right hip look like a balloon for 2 weeks (not when I broke my femur)
Couple of cracked ribs
Hundreds of Bruises and Cuts
About it so far...
Fib in '97
Elbow in '98
Boxer's fracture on my hand in '99.
Scapula in 2000
AC separation later in 2000
Add in a broken thumb (x2), broken foot, some stitches and a handfull of concusions somewhere in there.
I never thought about "quitting" after an injury. I always figured the only way I wouldn't ride anymore is if I did not have a choice.
That happened in 2003. T4, T5 and T6 spinal injury.
-Lacerated right kidney
-Chipped a bone in my left wrist
-Lost toenail, big toe, left foot
Pit Row
2.broken ankle(4 times)
3.broken femur
4.torn acl/mcl
Been racing for 9 years now and thats my list. And every time once I realized I wasnt going to die from it my first question is when can I ride again.
shattered both eye sockets
both tear ducts
both cheek bones
my sinus cavity and entire nose
my forehead
tore the ligament in my right eye, and got permanent damage to my right retina
Now I'm rockin a titanium nose and plastic eye socket. A count of 5 screws too.
All from a rock in another girl's roost. Yes, I was wearing goggles.
3 months prior, I tore my right ACL completely from the bone, opted to wait on surgery. 4 months prior to that, I knocked myself out cold for a couple minute long dirt nap.
I had to get back on the bike just because of the adrenaline rush. Besides, I feel too lazy being off the bike.
FIVE I repeat, 5 stinking months in that "llizarov fixator" crap!!!!!!!!!
Then Tib Fib had to be REBROKE and internal fixation applied by a competent surgeon..........................OH...........................MY...........................................
My worse injury/fix, EVER!
Hope you're doing good. I'm happy to be walking.
How you doing today?
Like I have anything to cry about.
Why do I keep coming back? I'm miserable not riding. Every great moment in my like I can think of had to deal with riding my dirt bike. I quit racing almost 5 years ago to go to school. I graduated in may and the first thing I buy once i find a job is a bike.
I've rode maybe 8 times in the last 5 years on borrowed bikes, 2 of them being 2 weeks ago. The second time I stacked it up off a small double and hurt my heel bad enough I couldn't walk the day after and had to go to the hospital. I told my old college roommate (who I knew from racing) what happened. His reply was "now do you remember why we stopped racing and went to school?" Yes, so I'll be able to buy my own bikes and pay for my own riding now.
Never had it cross my mind to quit. In my 25 years of racing I really haven't spent that much time injured. I'd never missed more than two days work for any injury until last year.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm being unfair to my family but they seem to be okay with the fact that this is my life.
Rung my bell a few times though and wonder sometimes if that why I am a bit forgetful as I get older.
