That’s a short list and we’re just getting started…
Too many good singers for only 20, but it's still a matter of taste. Paul Carrack of Ace and then later Squeeze was known as "the man with the golden voice", in addition to other male vocalists.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Klaus on “Always Somewhere” is fantastic as well
The list would be too long and revised regularly. Seems that opinions would vary greatly on your taste in music except for quite a few obvious picks.
For instance, I play and sing atleast 2 Chris Cornell songs on my acoustic almost every day. I love his sound some don't. A lot of these greats say that they are blow away by Corey Taylor and his voice is the ghost of a lot of these favorites. Guy can sing anything. Lanes voice is unreal, I love Nirvana and some hate it. Vedder awesome. Stevie Nick's, Elton John, most of Woodstock, Elvis etc etc. It would be endless. So hard to build a list and obviously opinions will be wide. I personally like most all music. I can enjoy it and respect it no matter what it is... Entertainment but there is quite a few elites for sure.
I’m gonna go waay out and say Ozzy. Yes, we all know he’s not a talented singer. Guys like Dio and Cornell could mop the flow with Ozzy in a musical gymnastics competition. But Ozzy wasn’t just a voice; he was a sound. And that sound was instrumental in the success of Black Sabbath and the future of heavy metal. And the dude’s still kickin!
Incredible singer/songwriter and is practically anonymous…..
Everyone has sang along to something that he’s sang or wrote and the vast majority of people don’t even know who he is!
Agree that it’s missing Janis. Some others that come to mind are
Matt Bellamy of Muse
Levon Helm
John Fogerty
Faces era Rod Stewart (although his bubblegum pop shit warrants the exclusion)
Ozzy bc are you joking my ass Rick?
Jack Bruce
Greg Allman
Not Bono lol
Layne Staley & Leslie Mann need to be considered
I watched his how did they play that vids he has on a lot of songs. VH fluting with the devil was good. He breaks it all down. And plays the guitar a lot of tech talk of this is unique because it’s played in flat e. Etc. he is off on stuff tho. When he talked slice in chains up like this is the best rock song ever . I knew he was a kook. That band is good but not Great. VH would blow them off the stage easily.
Oh came on man Freddy as 1 he’s like a opera. Any singer like that Rob Halford- sound garden r this type good music but not into the singers opera type. Phil specter said Joey Ramone had a better & more unique voice than all of the Beatles. Alice Cooper is probably the best. Dave’s Lee Roth could b the best too very wide range and strong vocals. Exchange lead singers of bands . Geddy lee in VH, etc. . It will be narrowed down to this 3. Janis has no voice not a fan of opera styles but Pat Benatar blows her off the stage. Classical opera trained too. But I like blonde more. Dreamin is free. Bowie,s voice on fame is good but I can do a deep haunting effect. I hear it a lot from women oh your voice. Just don’t want the life of inclusion that comes with hit singles. People bothering ya 12 yrs after your 3 hit songs. Sounds like hell for a life.
Steve Walsh (Kansas) deserves an honorable mention at the very least. Awesome range.
Jay Buchanan-Rival Sons
Neil Fallon-Clutch
There was a new release on Spotify from the Rival Sons last week called soul which is a live track about 13mins, at approx the 5.15 mark Jay hits and holds a note like you can't believe.
Mea Culpa…
How THE FUCK did I leave out Geoff Tate?!
I actually like sound garden . Sick as hell lungs & head. It seems like people think range is a great voice. I disagree a great voice is a unique voice it doesn’t need range. Richard Butler from Phycadelic furs talk, talk talk album or all of them . I can sing like him too. Mazzy Star she has a unique voice , no range. Then there’s pure singing voices like Patsy Cline. Garbage singer is good, the band created & produced Nervanas 1st album. Then made a lot of money producing that sound for other bands. Then created there own band. Bush lead singer no range but great voice. The clash no range but great. Best haromy band ABba . Sex Pistols great voice. Captain Sensible who else can sing about Captain Kirk & rock yor face off. Old school punk. Almost forgot the sell out Henry Rollins he did get all that anger threw his voice & body.
The era of punk & new wave had the best bands & singers. It opened music up to anyone and all. Women had a Real tough time getting signed b4 that. I cruise threw the channel’s around the country. Women singing choir music is amazing. I entered Wi. Last Fri. 1st song I hear is a little girl singing a Santa funny song . Lyrics setup for a swear word then a pause to use a diff word. A simple piano playing funny. Next song Rush fly by night fits the drive perfectly & Great voice. Triumph another Canadian band with a similar voice. The music in me song is great.
Pit Row
Without Sabbath, we don't have Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Nirvana.
Shout out Stone Temple Pilots. Best band name of all time and Scott could sing anything, same with Layne Staley.
I can't imagine not putting Freddie Mercury at #1. The best singer hands down, and a great front man. Dio comes close for vocal ability.
Yep, love The Scorpions

Cornell could really belt out a tune, I used to place him near the top of such lists 20 years ago. Eddie has a distinct voice too.

Ok, I’ll dive in. In no particular order.
Sebastian Bach
Mickey Thomas
Steve Perry
Lane Staley
Scott Weiland
Paul Rodgers
Eric Carmen
Chester Bennington
Brad Delp/Barry Goudreau
Leo Sayer
That track is on my “20 best tracks” rotation. I get to play my drums to it all the damn time. I wonder…how many people can actually recognize when “Well I don’t mind stealing bread…” v “I don’t mind stealing bread”…as to the who’s who in the lyrical timing …well…do most people know which lines are sang by whom?
This song is a tale of our current dilemma & it gets to me every damn time.
I pray that Chris’s soul has landed in a good place.
Godspeed.
Nice 💪🏻
Queen sucks as a kid in the 70,s I looked at them as purposely releasing hit songs just good enough to get on the radio. As a contracted band to do so. Social Disortion a better band and Much better singer. And still touring the World. All the metal bands listed r crap too. Bad take on opera singers. Profeshenal song writers say. People don’t know what they like until they here it countless times. That’s why the label pumps millions to get songs played repeatedly. Except for Van Halen Warner brothers f d them over. And didn’t support the band & dump millions into getting there music played. Journey,s label did because they where a top 40 band. Just like ac dc , ozzy, nirvana, and the rest of the butt rock sell out bands. Ever read a rock star’s autobiography? The start of the band’s success is the highlight. After that it’s a secluded life with no freedom. Maybe a band like The knack or Off broadway can go to a store & not get bothered. I would only do it for 4 yrs max probably 2 then disappear. Weird business if the band changes there music or image there fans turn on them . They think they own the band . The CLash was the band of the 80,s according to rolling stone mag, 2 great lead singers . A power duet male & female would b big now. The 2 diff voices cover more interest from more people. I wouldn’t mind sharing the mic & the spot light. As long as I hv the brighter light shining on me & I,m tuned a little louder. Haha. Ever play music, there’s a lot of egos, it naturally happens.
Whether or not you like Queen has nothing to do with whether or not Freddie Mercury had outstanding vocal ability. Your dislike of Opera is also irrelevant. Pavarotti was an outstanding singer, whatever you think of his genre. I consider factors like range, tone, vibrato, versatility, and distinctiveness when I evaluate a singer. On these criteria, Mercury is excellent. As far as being a bad take on opera, Monterrat Caballe was impressed enough with Mercury to do a collaboration with him. I suspect she knows something about singing.
I was listening to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath the other night and Ozzy's singing on that album is really, really good. Listen to some of the notes he hits in Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Killing Yourself to live. Impressive - he had outstanding range when he was young.
I didn’t know this was American idol bs. The label put Fred & a guy nobody ever heard of together. Trying to convince people like u that he’s talented. Another 1 bites the dust. Also 1 of the many queen sings that sucks. Me Ness doing mommy little monster when he was 17. Or I was wrong after doing prison time. That’s a song with a gut feel and a million times better voice. Or Joe Strummer, mick Jones , bass player did lead vocals too. Earlier clash blows Queen or any butt rocker band off the stage. And better range Joe,s lower than Fred, Mick is higher. Drummer is in the top 3 . Had his own band yrs after the clash , big band music. Did funk, etc, in a all black sister group, i forget the name b4 the clash. And wrote rock the casba on piano.
Lost my rt ear bud lastnight. Took ovr 3 hrs in find in cold windy weather. Went in the ts twice a cute girl helped. Yeah I like my music . Who wasn’t thrillled when alternative music killed butt metal bands off. Not as good as the 80,s but still great music. I saw Ozzy in 85 he wasn’t that good. He grabbed his nuts ever time 4 high notes. Everyone said he had a electric gizmo on his nads. Haha . Sweet leaf is his best song the rest pretty much suck.
