I was lucky enough to get one before they basically sold out. First emtb and I love it. It’s a great consolation prize when I don’t feel like loading up my dirt bike and driving 2 hours to a track.

I have my bike with me at all times and I drive by my favorite mountain biking place on my way home from work. I get a great workout, cross train on something that actually helps on the dirt bike, and I can ride every day if I want. Wish I had time to ride the dirt bike every day but like you say it is a helluva consolation prize.

This may be a dumb question as I haven't even looked yet...But how are yall hauling these bikes in a trailer or van. I pull an enclosed trailer and use the risk racing lock-n-load setup for my bikes. I've never transported a mtb and need a setup asap for next weekend (assuming the bike will be here)

In my enclosed trailer I load it like a dirt bike with straps on the handlebars, I made a wooden chock out of 2x4s that's removable. With my SUV I use this.

When I haul in the trailer, I generally just tie it down like a dirt bike.

Day to day hauling I keep it in the back of my pickup. I have a BedRug so it lays on it's side on carpet and I have a tonneau cover to protect the bike from prying eyes. Generally, if it's not on the charger in my garage it's in my truck. Ready to rip at any time.

You're getting shit on for this take, but no matter how many times I hear justifications for why, it still doesn't make since to me that this:

Costs $3000 more than this:

Umm we are talking about $2-3k e-bikes in this thread not the $15k versions try to stay on topic

It would be interesting to see the breakdown of costs for each. There's definitely more profit margin on the 15k mountain bikes, but Yamaha pulling out of North America and seeing how much KTM lost on e-bikes shows it's not all rainbows and pots of gold.

They aren’t 2-3k e bikes. They are 5k-7k e-bikes that are being dumped on the market.

He specifically mentioned $2300 for an e bike.

Fair point with regard to the $2k price point. I don’t consider that figure particularly high. This was a budget conscious Ritchey/Fisher line from 40 years ago:

Same as you would a dirt bike but strap the rear tire down because it will bounce around a bit.

You conveniently just happen to pick the most expensive model for your comparison but that’s like comparing a factory bike to basic retail version.

They sell versions of that bike that are far less.

I selected one of the most premium eMTB's and the most premium electric dirt bike. That's not a fair comparison?

Picked up a base model Moro about a month ago. So far, all I’ve done is set sag front and rear, converted to tubeless and put better pedals on it. The base model components are still quality. It’s my first e-bike and I don’t think it will be my last. It’s a blast to ride! My screen says I can go about 23 miles in high mode and close to 50 in standard mode. I don’t think there is a better deal out there for 2k. IMG 3448 2

You do you. I don’t stress out about it but I try and take care of my bikes…motor or not.

No. Does your premium dirt bike offer electronic suspension?

It will never be a fair comparison tho. Too many factors.

Yup. Which is within 10% of a current CRF250R.

Compare the CR250 to a 450 not a 250f. Better yet compare that to a KTM 450.

Point is: Anyone who bought an E-mtb at those prices listed on page 1 should be stoked. They are great bikes for the money and it’s a hell of a deal. Anyone who thinks these modern mountain bikes should cost a dollar is lying to themselves.

Nope. A 1983 cr480 would be the proper match for a crf450r which, like the 250, is ballpark-to-close price-wise to the 80s after you crunch the numbers (and in favor of modern day if you consider the existence of the current CRF450RS).

Obviously, there's an affordability hole where the 125 was, but we've all been complaining about that for decades, and that is none of what you've discussed.

For those wondering about the cost of bicycles, remember that nothing costs an "absolute" dollar amount. You can buy a top-line Yeti pedal bike for over $10K, because people are willing to pay it - no matter what the reasoning behind it. If you were Yeti, would you charge less (and make less profit,) just because it "seems" expensive? Hell no! On the reverse side of that same token, you can get a 2024 RM-Z450 for what? $5,999? It's because the market is only willing to pay about that amount for a Suzuki. It's all about perception.

Also, remember that MX motorcycles don't come in 4 frame sizes and 3-10 levels of componentry.

I'm really considering a Yamaha e-bike. The only thing keeping me away is that I doubt I'll ever ride an "analog" MTB again after I do!

I haven’t made the plunge yet either but it’s definitely happening soon.

I've been on the phone this morning looking for a base moro in a medium.  If anyone happens to know where one is that ships.I would appreciate it.
