Hey man I just ordered the #6 slide and nozi with a 178/180 main and 45/48/50 Pilot. I am at 8,000ft would you say go to clip #2 or #1 or something else?

And I have an apex sx/xc dome if that would affect what you would say.

At 8000’ and using that NOZI needle, you’re going to be quite a bit leaner than when using a single needle. I would start out with the needle in clip #3, along with a 45 pilot, and it may very well need to be leaner. The main is going to be pretty lean as well. I would start off at 175, but again, it may need to be leaner.
FWW, I would have use a CCM needle, 50,178 combo , and went from there.

Thank you. I’ll shop around for a ccm needle.

Defo throw the NOZI in the bin. That needle ran all the stock KTM's rich in the first .25 throttle. An old Sudco DDK filled in the bottom with bark on my 200. Pulled with tractor factor as well.

GO leaner for summer by 1 size

For which temp and elevation is this jetting?

Sorry Rat for the late reply

Elevation is basically sea level in Australia.

Temp ranges from 45degF - 95degF. Throw in a bit of humidity.

I varied 1 size leaner (pilot & main) for summer and maybe went 1 size richer (pilot & main) for colder days.

The N3CG Needle is from the 250. Bike was always crisp and never suffered any bogging.

I just got everything in. 175 main 45 pilot, nozi clip 3, and a 6 slide might be a 6.5 I'm not sure lol. i just rode it up and down the neighborhood real quick and it feels like it revs up really quick on the stand. I'm not sure if it because everything is too lean or I have the wrong slide. after 5 mins of run time the plug looks pretty good black but not wet and its starting to get brown I think. but help would be appreciated.

The slide will have the number on the bottom, make sure it is a #6 and not 6.5. Those settings Digger provided likely will not work with a 6.5

it says 65 not 6.5. but the bottom end seemed to work fine.

Starting diameter of popular needles listed below. Sharing this info because I think this is a large part of the problem most are experiencing with the new model YZ’s. Most of the popular jetting specs try to run a very small pilot jet to mask the root cause which is an overly rich starting diameter on the needle.

JD Blue .1055”

NYDE .1055”

NYCF .1060”

JD Red .1065”

NYCH .1065”

N3EW .1070”

Y3 .1080”

Y4 .1085”

Looking at this data I can see why the Y4 needle would use the larger pilot jet when compared to the Y3.

In my experience with these bikes, I would always try to use the largest starting diameter needle you could find and use a bigger pilot jet to avoid the lean bog condition that many experience (when using the stock #6.5 or #7 slide).

I tried sourcing the #6 slide and CCL needle that Digger recommends but that proved to be a tough task.

Yamaha's YZ125 OEM jetting in the Keihin, is clearly an end around the lean slide. Once you install the richer slide, it really opens up your jetting options. FWW, I didn't like the OEM NYxx or the N3xx, both dual taper, series needles, when using the stock slide, over a wide range of temps. If you got just a little bit under the temp range on those needles, with the stock slide, that lowend bog came back. If I owned one, I would purchase a 5.5 slide, under the KTM part#, and I would cut it to 5.75 and start with and H or W starting diameter needle, dual or triple taper needle. The std 5.5 slide work very good as well, and I wouldn't be afraid to use a single taper CCM needle with it either, which is still available, I believe. This will give you a bunch more options, needle wise, instead of relying on one needle to work year round.

You can't base all your evaluations on the starting diameter and pilot size correlation. You have to take into account the needles tapers. single,     dual, or triple.

I can do the conversions, but it just looks odd to me seeing the starting diameters in inches.  2.725mm = an H starting diameter, 2.735=  W. The CCL single taper needle, that I recommend has a starting diameter of 2.705.

Digger, I purchased a 5.5 slide, but cannot find a CCL needle anywhere or any of the needles you listed. Is there any other options? I’m at 50ft above sea level and I’m running a 55 pilot, the air screw is about .75 out  and a 172 main but I only have the jd red and blue needle and the stock NYEF needle. The jd red needle in the 4th clip seemed to help the low end bog a bit but it’s still there. Haven’t put in the 5.5 slide yet because I can’t find a needle to use.

On rockeymountain atv I found the nozi under ktm125 oem parts. I can’t remember what year though. Also where did you find the 5.5 slide?

I’ll have to look for the nozi needle again but I found the slide on eBay. Here’s the link

Winter arrived?

That's my best guess until you give us a lot more info.  How many hours?  Fresh top end?   Did anything change?  Did you switch fuel, oil, and/or ratio?

That is an obvious severe lean/overheat/detonation example there.   What fuel, oil, and ratio were you using?  What was the temperature when riding?  Do you have a good coat of oil on the air filter?  Was the bike being ridden on an MX track or wide open on the streets?

Could be a bad air leak somewhere.  Possible one of the crank seals was not installed correctly at the factory or the reed block or cylinder base gasket are leaking.

If only 3 hrs, I'd take it back to the dealer.

YZ125”X” jetting update below:

Since racing season is over, I decided to do more testing with my 2024 YZ125X and see if I could improve on the JD Jetting spec. Long story short, thanks to a lot of help from Digger, I arrived at a jetting spec that is no doubt better than the JD Jetting and anything else I have tried. That jetting spec is a custom 5.65 slide, N3CW (yz250 needle) in 3rd clip, 185 main, 55 pilot, AS 1.5 out. This jetting spec in 60 to 80 degree weather at sea level works amazing. If you are not happy with your current YZ125X jetting spec, this could be something you want to try and pursue. But be warned, going down this road will likely lead to alot of frustration, a month of testing, and a pile of needles that you will likely never use. In the end, it was worth it for me.

More info below:

I tried many different types of needles including CCL, CCM, CCN, CEN, DCN, N3EW, N3CW, and a few others. At one point I actually purchased a # 7 slide from the YZ125 and tried getting tye GYTR Y3 needle to work like it did in my YZ125. Throughout this month of testing I found many different combinations that worked really really good. But most always had some sort of drawback to them. It was hard to get the perfect combination.

I have tested the above jetting spec back to back with the JD Jetting spec (with 6.5 slide) and I can say without a doubt the 5.65 slide and N3CW needle work better.

Hopefully this helps someone get closer to that perfectly tuned YZ125X.

YZ125X Jetting spec below:

185 Main

55 Pilot

5.65 slide (custom made from a 5.0 slide)

N3CW needle in 3rd clip

AS 1.25 to 1.5 out

Temps - 50 to 80

Elevation - Sea Level

Fuel - Avgas mixed 50/50 with 93 pump

Premix - Bel Ray H1R at 32/1

Intermediate level MX riding

Last thing I wanted to mention is that the Digger spec, the above spec, JD Spec, etc, will likely not be a plug and play that will work for your bike and your riding conditions. These specs will get you close, but you will most likely need to work through some tuning for your specific area of the country and riding style.

The bike is super responsive at any throttle position. Best running 125 I have ever tried. Don’t forget to get the stationary cable holder with the CCL needle.

Did you happen to try the N3CW with another slide? Currently running the CCL with a #6 slide and wondering if it is worth testing.

I only tried the N3CW needle with the 5.65 slide. This is what Digger recommended to me. If your bike runs great with the CCL needle, I would not experiment with the N3CW.

I just ordered the #6 slide to test with the CCL needle. I will do back to back testing with the 5.65 slide and N3CW needle. I’ll post up my thoughts once I get some testing done.

I'm curious how the 6.0 slide and CCL needle works. I just dropped that into my bike since I'm currently greasing all the bearings. I wont be riding again till spring though. Spent all year on the JD jetting kit and it worked good 50-90 degrees. Certainly could be better in some areas.

It's very good. I had this setup with the CCL in the #4 clip position, a 55 pilot and 182 main in the fall.

Do you think CCL needle and 6.0 slide will work between 30-75F sea level?

Edit: Or maybe 5.5 slide with CCM needle would be better intermediate to start with?

I was able to do back to back to back to back testing today with the (#5.65 slide N3CW-3) and the (#6 slide CCL-3). In my opinion, the 5.65 slide and the N3CW-3 work a little better for overall performance. The engine runs slightly cleaner and more efficient with no gaps in the power. They are VERY CLOSE in performance, and this really is splitting hairs. I did not change the pilot or main with this test, just the needles and slides.

After a ton of testing and note taking, I have finally arrived at a setting that makes this bike (2024 YZ125X) run like it should have straight off the showroom floor. THANK YOU DIGGER for leading us down a good path with this bike!

Updated setting posted below for the YZ125X…

185 Main
55 Pilot
5.65 slide (custom made from a 5.0 slide)
N3CW needle in 3rd clip
AS 1.25 to 1.5 out
Temps - 50 to 80 degrees
Elevation - Sea Level
Fuel - Avgas mixed 50/50 with 93 pump
Premix - Bel Ray H1R at 32/1
Intermediate level MX
