Matthes says MXoN is better when it's in Europe?

Love Steve and his show, but last night he claimed that the MXoN is way better when it's at a Euro venue, citing things like lepricons running around, crazy people running doing stupid things like drinking too much, people storming the track, etc.   Just the overall party atmosphere there, it sounds like he think's that makes for a better event?

But when this type of thing is done in the US, he'll do a Race Tech rant and say it's stupid.  When people stormed the track in Daytona, he hated it, when people run around blowing air horns, or the winners revving the bikes up until they explode, guys bringing their dogs on the podium (LOL) he hates it.

But if it's done overseas in Europe, it's suddenly the cool thing to do and makes the Euro events better ????

PS - and this is all before I knew about the deaths at this years event, which were probably due to humans being stupid.

I don’t read in to it that he or any of the other americans that have said the same thing as him before like those things. It’s the overall atmosphere of the race.

Roczen also said that in US it just feels like another national, not a Des Nations.

Steve with an incredibly bad and controversial take, based on a tiny nugget of common sense? No way...

I understand for the US guys going over there probably has a certain level of pageantry to it, just like it's probably similar for the "Euro" guys coming over here for the event.

As for Steve's rants, it's hard to tell when he's being genuine and when he's just trying way too hard to be the cool contrarian guy. Did he mention Tim Ferry?

That being said his rant about people not locking porta potties was hilarious.

Well I have no take on what matthes said but Eli mentioned yesterday on Pulp that Matterley Basin is the best track he's ever ridden.

Make of that what you want

Yes that interview with ET3 was a really good one, and yep Eli seemed to really like that track quite a bit.   And what a couple rides by that guy! I was yelling at my TV after that holeshot in moto 3.

I think I agree, I seem to have more interest when it's in Europe.

Eli has a lot of fans.  They aren't vocal and social media controversial...just like him...but they come from every nation.  For whatever reasons...the track, the fans, the whole ball of wax, just ticked his boxes and his results showed that.  Damn proud of him.

I've thought this for a long time, so I don't agree with Matthes, but I think MXoN is better when it's in Europe.  I've been to 3 over here, and none overseas, hope too someday.

I'm basing my opinion on what I've watched of the racing, the comradery between racers, and the crowd in general.

What's his opinion matter, it's just an opinion. Good for him for knowing his own preferences, I don't think he is insisting anybody agree with him.

Main to take away from this is don’t listen to anything Matthes has to say. He’s just a man, with flawed opinions

What is your opinion on the MXDN events you have been to in Europe? How was the atmosphere?

Never been, so I don't have an opinion.  My OP was more a commentary on how Steve seems to appreciate the crazy fans and overall craziness of the events in Europe, but when similar things happen at the races here in the US (people running on the track, acting stupid, blowing air horns and running chain saws, blowing up the winning bike, etc)   he rants against that type of behavior like an old man yelling at clouds.

And yes I did appreciate Marx putting up that Steve Hates America graphic on the screen when he was saying all this stuff LOL, and I do realize it's part of his shtick.

Flawed opinions? Unless it aligned with your opinions then it's not flawed , is that how it works?

Let's see...

Steve gets to got to England and see the MXON...in Europe...amongst the European fan base...which is truly an amazing site to see...and he says it's better than when it's in our own back-yard...well, at least in his opinion...and that's controversial?

Uh, no.

Signed,

A guy that Steve doesn't always have nice things to say about nor nice names to call me 🤣

(Also, not controversial. It's just his opinion...and, let's remember, the poor guy got chased out of Canada! So, go easy on him)

I have never been to a US DesNations but a couple in europe along with multiple GP’s in different countrys.

And im going on a limb here and guessing that in the US DN’s it’s most American and  Canadian fans. I know people that went to RedBud from Sweden but in the big picture i would guess that it’s most american fans with american flags making it look like a regular national.

While in europe it becomes a melting pot of fans from more countries that create another atmosphere with different flags around the track for example.

I don’t know how the attendence numbers look at the american held races neither. If it’s less, the same or more than the european rounds.

but both RV, RC, Roczen, Webb, Tomac and plenty of media guys like Weege, Steve and JT have said that it’s a whole different thing when it’s held in europe, so it has to be something to it.

I've only been to one MXdN in Italy in 09. It was so freaking crowded that I had to climb a tree on the edge of the property and pretty much watched the whole race from there. There were like 10 other people on that tree, and more people on other trees. I remember I was jealous of a guy who parked his ass on the very top branch and had a way better view than me. He never left that spot. Had it been in the States, security would have yanked us down for liability reasons. USA won that year. Jake was wearing jeans on the podium. It was awesome!

The end.

I am fortunate to say I have been to MXdNs on both continents, (Ernee and Red Bud) both were absolutely amazing experiences, but he is right, the atmosphere was better in France.

It’s ok, he isn’t saying some great statement about the countries as a whole. Just an event.

You can untangle the Panties, it’s just a man’s opinion, he isn’t burning a flag, relax.

Hitting one of the euro ones is definitely on my bucket list, more so than a USA one.

I know he has some controversial takes but even the US guys say it’s got more about it in Europe , I don’t think it’s a dig at any fans just a completely different atmosphere , as someone said above the American ones are probably 90 percent American fans which takes away from it , the amount of different coloured smoke bombs / flags , chainsaws etc at euro nations is what makes the atmosphere

You guys can even see the obvious. If it’s held in Europe, ppl can travel to the even from a dozen countries for under $200. They bring their energy and culture.

When in the US, it’s mainly US folks and much less ppl travel here from Europe.

He's 100% correct, I've had multiple friends go to multiple MXON and they've all told me the same thing, "if you're going to go to one, go to a European one". I know someone on the Australian MXON committee who's gone to every MXON for the last 30+ years who will happily tell you the same.

I'm generalising here, but unfortunately a lot of Americans are narrow minded and still believe that everything American is better, just because it's American, and 9/10 it's not.

I know I'm going to get crucified for that comment but........facts.

That’s a pretty widely held opinion. In fact, I don’t know if I’ve ever heard some say that MXoN’s are better when they’re in the USA.

For me personally, Unadilla would be the exception if they had one there.
