I didn't read that whole essay, but I don't agree. The cameras kept shaking for some reason. They rarely were on a good battle. The drone was poorly piloted. Personally I love as much drone as possible, especially on a track where line selection is so crucial. The drone helps yo see those different choices and the immediate effect and differences.

No on the ground reporting to get stories that are happening behind the scenes. The best that had was a guy running around the pits live asking team members to go and get the riders. Seemed unprofessional.  It made me appreciate the NBC broadcast.

Hey Bondo, how's it going?

I’ve been a paying subscriber every since Villo went over and it’s worth every damn penny IMO!! The whole setup is night and day difference compared to what we have!! They actually cover the race and the actual battles going on that we always seem to miss in our series weekly!!  Paul is the best in the business and does it alone most of the time!! I called into the pulp show one nite and asked them why our coverage missed soo much of the racing and weegie didnt want to hear it!! He ,asked me how they could not miss any key parts of race and I told him simply Just go watch a round one weekend!!

Yep Malin is the GOAT of commentators and RC is the WOAT.

No need for story time when there's action going on track.

He has three jobs:

1. Dumb down the broadcast as much as possible.
2. Cram in as much irrelevant filler as possible.
3. Miss as many important moments of the race as possible.

Bondo is a high achiever in his role.

I just finished watching the MXoN Qualifying Races and holy cow what a difference between this broadcast and the pathetic sh@tshow the US SMX broadcasts have become.

Some notes:

The MXoN broadcast seems to use the necessary 7 or 8 cameras on the ground that actually follow the race fully around the track.  Beautiful FULL SCREEN coverage of the riders, properly framed, railing turns, hitting jumps, working the ruts, showing body positioning, suspension action, etc., and most importantly, showing the RACING!!

They (thankfully) have very minimal use of their split-screen, and almost zero useless Inserts of a guy in the pits getting ready for the next race, or on a stationary bike, or someone giving yet another pointless interview with the usual "we found something this week" meaningless drivel.

No overuse of drone shots!  And when they do occasionally use a drone shot, it’s for a few corners and they're not from the effing Goodyear blimp!!

The commentators, (Malin and JT), focus on the RACING! (zero pointless babbling)!

All of the above works to elevate the race as the most important thing on the screen! (should be no-d'uh, right?).  You actually watch and follow the racing with no “clutter”.  This is something the US broadcasts have completely forgotten.  It was a pleasure to watch and much more relaxing, (instead of me constantly cursing at my TV and wanting to throw my remote through a friggin’ wall).

So, what do we now get in the US?

A clown-show broadcast produced by Captain Blondo Dipshit that has maybe 2 or 3 cameras on the ground, showing the same shot of the riders going by the mechanics area, and one or two corners in the back, with the other 90% of the race covered by crappy, low-rez, mostly long-distance drone shots from orbit.

Overused ridiculous split-screen views of two "ant shows" of indiscernible rider's, lazily left on for lap after lap!!, (sometimes with both views showing the same goddam section of the track!!).  We've seen this pathetic split-screen laziness used for up to 10 minutes of a 20-minute race!!!  Way to go A-hole!

Replays of the start, from multiple angles, in agonizing, time-consuming, slow-mo, one lap into the race!!  All while Timing and Scoring is showing that passes are being made!  Passes that of course we don't get to see!!!, (no replays, or even mentioned later by the crew!).  Passing is getting more and more rare in “Start-Cross”, and you can’t even be bothered to show the measly few we get?  Unbelievable!

Here’s a good one,... Let’s interrupt AN ACTUAL RACE, to see a crash (in multiple angles) from a race from two weeks ago!!  Or show a guy riding by himself for TWO EFFING LAPs, while again, we [the viewers] can see riders closing in on one another through Timing and Scoring!  Lame!!

And lastly, one of my personal favorites, we finally have an awesome on-screen 3-way battle going, and it immediately gets broken into a split-screen with a guy riding by himself in 9th place in the top screen, and the 3-way battle shrunk down below.  What’s the thinking here blunder-boy?  Diminish the action and piss off the viewers?  Well congratulations douchebag!  Mission accomplished!

For the love of god, someone please retire this guy and make the needed changes.  It should not be that hard!

Yeah! What he said! How about Monster hire the motogp girls while we're at it. Beautiful and classy, take her home to meet mom. Not the Monster one night stands, get away from my son! Bri577 you hit the nail on the head !👍

hey guys i know we just started the race and watched everyone do a few laps, but it looks like top 3 are about to battle for the lead so lets cut to the yamaha track map and miss every pass! 🤦🏽

you would think that after YEARS of doing this bondo would have hashed out any and all issues. its almost like he goes into every weekend looking for new ways to fuck up the broadcast. either he doesnt care about sucking at his job, or he still after all of these years has no idea wtf he is doing. i truly cant tell

I’m glad I’m not the only one who wants to throw the remote at the wall sometimes.

Dvr and remote volume down!

OP is 100% right. Coverage of racing in the US is shit, full on amateur hour. I’ve been a Moto guy since I was peeing the bed and still the race broadcasts we get can barely hold my attention for 10 minutes.

But is this not the typical thing for american tv? Try to create as much excitement as possible. ”Made up” monster truck voices, create a story around everything etc.

Often when i as a non-american watch american tv shows on discovery or what ever it’s always a over-dramatic production.

It can be a survival show and the thing will always be like: ”if they don’t breath some air now, there is a possibility that they will die”.. just for the drama of it.

It doesn’t change the fact that the program or show itself SUCKS. I am not one to push for the removal of someone normally. But my god, it is truly atrocious. Your there to watch a race and the idiot does more to not watch the action than anything else. It is remarkable. He may be well liked by his piers. The quality of the product is absolute trash

Yep this is what you get when you are the ‘marketing states of America’. Everything is an ad and opportunity to sell something.

Mxgp is light years better for actual fans of racing to watch the broadcast.

why do we also need 5-6 commentators all talking 30 seconds each on US SMX, turns into a Talk Show with a race in the background. 2 in the booth, 1 on the floor is enough.

Like Mav said on another thread, MXGP-TV presents it as a sport, where AMA/SX/SMX is presented as a show.

Love the mxgp broadcasts. Don’t have to listen to weege fake laugh any time a pro says anything and Malin doesn’t talk to the viewer like it’s our first time ever seeing a dirt bike

Yes and no…. Content? Definitely better.  Technical execution?  Not as good, too many stream drops for me.  Last year I was disconnected for the entire first moto and today I lost stream for 5 minutes of moto 1.

Solid ISP and very modern PC…. Saw a lot of posts about stream lost.

My favorites are announcers screaming when someone is about to be passed or got passed, a rider made a small mistake and got slightly out of control.  Also love the infamous “inside/outside” quip that Stew has now picked up on from RC.  I am now rewatching Ironman from this year and I’ve got it muted just so I can watch it without throwing a remote. 🤦🏼‍♂️

The ”inside/outside” qoute RC got from the great Art Eckman!!

I think JT sleeps with a Jett poster taped to the ceiling above him...      The guy looks like he spends more time in front of a mirror than super-models.

SX is the worst of the broadcasts....the whole show has become an unwatchable amateur night circus.      MX is only better due to the hosts....still a clown show production.

What I haven’t seen anyone mention yet, but I think is worth pointing out: I really like how the MXGP broadcast shows all the riders on the gates before race time. They take their time to show each top rider, how focused they are, and how they prepare at the gate, etc. (it has been like that forever) On the US broadcast, there’s hardly any of that. You might get a few shots here and there, but often they switch to the start gate just SECONDS before the actual start. I dunno I think it’s much more immersive when you can see everyone before the gate drops.

Malin does have one weakness in his announcing. He rarely mentions the riders number. I don't watch MXGP that often, but when I do it takes a while to figure out who he is talking about.

Bro.  Agree 100%.  Well said. The only thing you missed was mentioning how far they zoom into the racer in the US.  There could be 1/2 a wheel length between guys and they are so zoomed in you can’t even tell someone is behind.

One thing I def dont like is the numbers scrolling across the bottom on gp tv. They constantly get blocked by things and if you are looking for what position a rider is in a takes a long time until it goes by. The way ama uses large chunks showing the top 10 then 11-20 below, then 20-30 below etc. makes it really quick to find out whos where as the action is going.
