Outside of Japan, Thailand has most of the fastest riders in Asia.
More than a handful would be on the cusp of making an AMA pro national and some have done GPs.
The issue is not the local riders (at most fly aways), the issue is that it doesn’t make any sense financially for the mid level teams to go.
Same for some of the fastest in the region (some Thai riders were invited to the China GP).
And they are not hobbyists. They are professional racers, some with factory support.
I didnt mean to throw shade on Thai riders specifically. That one just stuck in my mind as one of the earlier fly away races where the gate was really light and they had to bring in some slower guys to fill up the gate. you dont have to take it personal but if you get lapped 3 times without crashing then you should not be on the same track. Wether youre doing it full time or as a hobby doesnt matter.
Great that things went alright in the operating room. What a scary idea to have a surgery of such a major and risky type in such a foreign place. I remember, earlier in the year someone being hurt at the round in South America and it didn't go so well.
Everything you say is right, but it weren't the local riders who caused Everts's crash. It's just a racing incident between two of the top tier riders.

I have been confused reading all of the comments in this thread about the slow locals. In Everts' crash, didn't he go down when lines collided between him and Coenen?
Dont clown on Yang Pu….dudes for real and coming to the states very soon😂
You're trying to say a rider being lapped SEVEN times in a race isn't a hazard?
Why would he drop back to a mere national series when he's competed against the world's best?
Glen Helen has this kind of parity every Thursday on the main track 😆😆😆😆
Is it a career ending injury or will he be possibly lining up next year? Glad to hear that he’s ok, hate hearing about riders losing feeling or movement, scary scary stuff.
When does PU race?
If their hold their line probably safer than racing Vince…

correct. He and Coenen came together in a right turn and Evert went down hard.
but some other MX2 regulars got tangled with the locals and the Kiwi while being lapped.
Very scary! That crash actually looks scarily similar to jessy nelsons crash that paralyzed him. Motocross riders have some absolutely massive get offs, but it seems to be when you go over the bars while trapped on the bike where the bike pile drives you helmet first into the ground where the worst outcomes come from, even at low speeds. Thank god hes ok, he has a very bright future ahead of him and I dont want to see any mx rider ever have that type of injury ever again. Your entire life can change so fast, thank god it was not worse! Scary stuff!!
Not trying to be a downer here,, but that injury is crazy and invasive to the body...we don't know how he will react over time to trauma! Young, fit, strong phy and mentally, he can do it!
Sending healing vibes to Liam!
That crash freaked me out and I was pretty fucken worried! Seeing him lying on the track like that was frightening but that's such good news..
I will say it's sometimes good to not rush in and move stuff as in my accident I had a shard of bone go into the artery of my neck and when they removed it in my operation I lost 70% of my blood in literal seconds so I was extremely lucky the first people to me kept me extremely still or I could've bled out right there on the track..
Pit Row
No.
If only there was a piece of protective equipment that would help with neck injuries... Oh well
I was hoping no one would go there, but it makes you wonder.
He's returning home today.
Very sad news.
The Everts are royalty in our sport.
I wish Liam a speedy recovery
