Anyone grab an interview and or know the deets regarding 2nd moto? Did the heat get him, or maybe the scoop proved a dangerous choice second moto with all that shiny stuff? I thought for sure he would latch on to Jett and blow past the likes of Cooper Webb and or get after Hunter.

Loved seeing him do his thang out there!!!!!

I took it as a dude in his 30’s on a sketchy track with a tire that may have not been the best choice and he rode safe. I think he’s at the point in his career that if he feels like he can win he will push it, if not he’s smart enough to not let a track like that bite him. Plus, he had a bad start.

I disagree with the crowd that says he had an “off ride” typically of his past weird races. Just my two cents

I heard he did not use the paddle in moto 2.  Maybe he needs that extra traction to unleash beast mode?

Probably combination of heat, stuck behind a few guys on a track that’s hard to pass on, sketchy traction and setup.

I think the track was just super hard to pass on.  It wasn't one lined, but had one really fast line.  When he got a bad start and couldn't make passes, he just said "ef it" and got through the moto uninjured.  I think he knows, its a 3 rider battle going into Vegas and he's not 1 of the 3.  Dirt in Vegas typically sucks (like it does here in AZ, similar to what was in TX this last weekend).  Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Tomac fan and love having him out there and seeing beast mode.  But going into next weekend, I don't have him in my top 3 fantasy picks.

I thought I read somewhere that he did. All the responses make sense though. Hope he stays Healthy and gives all the youngins a run his last year in 25! #oldguysrule

Fifth in his 4th moto back from injury and a long layoff with that field of riders. Difficult bony track as well, 100 degree heat. I'd say he rode pretty well. The biggest traction problem was obviosly with Dylan. That was scary.

Lewis Phillips said he did run the scoop in moto2

He was on the paddle for the second moto. He was getting crazy wheel spin on the entry to the rhythm section.

Race Pace is intense going to take bit of time to get back up to conditioning.

My bad.  I thought Matthes said he didn't in his review.

Maybe with the paddle and the fact it was a slippery, hard track, Eli decided pushing to get by Webb wasn't going to change his overall for the day. Also, he is far enough back that the million is out of reach. Smart mature race building for next season

I think once Jett dropped him and got past Cooper, he might've been told by his mechanic that he'd have to go way up to get enough points to improve his final standing. Passing Coop definitely wouldn't have made a difference. as others have said, at this point he's racing for 4th in SMX and he is likely being strategic in that regard.

If Eli could have won the second moto, it would have been a 4-rider battle going into Vegas.

But, yeah, after the second lap and he was in 8th place and already down 5+ seconds on a track that was tough to pass, he probably figured he didn't have a chance any more.

No doubt If he starts up front, its game on. I just think by the time he got to Webb, that ship had sailed, and he didn't have a realistic gain by pushing further. Take your points and worry about next weekend.
