It may take more than $20.00 worth of bandwidth if the whole season is like today.

It's called the internet. You know, news and results and stuff. People logging on to see your content.

Not a valid excuse. This isn't their first time.
Not blaming you.

I think 'The Rock' is behind it all. He has been campaigning to get rid of sound in motocross for some time now. He just may have succeded!

It's weird .... that year after year the same guy is able to launch these DOS attacks and destroy the webcasts.

Well I don't know about any of that.

I agree it sucks but not sure what can be done at this point. You hire a contractor to do something you don't expect it to be what it is.

A real DOS attack would have shut down all service, unless the video is coming from a different location. Highly unlikely, but I don't know what their configuration is like.

It is the exact same issues time after time.

10 - 15 years from now we'll all look back and laugh at what a hokey system the internet was. Same way as we look back on hand cranked 'phones, black & white tv's, 8 tracks, cassette decks, VHS, Fax machines etc, etc.

The internet is a basic piece of shite that needs many years of work to get it to run the way it should.

Live wire could avoid issues simply by putting the servers in different locations

Does not matter the reason - they screwed up. Same as last year if you remember. The true MX fans will continue to watch but the average joe will not come back if this issues continue. Which means less money for the sport.

Isnt there to be audio only for the second motos - where is that.
Even live wire is not working.

DC - poor performance.

Such a joke to say that. You can watch high school football, basketball, baseball, soccer, etc and get better coverage.

I remember when all of Motodrive was following Live wire, and most people had dial up then.

And the Live webcasts, hell I had a 1.5 MB DSL line then back in 2002 It worked better then than now.

I believe the configuration consists of a hamster on a wire wheel.

The only thing I got out of trying to keep up with this sport today was confirmation I'm devolving into a grumpy, bitter old bastard.

Thanks, Alli/MX Sports/AMA/DMG/Lucas Oil....who ever.

1 guy refreshing the page a couple of times isnt a DoS attack. the hamster wheel definitely broke cuz the people running MX are technologically illiterate.

Despite the problems I enjoyed it, watching live motocross here in England chatting to friends on facebook simultaneously.
Yes there were first night problems, will DC and MX Sports get it sorted, you bet they will.
As RupertX said it was like 1940, our parents all huddled around radios, listening to far more important world developments.

The first thing the IT guys in the NOC will blame unexplained overloading on is an external "DOS" attack.

Not saying they didn't have a DOS or DDOS today. Just saying that they are under the gun right now and they know that this story sounds credible and is really hard for someone, even an 'expert', to disprove. In my experience it is far more likely an unintended consequence (aka bug) in fresh software released for this season bit em. Seen it happen. Many times. Even caught one vendor red-handed trying to float the DOS story. Turns out it was a little bug in my own software that brought their NOC down! A bug that they should have had safeguards against. The bug was my bad, but I knew right then they didn't know their asses from a hole in the ground.

And Wood is right. They should multi-home the servers no matter what the cause. Cheap and effective way to avoid bottlenecks.
