Is there a reason Budds Creek can’t fix their start?

I know they changed it once or twice over the years, but can they get a professional to come in and rework the start? Every year there is an incident at this track on the start, you would think the teams and promoting body would say something 🤷‍♂️

I thought they said on the broadcast that it deliberately setup that way like MXGP to give the fast qualifiers a preferential gate on the inside.
And of course it could still be better and reduce the first turn mayhem.

Track absolutely sucks for racing, second only to Pala. I said it.

Rode amateur practice Friday. You’re not wrong with this take. So much space to work with but so many narrow one line follow the leader sections.

Pretty bad when throughout all four motos, James kept saying over and over that there was only one section where you could pass.

And even there, it wasn't happening.

Deegan's second moto was proof of that.

As an overseas spectator it's the only US race (including supercross) I don't bother staying up for/watching live. I don't understand why it's so popular

Run the track the opposite way would fix the start.

Then Chase's first moto charge to 2nd from a mid-pack start was impressive. Not sure I agree that Deegan's 2nd moto proved anything. That was after he had clinched the title.

Run the track backwards, make more pronounced inside and outside lines with small berms on the inside lines in a few corners, push those tight corners at the top of the hills back some more so they can move around once they crest the hills

I’ve always said Southwick and Budds should be ran opposite directions every other year like they used to

They could easily tie the start in at the bottom of the hill after the second tunnel (past pitside/pro finish line table), just below pro podium.  It would be more high speed but way safer, more room and much more fair.

They gotta dig out the pond and add about 4 feet of dirt to some of these sections. Half the turns on that track have ditch walls so you lose a few feet of actual riding space on each side: the other half of the turns are as hardpack as the watertruck lanes.

Face it, Hunter and Chase are on another level.

And Chase, when on his charge, lets nothing deny him from passing, and moving forward.

Deegen was working his ass off trying to get around.

Its a start with 40 riders all charging for the same small piece of dirt.

The start is long and fast hitting top gear before hard breaking for the Flat 1st turn. People bobble and that creates a snow ball effect. It is what it is.

I personally liked the old steep up hill U turn 1st turn the most. It ate up horsepower and was Slow going through the first U turn.

Oh and the track is wide as shit! You dont like the line choose another they are everywhere nothing is 1 lined. Even off camber turns are at least 2 or 3 lines.

It was purposely made to NOT be   fair. And give the inside gate an advantage so that qualifying would mean something.

When they had the MXON in 07, it was one of the changes that Youthstream required.

They got rid of the corner one of my favorite photos of Kevin Windham was taken in. AN off camber that his bars were dragging in. That and the scrub photos on Henry hill were what made me want to go there. I got to see the track a few times before they changed the start. I always thought they would change it back after the MXON. But so far its the same.

In person its a great place to watch. Better than some other Nationals I've been to.

For the same reason Lawrence wasn't penalized for accelerating off the track when Cooper almost landed on him - the sport is poorly managed.

Only because Doug Henry launched into outer space.

The reason it is so popular, IMO, is because of the schooling Villopoto gave the Euro’s back in the day. After that , the track had a huge upswing in popularity.

Starts not that long, in fact its short compared to most n the region.  Birchs Creek is long 👍

Undrstand it was made to reward qualifying time for MXGP race, bit every local race is the same as the pro race this weekend, bad pile ups and often injured riders.  It could easily be made more fair and safer by straigntening it out after pitside.

put the start back up top of the hill. reverse the track yearly like back in the day.

Or chop the first turn on the start earlier so its a wider U turn. Make the start straight 20 feet shorter and the whole turn wider. Pretty narrow apex right now. Give the middle and outside guys room to keep some momentum without worrying about being torpedoed from the first 8 inside gates.

Then, now, changes, no changes, Budds rules and is a great track.
