I recently purchased a 2024 yz450f. Bike takes quite a bit of cranking to fire up when cold and after sitting. Once the bike is warm it seems fine or if i start it the next day it is fine. It seems like when sitting for a few days the next time I go to start it takes awhile to fire up and then seems fine. Only has 1.5 hours.

Is anyone else experience this with their 24?

I tried to swap to my smalll case ag801 antigravity batter but it doesn't seem to fit with the new seat. Has anyone figured out how to get it to fit without hitting the sides of the seat?

My 23 had the same problem! Everyone said it’s the on /off switch on handlebars after washing.

Has it been like this since you got it? Is it slow cranking that made you try to switch batteries? It could possible be the fuel pump has gone out. I would contact the dealer you bought it from. At 1.5 hours, there should be some goodwill involve for them to take a look at it. Even if you have to give them an hour of labor is better than firing the parts cannon at it.

It did it since new. Started it before we left the dealership and it took a bit to fire up. It was noted down. Ended up talking to the dealer today and bringing it back for them to check it over. I tried a different battery being that I have heard Yamaha stock batteries usually aren’t that good. Only problem is a can’t fit the antigravity battery in without the sides of the seat hitting the battery. It’s an ag801 small case.

Can you connect the terminals without putting the battery all the way in?

Yeah have it connected right now, it fires right up. It did that with the own battery to after running. Would have to let it sit again and see if it still struggles to start.

Did you figure out the issue? I’m currently having the same issue. Takes awhile to start. But once it fires I have no issues restarting. Just did a top mend and everything was within spec.

I have the same bike and issue. It seems that its a priming issue (for me at least). If my bike sits for a bit it will also take awhile of cranking to turn over. I have recently started opening up the throttle a full turn then letting close after pressing the start button once, and that has helped.

If it doesn’t start up after turning over a few times, hold the kill switch down until the blue light goes off. After that it’ll fire right up.

Are you using the cold start plunger? My FX fires up much faster if it's pushed in than if I just crank it.

Next time try this...

Hold throttle wide open and crank motor for 10 seconds then stop.

Then push kill switch button for another 10 seconds.

Pull enricher button and start.

I never figured out the issue. I think it’s just the nature of the bike it seems. Have not had any problems. Every once in awhile it does it.

I have tried the cold start, didn’t notice any change when the problem comes up.

My is doing the same thing. It didn't start doing this until I loaded a different map to map 2, but I haven't changed map 1 and start on map1.

I just replaced my Injector and that has helped a lot. I have also found that bumping the starter button for a second helps with priming.

That worked for me the last time it was hard to start.

Anyone ever figure out a slam-dunk answer for this issue?

Mine has been an absolute cow to start cold lately. Hot no issues. Everything in spec.

Does it do this with different maps?

I never did figure out what it was but the problem went away after while and its been good. I replaced the battery and maybe that was it. I’ve heard the stock batteries are not that good.

Like was stated above, hold the kill button down until the map light goes out and try it again. It works every time for me. I read this in several places and it works.
