For those who felt the need to cut him down, it is worth looking at whatever it is that he triggered inside of you.

Crabs in the bucket mentality? Or maybe holding deep judgements against yourself for not buckling down when your window was open (for anything)?

The whole "you must be jealous and insecure" because you called someone else out is a tired and lazy argument

You are right, it is normal. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s your ego getting triggered.

I find it lazy and tiresome to project judgements into/onto the world instead of looking in the mirror when they come up.

Everyone has opinions. Anyone can talk shit. Just because it’s normalized doesn’t mean AJ is wrong.

I feel like this is a "any publicity is good publicity" situation, been seeing a ton of sponsored ads with him the past several days suddenly.

Dude I don't want to derail this thread too much, but the fact I said it's not always ego and you decide to come back with "it doesn't change the fact your ego is triggered."

Seems you just want to remove any situation where the person being "attacked" is just bringing it on themselves for their outlandish or arrogant statements.

AJ, a guy who has been overwhelmingly shunned by most in the industry at this point, trying to lecture people because they called him out, is just a continuation of his arrogance.

You and I will obviously continue to disagree on this, which is also fine, it's just once again pretty lazy to generalize everyone who thinks AJ is a kook as jealous or their ego has been triggered.

Give it 5 hard years and we’ll see if AJ’s theory holds true in carpentry as well

Only teasing, buddy. It’s raining, I’m watching my projects sit, and thought I better get in on some Vital mud slingin.

Awhile back, didn't he also say James Stewart couldn't ride today's Supercross whoops? Or was that some other fool?

You can get good in 5 years, can you get good enough to make money is the question.

I like what he (and Ryno) teaches, it just makes sense to me, and though I've never attended one of his schools, what he teaches has improved my riding tremendously...I see it as human nature to look back at your life with a different perspective (20/20 hindsight) and think it could have been done better/different that you did it. Maybe he's looking back on his pro career with that same 20/20 hindsight vision and realizing he didn't capitalize on opportunities he was given and thinking he could have done more/done better than he did, and verbalizing it? I think most of us have done the same thing at some point, and in certain aspects of our lives...So I don't get all the personal attacks on him?

I also don't think its a stretch to assume that if SOME people were dropped into a perfect program with the best bike, best trainer, best circumstances, no injuries...that SOME people could be a national champion....Is AJ one of those people?  Maybe, Maybe not...but I have no doubt there are people it would work for...if for not other reason that it would eliminate the mental excuses they have, and give them the confidence to just go faster...

I don't believe you're either born with it or you aren't.

Michael Jordan got cut in High School.  Einstein flunked math.

I believe many things are possible for all of us, but it's more likely, and requires less work, when we pursue things we're naturally good at.

Some of the pros are riding at their max, and no matter how much additional training they have, they'll make only small gains.

But some of them could breakout, if they keep going.  Not by going through the motions, but by continuing to push, learn, refine.

When you hit your stride in something, it can click in an instance.  All the years of pushing come together, and you grow exponentially.

This  happened for me with playing guitar.  After several years of playing hours per day, and 6 months of 6-8 hours per day, it all came together, and clicked in one day.  In the morning, I struggled with leads, and in the afternoon, it was magical.  I got my guitar skills from hard work, and persistence, not natural talent.

For AJ, I've watched him race, and it seems his technique is almost too clean.  On the equipment he's had, he's qualified well.  I don't know where he's at today, but as of a couple of years ago, I believe that if he was on a good team with a disciplined program, trainers to help him on riding and mostly on the mental side, he could win.

However, I believe these things would need to be overcome.  This is what stands in his way.

1) He needs to man up, and go for holeshots.  It's not that he sucks at starts.  He's said before that riding close to other riders makes him nervous.  He's going to have to deal with first turn chaos.

2) He needs more grit.  He needs to fight for every position.  This is hard to teach, but can be developed.  His first year back in SX, he was really bad.  In the 2nd year, he started to fight, and his results improved dramatically.  If he can develop Deegan like determination, he'd be on the podium regularly.

3) Practice is different than racing.  Like I said, his technique is almost too clean.  In racing, sometimes you have to send it, and draw outside of the lines a bit.

I hope he races again, but only if he's all in 100%.

I'm sure you're a great guitar player but this would be like you walking around telling people you could have been the next Eddie Van Halen. There's a lot more to racing and guitar than just technique.

Along these same lines... I've been riding and racing very consistently since 2016. Got my ass in shape in 2018 and still work hard to be a better rider (even at 39 years old now). Prior to that, I rode as a teenager and very little in my 20s. I get in 50-75 hours a year these days.

I drag my brother to the track maybe 1-2 times a year. So, 1-2 hours total seat time in 2024 for him maybe? Before 2022 he hadn't ridden a dirtbike in 15 years or so. He stays right with me. He has no fitness so he only has a lap at a time in him, but he's on my ass and if he starts ahead of me it takes everything I have to make a pass. He's ALWAYS been naturally better than me (and most people I've ever known) on 2 wheels. He can ride a wheelie for miles, perfectly time/judge any jump, and he has no fear in sending it. He just has "it". His bike control is far superior to mine and his natural form and technique is just better... Which drives me crazy because that's always such a huge focus for me.

He's hitting the gym now, so if he decides to come racing with me, I have no doubt he's beating me within a few motos no problem. The 8 years I've built up "against" him is meaningless lol. You can't beat a natural who also decides to put in the work...

Do we have the same brother?  lol

I could have written that same thing about my brother...he just has WAY more natural talent that I do.  Doesn't matter how much I train, how much I ride, how much I practice...he'll come off the couch and be just as fast as me...and if he rides consistently, he smokes me.  Life's not fair!  Ha!

It's all the proof I'll ever need that people are just naturally gifted at certain things. There's other sports and hobbies I can perform a lot better and with far less effort than him. Just luck of the draw!

Make no mistake though, if he decides to get half serious and actually go racing, I'll be running him high and off the track before I ever let him by 🤣

Well, if its any consolation...I'm sure Hunter feels the same way about Jett....And you've probably got a friend that works his tail off, and you could come off the couch and be faster than him...so he's on some message board typing the same thing about you.  lol

That’s a no for me.  I have watched plenty of pro races, and ridden on a practice day with pro’s.  I have seen the fastest of the local pro’s who can barely even qualify for a national.  I highly doubt I could have ever done much more than MAYBE make a pro national with 5 years of training.

After being on the track with Carson Brown I question how anyone could go faster on a dirt bike, then you see his times compared to the guys at the pointy end. It's pretty insane

That's completely alright.  I've taken back my 'like's too.  Having natural talent certainly makes the task a lot easier, but hard, smart, focused work, and determination can go a long, long way!  I don't believe doing endless, mindless laps in anything really does much.

It's the focus, and learning that makes you improve.
To a point, there's no alternative to putting in lots of laps, doing scales on guitar, etc..., but past that, going through the motions gains you little.  Intense focus gains you a lot!

Have a good day!
