Im sorry maybe I forgot or I completley missed it. Why was it removed from the calendar? Thought it was a spectacular track with great racing.

There’s a water reservoir for drinking water next to it, over the hill. They had issues with erosion into the reservoir I’m pretty sure, so it was a battle with the PADEP. I drive past it every so often now. It’s just back to fields.

It was rained out canceling the final round of the Outdoor Nationals, which meant Grant Langston was awarded the 125cc MX National Championship !

DC mentioned recently that he gave it up for a southeast national (Muddy Creek).

What’s stated in the post above might trump altruism as the reason why.

Steel city was ended WAY before muddy creek was ever thought about. DC has mentioned several times Steel City was axed after mx sports took over the nationals because they didn't want two races within 60 miles of each other. The other track being High Point.

I thought the Steel City round became Utah, which was then axed when Southwick returned to the schedule.

Freestone became Muddy Creek then WW Ranch then Pala II then it was axed for SMX. At least that was the talk around here (in TX).

So the original Southwick is now Ironman, Steel City is now the new Southwick, and the southern national is gone.

Dungey won Steel City in 2012 and Muddy Creek in 2013.

DC also mentioned the distance.

Again, what's stated above might trump altruism.

I guess it'd depend on how you determine what round became what.

Steel City and Freestone dropped off the calendar the same year and Muddy Creek and Utah popped up. Don't know the "trade" that went down in the offseason behind closed doors.

If basing off what weekend the event is, it can get messy as many have moved around. Example...in 2014, Utah became Ironman and Lake Elsinore became Utah. Other tracks like Thunder Valley, Budd's Creek, and Spring Creek all have moved around on the calendar.

I could be completely tripping about what DC said recently.

I think it's probably semantics - Freestone and Steel City out, Muddy Creek and Utah in. I don't know if MX Sports tracks which national goes where, but the talk on the ground at Freestone at the time was their rights were going to Tennessee.

My apologies I did not remember Muddy creek starting that long ago, but now seems like when muddy creek was announced they got a 6yr deal ending in 2018. Man time flies!

That might have been the initial move and became the straw that broke Steel City’s back.

And Elsinore took Pala’s spot for a couple years, right? Until GH came back for that stretch?

GH took Hangtown’s spot. Which Hangtown took from GH originally. But Hangtown took it back. Because MX Sports took tickets from GH.

Or something like that.

Sure wish DC & Crew could find way to fit a Texas round at beginning of series as I fully understand by July it's usually hotter than Hades

Do you remember Country Springs out in New Alexandria from the late '70's? It's not very far from Delmont where Steel City is.

CS did not have the great dirt that Penny Hollow had, but it was a damn fine track. I remember the gravity cavity at CS as fondly as the one at Unadilla.

I raced at the MX track right beside Keystone Raceway Park (dragstrip) many times in the early to mid ‘70’s.   I would consider it my home track back then.   Not very hilly and plenty of dust but I didn’t care. I just loved to race!   Those were great times!!!

If Texas ever gets another National, it’ll be at BillaDilla. The place is amazing!IMG 2057 2

If a National happens in the south again, my opinion is 100% Barber motorsports park.
