Gypsy vs Pulp

7/10/2024 2:02pm

Steve Matthes is insufferably douchey and a liberal cuck to make matters worse. His Manderin shtick is so bad and he doesn’t even realize it. He talks like a teenage boy with Kieffer about dicks and whatnot and it is kinda of pathetic. I can’t even listen to Pulp Mx anymore.

Gypsy all day, he does get a bit tired with the surfer like deal, but he is still light years ahead of Steve Matthes and Pulp MX.

Motox pod show is better than Pulp.

What we need is a show by Daniel Blair. That would slay them all.

… but Pulp MX is two pounds of shit in a one pound bag.

YouTube Stats for the last 30 days:

gypsy Tales: 3.7M views

Pulpmx: 230k Views

I know YouTube is just one platform, but that’s a HUGE difference..

He does the Manderin because he knows people will make a big deal on it and he gets a chuckle to hiimself.

Daniel Blair does have a show you have to pay for it, so pay for it or take in the Ad reads and enjoy it.

There really is no comparison.  Go back and listen to the early Matthes interviews.   I think i've listened to almost all of them.  There's hours and hours of interview content just floating around out there.  Right now...i think Pulpmx is becoming like Howard Stern with the Wackpack and all that.  The show is fun to listen to live.

Daniel Blair has a podcast on patreon but he also does a video on youtube once a week about the up coming race, and he does the overreaction show on sundays after a race. It’s called main event moto on youtube and patreon.

I just can’t handle the parasocialism from Gypsy. It’s hard to watch. You can tell the “best friend” energy is not reciprocated by the top riders he tries so hard to convince us he’s best friends with. At least with Steve he keeps it respectably level with riders he’s not close with.

parasocialism? I had to google it, and even google said WTF?

I'm starting to like Dark's show better than both of 'em.

Shorts pay terrible, unless you are getting 10s or 100s of millions of views.

1000 short views pays about 10 standard video views.

Gypsy tales has split channels.

If you search Gypsy Tales on social blade or other tracking services, you're getting the channel he puts shorts and the 5-15 mins clips from the show. That reflects the 3.7 million views for the last 30 days.

He has a second channel called Gypsy Tales Podcast, that channel holds all the full length podcasts on YouTube. That channel did 472,000 views in the last 30 days against only the long-form podcasts.

Pulp's 230k for the last 30 days reflects the Monday live show, Moto60 Show, clips from the Monday show, LVK, and Fantasy pod content.

828,000 of Gypsy's views in the last 30 days are for standard content posted in the last 30 days, not accounting for shorts or any content posted more than 30 days ago but producing views in the last 30 days.

I feel bad for guests who call into Pulp sometimes. Steve is a tough host…if a cricket chirps in the background, then you don’t stand a chance of remaining on the call. That part is pretty rough lol. But I like them both. Gypsy bros down too much for me but I really respect the growth of his show and is intellectual questions.

I think Steve could apply a even tougher filter from my view. Can't people keep quiet for 60sec?

Also, people can't stop talking. Ask your question, then stfu and let the other side take it from there. Annoying to listen to.

I don't take this that serious, it's just shit talking.  Just like you would with your buddies on the tailgate after a day of moto.

Some of ya'll should remember that and read more shit here with a little sarcasm.  Or maybe it's just that most of you don't actually ride or have friends so you don't know what it likes to talk shit after a day of moto, in that case I truly do feel sorry for you.

My son listens to Gypsy

I listen to pulp, even though Steve’s a douchbag, wa-wa-wa!
and a liberal.

I tried Gypsy a few times and the Jujitsu mentions were too much.

I'll listen to both and just don't whinge about it and be grateful that they are busting their balls to provide content for everyone whinging, if they were to stop tomorrow you would all whinge.

Yeah both shows have their flaws but no one is perfect except for Vital MX members.

Pulp is worth the listen every week even if you just tune in for the Phil segment.

The Eli interview when Phil was in studio is all time, best Eli interview I've ever heard.

Pulp was a lot of fun back when they hosted their own chatroom on their site. It was a pretty small group and we'd all bs and crack jokes and whatnot. Good times.

I think Gypsy is targeting the Joe Rogan crowd — and Pulp is more Dad Core.

I like both for different reasons, although do listen to pulp a lot more, but enjoy some of Gypsy’s stuff from time to time.

I don’t see why people feel the need to pick a “team”

I remember when I was a little guy getting one magazine a month with race results that were typically 3 months out of date, and then getting a “Bar to Bar” VHS for Christmas every year. We are so spoilt for content to consume now. It is great.

Although, I still look back on those times so fondly too.

I listen to them both as well as some other podcasts.  In my opinion You are missing out on some good insight into the sport if You avoid either one because of the parts of them you dislike.

Pulp/Steve Mathis  has more of a shotgun style approach with  in-depth longform one on e interviews, the multiple guest shows, race reports, breaking news, and more. And is more of a network at this point than a show.

While Gyspy Tales takes a sniper rifle approach and only has one on one in depth interviews. I think that he is really good at this and  knows the questions that have been asked in other interviews and gets some different stuff.  If Pulp has done an interview with a rider that goes on Gypsy tales after , You might get some follow up questions to what was talked about on Pulp or other interviews. But He does a good job at not just asking all the same stuff or getting the same interview from guests. So even if You have heard a guest on with somebody else its worth listening if You like them.

I always thought it was funny how the hard-core Pulp fans treat it like a gang. Like if you are part of Pulp, you have to hate on Gypsy or something lol. I personally am not a huge podcast person so I listen to each here and there. Both shows are different so it's nice that you get 2 different types of content. I do think Steve is somewhat unlikeable at times, or at least comes off that way. He's 1 of those people that acts like he's reasonable but really he can't handle someone having a different opinion. But I respect how he has helped riders and overall he is good for the sport. Gypsy, seems like a cool guy. I don't really get into the mma talk or some of the lingo but that is a minor thing. I wasn't on board with his vid about getting rid of the privateers but I feel like he would be easier to discuss something w a different view than Steve. I have really enjoyed the rider conversation on Gypsy. It's very interesting.  On Pulp, I mostly enjoy Keefer, Phil and DV. But  both shows have their place, for me.

I tend to prefer Gypsy. Both have their pros/cons, and I totally get that Jase's "dude, bro, f-bomb every other word" schtick is pretty cringe and eye-roll inducing, but I don't have too hard of a time putting up with it because I enjoy his multi-hour long conversations with absolute legends of our sport. How many times will we ever get to listen to Ryan Dungey in a two hour-long conversation ever again?

Part of it might be a generational thing as well. I'm in my 20s, and while I don't generally talk the way Jase talks, I know several people who do, so I'm not particularly jarred by his jargon. Beneath the stereotype that he pretty easily fits, he seems to be a good dude, and I've heard others who have met him say the same.

Matthes is just a little bit off-putting to me. I know a large part of his on-air personality is intentionally dry for comedic effect, but I just don't jive with it as much as others. I like sarcasm and dry humor, but I don't get much when a guy seemingly doesn't smile or exude any form of happiness for a single second over the course of a five hour podcast. At least Jase shows a very obvious passion for moto/training/career related conversations. Matthes, to me, acts like he doesn't want to be there. Again, could be a generational thing, and I'm sure he does want to be there, as he's been highly involved in the sport for so many years now.

Pulp for me, Marx is my favourite. He’s low key funniest/best in the room. I like Steve’s rapport with his guests and it has really made me take notice and appreciate the privateers in the sport. Say what you want about the guy, but what he has done for privateers is nothing short of amazing. It’s a fun ride to be on too, LCQ challenge etc.

I am baffled by the sponsors, often conflicting brands I.e. pushing Ogio bags and Zulz bags, Fly shows, FXR shows, the list goes on and on and on.

One thing I can respect the hell out of is the fact that so many competing media have copied his model, post race interviews, post race shows, reaction shows etc. they are now getting them out faster because they have more staff and are grinding to be the first to get these on air. It doesn’t seem to bother him, even having these media on his shows. Not a lot of creativity out there, just copy paste. That’d probably piss me off a bit.

I try Gypsy every 6 months or so, I would definitely fit his demographic better. But I just can’t stand him. Even my wife will give me shit when she hears me listening. Can’t stand him either. He’s just on repeat with his themes and trying to tell his story on every podcast. I don’t care about his BJJ, meditation, books he reads, philosophies, being around (insert name drop), Dubai, his wife. Has such good guests, and I love long form podcasts.

I was really getting into Whiskey Throttle until they suddenly turned into a woods podcast for some reason.  I pick and choose Gypsy that I want to listen to.  I like Pulp have from the start but gah do I wish he wasn't a liberal.
