Seemed like he was just in an awkward position to get up from after he fell, looked like his shoulder took the brunt of the impact and his helmet just touched the ground. Thats just what I saw.

That's what I saw. He really didn't take that long to get back up to speed. Look at heis sector times. I think he only lost time in that section.

Respectfully gnarly

There were multiple threads here on Vital when J. Smith continued to ride even though he looked like he was concussed after his crash in the whoops (I don't remember which SX round). So, I don't get why OP is getting so much backlash. OF COURSE the rider himself will always say he is good to go, so this is not really an argument here. Hunter is just a clever guy by saying he mustve hit his head harder than he thought afterwards.

this whole CTE/concussion thing has gotten way out of control....We used to not care at all(which wasnt right), now if someone gets a scratch from their barber we are worried about a concussion protocol.   CTE is the result of 1000s of moderate head impacts (ie boxing, football) and probably double digits(10+) of hard impacts(see pastrana/knockouts no matter the mechanism.)  and even then the vast majority of people in high risk sports(boxing, fighting, football) there's a handful of people with CTE out of the thousands of athlete exposed to that kind of injury(repetitive minor head impacts).  Also post concussive syndrome is not the same at CTE.

TLDR: he bonked his head, he's fine, get over it.

I hope Hunter gets better quickly & can give Sexton a competitive run for the rest of the season.

Those “chest protectors” are simply ventilated sheets of plastic made more for deflecting boulder-sized roost from the 450’s they’re behind. They don’t really qualify as genuine protective gear.

Who cares if someone gets a concussion, it's their body they can do whatever they want as far as I am concerned.

Where can I find the info about the thousands of dead contact sport athletes whose skulls were cut open to check for signs of CTE, to no avail?

Hunter was putting in a great ride! Did not look like Chase had an answer for him until he crashed…track looked gnarly….looked like Honda could do no wrong …. Things change fast in Mx….concussed for sure, head does not have to hit ground hard to be concussed. What does our resident Mx expert say? Professional 125 were you there?

Happens a lot when a fighter gets knocked down for a second and gets right back up. Lots of times they appear stable after.

Not ragging the EMT's, just the vitards.

I'm just here to point out the hypocrisy of you calling everyone Vitards when you've proven over and over again to be one of the biggest dumb fucks here.

Just stop Lon, you ain't any better than the rest of us it's just your New York arrogance...or maybe ignorance....that makes you think you are.

A lot of the newer stuff is CE rated as protective gear. They have puncture and impact ratings on some of the newer models.  Thor and Alpinestars have under protectors that have a CE rating.

I do agree that most of the top guys are riding under protected though. I had some 2025 gear samples in the shop , and some of the new gloves are so thin. If they hold up I think that I would like how they feel. But they have to be the thinnest gloves I've ever felt. Like jersey or road bike short material thin.  I have some gloves with synthetic material in the palms that have held up extremely well. So I don't doubt that they will hold up similarly to what's out now.

I do really hope that the trend of less and less protective gear reverses. The materials that are available these days allow for some of the least restrictive , but still protective gear to be made. It would be nice to see some of the energy absorbing materials built into pants and jerseys at some point.  At thins point ,   Carhart work pants and shirt are  going to offer more durability and abrasion protection than most of the high end pants and jersey's offered. Other than the leather on the knees.

Was there any sign in the crash he hit his head?  He jumped right up so not sure why they would test him.  If he had laid there for a bit or swerved all over the track for a lap etc I could see it.  They don't test every rider who falls......

How can you watch that and not see he hit his head? If you don’t have glasses, get some. 🤦🏼

I never said he didn't hit his head brother, I said there was no sign of it meaning he got right up and was not knocked out etc.....and my point AGAIN was we cannot expect the docs to monitor every crash and decide who hit their head or not.  That would be up to the team and the rider in a case like this.

Completely different story if they had to assess Hunter on the track and he was stumbling around like Stewart at Daytona.

My apologies. I read, “Was there any sign in the crash he hit his head?”, as you thinking he didn’t hit his head. I’m literal.

Again you show your true colors, you are actually a decent poster but your distaste for certain riders for whatever reason just brings out the worst in you and it's embarrassing.

Must be tough to be you in recent times with Lawerences doing great and Deegan dominating, but of course here you are trying to find negatives against the Lawerences once again.

You are so far of from science here it needs to be addressed.

Even a small hit to the head raises the NFL protein in you spine indicating head trauma (the protein leaks from brain to spine). Trust me, I have been through several spinal cord tests and seen the result.

With that crash Hunter had, if he has another one within a few days, he's looking at 4-12 weeks for it to go back to acceptable levels. If it really goes to shit, it's unrecoverable.

A boxer that gets knocked down (not necessarily out) takes 3-6 months to recover. NFL protein spikes to levels above 4000. Thats what we call a crash and you get back up and ride. J smiths was worse than that.

Any hit again within that time frame to recover (lower NFL protein in spinal core), you're in the risk of permanent damage.

I myself know (about) 3 pro riders, that can't ride today even after years of trying to recover. Millsaps is just one. I have myself redrawn start permits for national championship rider (during race day) due to repeated head trauma.

So much progress has been made In this area over the last 10-15 years, it should be a crime to ignore it today.

It should be mandatory to visit EMT after a crash with possible head trauma, before you can line up again. Hunter and Smith is two living examples. Let's not wait until we get a dead one.

Too bad your lust for the funk of a Hunter Bro J Strap have have you totally blinded. Please show me where in this thread I posted anything negative towards the Lawrence's or the Deegan's.

It was all about the hypocrisy of the vitards attacking certain riders and ignoring it when it comes to their chosen ones. Prove me wrong. Oh' Snap, you just proved me right.

Big deal, he got concussed and still raced. In Hare Scrambles I've been concussed twice on the same lap, and it didn't have any effect on me. Hell, it may heighten my other senses. In High School I was tested with an IQ of 141 and after a lifetime of riding and racing dirt bikes I can tell you what windows taste best.

I am not saying it is the answer but an RFID device that is triggered like an airbag sensor at say 15G's (testing would give a more realistic number) would be a cheap step in the right direction. If you get flagged exiting the track you get checked...

Let's say you're right. Hunta rang his bell. He was seeing chrome gnats. He essentially picks up his bike in a semi conscious state, at best,,,, and proceeds to NOT lose a spot to JC. The debate about his condition, post crash, to me should be equal parts how much of a stallion the young man is. I like Hunter better than Jett but, I'm no fan boy. Credit where it's due, though. He's a tough somebody.
