He's apparently recommended by Troy Lee and he's18 that's about it. Is he made of the same stuff as Baggett, Wilson, Barcia or we shouldn't expect too much?

DDavis Are you saying he would be challenging for a british title speedwise then? Because that is pretty fast = Osborne/ Nicholls speed. It would be pretty impressive if he was running top 10 all year... maybe he can and portugal should suit him. Is he as fast as Wilson/Tomac and co?

I would say he will be be similar to where he would finish in the US nationals. Im guessing 15th to 20th with the changes he will endure with countries and tracks, maybe top 10 at Glen Helen. but maybe he could be right there from the first round. He is a pretty unknown quantity really apart from he should be quick enough to score points, except maybe the sand tracks.

It will be a great experiance and he will get faster racing with the best in the world. I hope he adapts and does well.

And FYI, thinking a top 5 is a stretch for a kid with zero pro experience, riding a new bike, in a place he has never been to, with two days to get ready against the best Europe has to offer, is certainly not bagging on him.

Do you guys think any random top 5 amateur A rider can step into the GPs and run w/the top 5 guys over there. If you do think that you're in some kind of fantasy land. Also taking into consideration the kid has never raced at a national or world level yet, has never raced 35+2, has never raced out of the country, and has never raced this bike before top 5 should and would make front page news. I do wish him luck and will be rooting for him just like I have for Albee and Osborne and every American before them. One thing I love about the GPs is all the USA pride you have when a yank does well. I wish we had more over there. I hope Albee and Leib are the start of a new trend..Can't wait for AC92 to turn 15..
Well said. Top 5 in a british championship would be impressive let alone the GPs.

First off, I was talking about the outdoors, not the GP's. Secondly as i said in my previous posts, if half or even any of you know the kind of work this kid is putting in, you would agree with me. You all think speed takes forever to "learn." Michael has gotten so fast within the last few months, it's rediculous. Also for everyone else giving me crap about saying an amateur will run top ten, whats the difference with saying Eli will run top ten, sounds to me like a bunch of hypocrites.

About 6 weeks ago Tomac was about 4 to 5 seconds a lap faster at Oak Hill. Tomac beat him by 30 seconds twice, 46 seconds one moto and over a minute in another moto. It was not really close so unless the gap has closed significantly since they raced at Oak Hill in 4 motos where Tomac went 1-1-1-1 and Michael went 9-4-7-3, I don't think it is hypocritical at all to think Tomac would do better.

I'm still pulling for him and hope he totally proves me wrong. I have been a fan since he was on 65s. I watched his charge through the pack at LLs with no clutch to clinch a title by a point, watched his national A class debut at Oak Hill, and saw him fight the injury bug to come back strong, but I have yet to see anything that makes me think he will be a top 7 national rider or a top 10 GP rider as a rookie. I think those expectations are unreasonable for a kid who has really only ridden A class for as short a time as he has. I guess we will all know by Sunday. I hope he kicks ass!

Michael's fast, Definitely in that same group with Blake and Barcia. His work ethic and determination are what's impressive. Nice kid and family as well, as I'm sure many of you know.

Report from Dad..... Michael did crash during testing and yes he has a fracture, that's the bad news. The good news is that it is a small bone chip on the radius not by the joint. He is wearing a cast for a short period and it will be removed to see how the pain is. If all goes well Michael should be back on the bike very soon. The team is supportive and professional on many levels. Michael will be with the team in Portugal this weekend. Thanks for all your support!

Man that must suck to come all the way over, nervous but excited as hell and then injure yourself before you've even begun to settle in. How long do they think he'll be in plaster for? Back on a bike in time for Glen Helen no doubt!

He's no more "fragile" than any other rider out there. RV and Reed fragile as well? Don, don't sweat it man. Just a little regrouping time.

Yeah I never understood the fragile opinions. Especially the more time goes on simply because of progression. Current top amateurs are so gnarly fast now it's borderline ridiculous.

To me it feels like we're entering a new phase of walking a fine line as far as crashing is concerned. "Go THIS fast, or go home".
