Rest in Peace, Danny and thanks for all the memories.
I was there 20 ft away watching this photo shoot in amazement. I forget which magazine it was for but this pic made the cover i think. This shit was incredible back then. You could only see someone do that stuff on a bike if you watched magoo. I used to hit that wall all the time on my 60 or 80 and dream of doing it just like magoo did.

I can't go to sleep. It's 12:33am and I have to get up at 5:30 to go to work and I just can't go to sleep.

I remember watching Danny doing a track walk at Whitney. The Dude was wrapped up like a mummy! I was like damn, Magoo is the Mummy, his knees and elbows were wrapped up and he walked the entire track, suited up for the day and rode like an animal. I loved watching that guy ride wide open like it was nothing. RIP Dude...

So sorry to hear that.

I feel lucky I got to see him race plenty of times, Maico, KTM, and Honda. At Saddleback, claiming the Magoo double, at Carlsbad for the Superbikers and USGP. And that flat whip at the Rose Bowl Supercross.

Roost on, Danny.

That is unreal. Being to young to have ever seen him ride in person but able to see all the photos and video of his career makes me understand the impact he had on the sport. Talent like that is a rare gift.

RIP.

Devastating news.

"Wide Fucking Opened" is what described him best.

"WFO" may have been used before him and after him but, except for RC, no-one truly deserved it as much as him...

He pushed the limits of what is possible to accomplish with an MX bike and it took a couple of generations for others to absorb it.

Actually, ì'd say Magoo was the RC before the bikes became good enough to make it possible to ride like that, and be as successful as RC has been...

He paid a heavy price for being such a precursor, as, often, legendary individuals do.

Sad day, but watching some wild footage of him will still bring a smile on our faces.

Legends have the power to do that, too.

Nobody could ride a 500 like Danny... Period.
He rode that bike like it was a 125.
Always my favorite rider.

RIP.

A legend all over the world. IMO the most popular and loved rider ever, especially here in Nor Cal.

Thanks for all the thrills and chills over the years. You were certainly one of a kind and will be missed.

Tell me about it Bob.... Cant sleep. When i spoke to My mom, she said Dave isnt taking it so well. Pretty fucked up he was there alone, fucking ripping my heart out that there wasnt anyone there to help him. In just a couple weeks he would of been at Daves house to live.

Godspeed "Magoo".......Danny was one of a kind and he will be truly missed. My fondest memory of Danny was at the 1986 Golden State Series at 395 Cycle Park (Now Racetown)...he had won both open motos that day and was in the pits signing autographs when this kid with 2 broken arms walks up to him. Danny asked him what had happened, the kid said he crashed on his mini. Danny said that sucks, and while signing his autograph says to him without hesistation "How do you wipe your @ss after you take a dump? The kid says, My mom does it for me. Danny says, "She must love you...LOL

Sad

I wasn't born while he was still riding, but as any good MX-bloke I do know of his legacy, and seeing videos and pictures from his career has always been a blast. I can only imagine what it was like seeing him ride in person back then.

RIP Magoo.
