This break will be good for Jett

As weve seen with the many early retirements in our sport the ones who are winning multiple championships in a row are the ones who retire early. They win so many in a row that it becomes expected when they win, but when they dont its seen as a massive failure. It gets to the point where everyone is just waiting for them to finally lose a championship and the pressure is massive and the greats opt to go out on top.

Even though its only Jetts second year on the 450 he was won 7 championships straight. Every championship he lined up in for the last 7 in a row he has won. Theres no chance that it isnt already weighing pretty heavy on him. I think if anything this bit of down time will be good for him to just get some time away from racing and the pressure and he can come back refreshed.

Its been obvious that since his injury hes been lagging behind of fitness and health from taking time off to try to heal and it seemed he was digging himself in to a hole that its hard to climb out from. It seems like this latest crash was prob the culmination of all of that. The time off will do him good to recharge and come back stronger than ever. Itll be nice to give chase some time as well to have jett out of the picture where he should be able to rack up overall wins and gain confidence in the mean time. This will all be a positive imo.

No, it won't. Getting hurt and missing time on the bike is rarely ever good for the rider in question. Everyone else is getting better while the injured rider is just hoping they can get back to what they were pre-injury,  and often times they don't. Look at what happened to Tomac

Yea, tomacs fitness went thru the floor...and it sucks balls that he got hurt again because he was JUST getting back to form... He was 90% there and bam he gets hurt again.

It really blows that he went out that way with the Achilles heel... Just goes to show you absolutely anything can happen even if you do everything correct. He got screwed by no fault of his own.

It's just gonna suck if he never gets back to the top, and he likely won't after the thumb injury. He had a chance before that... Now I'm not so sure. (Unless he's training his balls off currently)

Jett can do a lot more fitness wise with the thumb recovery than Eli could with his Achilles.

He's 20-21, not at the point of needing a break.

That's like saying RC needed a break after his first title in 2001.

He will be fine and come back recharged and better than ever. Hopefully he gets his smile back also.  Because that has been missing for weeks and weeks. A happy Jett is a better Jett.

He had an avulsion fracture of his thumb…. and you needed three paragraphs to explain why it would be good for him to take a break?

In the 2015 Nationals, Tomac was racing at a level of speed few had ever reached.  After the Lakewood crash he had to adapt his race craft.   Herlings has had similar experiences.  Jett Lawrence will do the same and keep winning.

RC got a break in his last year on honda and came back as strong as ever for outdoors on the fourstroke before going back to a two strong as strong as ever the next year... I think the break was good for him

The only good this break will do for Jett is him having the time to tally up all his bonus money from the last 7 titles..Whistling

Thumb injury...he can still maintain his base fitness but the time off the bike will hurt him a bit.

Wish him a speedy recovery and hoping he will make the SMX rounds.

So with the thumb injury he will be able to maintain his fitness but the excuse last week was his fitness was down because he hasn’t been able to train?? 🤔

One positive thing is that he get to reset all the expectations and hype around him.

7 straight titles, perfect season etc. At one point this season finish second place in a moto would have been talken about as a massive failure because the streak should end.

Think about what that can do on a 20-21 year old, having all of that on your shoulders.

Now he can rest/heal all of his injuries and come back with some what of a fresh start. He is still the best rider in the world so i doubt that 2-3 months off the bike will scar him for life…

Villopoto was the best at coming back from injury. He missed a lot of track time in '09, '10 and '12 but just came back and immediately won titles every time. It can be done.

My fear is…like so many athletes in the past that want to run “one more season” because of their pride…that he will wind up getting more seriously hurt by pushing it too hard. I’m a Tomac fan, but I don’t want to see his ego be his downfall.

He was already not at 100% because of the shoulder injury.  He was getting tired because he had to change his riding style.  Pretty sure he said so after Southwick. The time off should help the shoulder injury heal also, so he should be back to his normal riding style when he returns.  He's not going to forget how to ride in a couple months.

Tomac is 31 years old and had a near year long recovery and that was pretty fast for an achilles. Jett is young and is expected to be back for smx which is in 9 weeks. Hell be fine and the break will do him good. Its not the physical part that takes these guys out early its the mental part of being under so much pressure for so long. Villopoto said the pressure of winning those championships in a row took him out and he wishes he tried something different like going to a new team to extend his career. Look at how Tomacs injury has actually extended his career, he was planning on retiring now he raced another year and is coming back for another one. Jett has won 7 championships in a row, thats a long time of being in the pressure cooker with no breaks. This should help him reset and come back refocused and hungry.

He's about a month off of being 21yrs old. He'll be fine. This is a speedup. He didn't destroy both shoulders and his arm like Tomac and Roczen. Shoot, he was still winning. I'll gladly cheer Chase on as he takes this title but the series has lost some luster without Jett out there for me. And you know he's coming back a smarter rider.
