Mike Goodwin the long time announcer died

Mike Goodwin is in jail for Mickey Thompson's murder. Mike Goodwin was the promoter / creator of The Superbowl of Motocross which is now Supercross. Larry Huffman was the "voice" of SX and other motorsports for years who just passed away this week too

RIP Mike. I know Mike hit some rough spots after racing, but had cleaned up and had his own barber shop.  Mike owned up to his mistakes and never made excuses. My sincere condolences to Mike's family and loved ones.

Very sad news. Mike was fast and nearly got a World Championship, missed out by a few points.

Think how much that changed his life. To be a World Champion puts you on a different pedestal for sure and just maybe he wouldn't have gone down the path he did.

RIP GUNNER

I did a bunch of Healey schools. He was a great riding coach for people who wanted to put the work in(20 min motos at the end of the day after riding and doing sections all day) but didn’t put up with the bs. He was really nice, funny and even in his age, punk rock. When those aluminum frame Yamaha 2-strokes came out, we were doing a school at starwest. Cycle news test rider had the first either of us had seen. He waited until the guy went to the portojohn and said “let’s go”. 14 year old me followed behind and watched him fire it up and just ring that thing out wide open. The cycle news guy bursts out of the John pants half done with piss covered boots screaming wtf!?!?….then he saw it was Mike. Guy let me take a few laps on it. I’ve got a few stories about the guy. He had the terrible time with jail and everything which sucks. But before then when I got to spend hours with him learning and shooting the breeze, he was a really great guy. BigRips stray cat. Remember to look way past your fender and hold on with your knees. And if you ride in the desert, chase a rabbit. It teaches great hand eye coordination on the bike.

Here in the Netherlands he will never be forgotten. At the Kappenbulten circuit in Halle, the long table is named after him because he was the first to jump them completely. In which he broke the subframe and rear silencer in the first heat, the second he won.

There is still a story going around that he told the shovel driver that there were branches in the way of that table, the driver looked at him or saw water burning.

Great time with many fast American riders in the GPs .

RIP Mike.

Sad news, my condoleances. He will forever live on in The Netherlands because we have a jump named after him at "De kappenbulten" circuit: "The Healey Jump". It got its named because of healey just sending it hitting the tree branches with his head. Legend

In the early 90's he had a goatee beard when they weren't really that common. so when a bunch us filled a minibus and went to a GP that summer, we all grew our beards out beforehand (as much as late teens/early 20's kids can lol) then shaved them into "Healey goatees" in tribute.

When I started helmet painting in the 90's I must've been asked for dozens of copies of his Guns N' Roses helmet. RIP Gunner

Maybe they will mention his passing during the broadcast today. I'm sure it would be appreciated by his family that he is remembered.

I hope it is mentioned on the broadcast. Not one mention of Mikes passing on Racer X or a mention on Vitial news home page. I know he is not a multi time champion, but he still had an impact on our sport.

Rest in peace.

That’s a very nice tribute, sir.

I met Mike in the paddock just after the 1992 Irish GP. He took time out and spoke with me. A random 12yr old Irish kid. He gave me his bieffe race pants from that day. The first American superstar I got to meet and he took time out of his day to chat with me. Legend.

by the way the bieffe pants are in my 5yr olds wardrobe waiting until he is old enough to hear the story.
