I think he will for sure be top 5 and I wouldn't be all that surprised if Eli won a few motos this year and at least one overall. I know there's allot of talent out there but I think Eli will be way up there. I think his 1st year outdoors will be very similar to Barcias 1st year. Flashes of brilliance with plenty of rookie mistakes mixed in with those flashes of brilliance.

Personally I see less mistakes out of him because of the way he rides the bike.

Yes he looks fast.

We will have to see when he gets on a track with some actual bumps and ruts.

And last but not least, gosh that Fox colorway is FUGLY!

He's so smooth, it's hard to tell.

That's the first video I've seen of him on a full-size bike, and I'm more impressed than I expected to be.

He's gonna go places.

I know what you're saying and I kind of agree but any rookie getting used to the pace that guys like Poucel,Barcia,Rattray,Searle,Canard, etc etc run for 35 min is going make a ton of mistakes. Especially someone like Tomac who expects himself to be racing for wins like I'm sure he does. He barely falls short of saying he expects to win in that interview. He says I expect top 5's but I can't get the win out of the back of my head. To me that's saying I expect to win without saying it and sounding to sure of himself. I've seen him ride in person so I don't blame him for thinking he can win.

Dont get me wrong, I am a huge Tomac fan. I lived in cortez colorado were he is from and watched him race since he was 6, I know his dad and John is a great guy, and I hope he has a Barcia type year or better, but I just dont see the blazing fast speed there, I hope I am wrong.

I so agree, they are all great people. They have also taken it slow. Eli didnt race every race out there growing up and they would only hit the important ones.

Tomac wont make mistakes like Barcia does. Tomac has champion in his DNA. He is plenty mature for his age and I wouldnt be surprised to see him in the title hunt.

Im just stoked that he is aiming for the win- he could come in like Warton & expect top 10... & thats all he will get.
He seems to have a better head on his shoulders than Barcia- im picking that he takes race craft more seriously than flat out rev-limiting speed - and hes trained with some top dogs like BT101... I wont be surprised if he picks up a win this season IMO

Looking at Eli Tomacs lap times during LL 09

He was quicker then all the pros, and Eli won all his motos in Texas by +30 seconds. The kid isnt out of control, he studies the track and learns the quickest way around it as possible. I think CP will handle him points wise this year, but Eli will win the whole thing in 2011.

What age is Tomac? 16 or 17? looks similar to Barcia but maybe a bit smoother? Looking forward to seeing how he does, top 5 is possible at Hangtown I think

To me his suspension looked very soft in that video. Did anyone else think that?

Not saying that's a bad thing especially for outdoors, it just just looked soft to me.

Maybe I'm just to use to supercross suspension this time of year.

Having another fast rookie is going to be fun. He seems to have that right mix of confidence with out being cocky, he seems to believe he should win and will work towards it.

IMO the mental aspects of this sport are a huge factor.

I am huge fan of Tomac. Butter smooth with a bunch of speed yet to come. I'm pretty sure he'll be solid top tens all year and will finish in the top 5 in C points. He really seems like his style is more toward the outdoor. Which I think is awesome. I could be wrong but I like the fact that Tomac family ISN'T all moto all the time. The kid is a kid and not all that impressed that he's ET243... 2010 won't be his year but I'd be willing to bet he'll be around for a long time.

Looks very smooth and solid, hard to gauge speed from that video though. I'm sure FC knows why to expect from him. I predict he'll be in the 4th-8th range.

I'm with you WORCSracer, and keep this in mind: He's an excellent mud rider. I think that says a lot about his versatility, his upbringing (his father knows how important all-weather training is) and how he much technique he possesses.

At Loretta Lynn's last year, he was in one of the muddiest motos. He had a towel tucked into his pants JMB-style, and he hit the first turn wide open, sideways, feet on the pegs, and never shut off! I looked at Todd Hicks, who was standing right next to me, and we both just said "Holy smokes!"

I think he's going to be very good, and very soon.

Funny how things go.
As I get older many of the boyz from my day had sons that are now young men.
Young men about to give it a go just the way their Dad's did.
Sure times have certainly changed, & now-a-days kids talk back & everything.
But I had the pleasure of being acquainted with the elder Tomac through a mutal
pals BMX brother. The young version seems like the old. Confident, poised, and as they say ready for the challenge. As the older Tomac rose to become a hero in the cycling world I think here too we may be witnessing a carbon copy of such. "Believe the Hype" you say? I think it's already been written, and soon enough we'll all read it. 1 of my favorite bands, Linkin Park, wrote a song , "Remember the name".
I think that applies here.

I've been watching Eli race (in person) since he was on 85s.

Nothing like barcia. NOTHING! Barcia holds it wide open and just banks off berms and holds on for dear life, Tomac has steady throttle control and uses sweeping lines and never gets out of control. Mammoth 07 he checked out by half a lap, his lap times were quicker then Jeremy Mcgraths, on a supermini! The kid is 20x better then barcia in my opinion.
