It was user error on my part it appears. Working fine today. Fmf mentioned something and it was exactly what they thought.

Hey man just curious what the issue was? I just bolted up a vortex & put my spark arrestor in & started it up to make sure it runs. Seems it kinda bogs out if I snap throttle full bore but I rode the bike down the road & seemed fine so the road..I didn’t crack throttle wide open down the road. When the bike warmed up it was way better. I am optimistic that if I get it good & warm it’ll be solid but wondering what fmf said just in case. You can text me at (309) 258-4671 ! My name is Nick

I was getting bad air quality from where I was starting the bike up at.

Thanks yeah that makes sense I had that same thought too!

I’ve never owned a Kawi pretty and my last two bikes where Both 2014 yz250’s one for moto one for off-road and the 450FX is really peaking my interest since I no longer ride moto. Should I pick that over going with Yamaha again?

My first Kawi as well. The 2024 450x is a lot to handle in the tight stuff. Good lord.

I’ve seen it happen on a Honda in person. Unfortunately I don’t know what the diagnosis ended up being but I’ve definitely seen it.

With spring forks? Took them off today, it’s the brake side fork that is locked.

thanks, I tried looking on their website but there is nothing specific for 2024, did you use the ones from previous years?

Thanks

Any Kaw dealer can order them for you.  A guy posted the part numbers a page or two back as I recall.

I may have missed it in here but has anyone went from a 350 to the '24 KX 450 and regretted it? Thinking I'm gonna have to pull the trigger soon, they are selling out in my neck of the woods.

Has anyone done a vortex ecu with the stock pipe ?

I have done the stock muffler mods, filter cage, cut our airbox, side plate holes, chavez map, have been going back and forth between 50-52 rear sprockets, but I still am wanting / needing little more out of the gate.

I can get a pipe cheaper then a vortex, but if going to do one or the other want to do the best one first lol.

My apologies, it didn’t come in as expected. I’m going out this weekend.

I originally put a full pro circuit exhaust, airbox holes/removed plug & 51 tooth rear sprocket on and thought the bike was decent.

Now I added a Tokyo mods tuned vortex, running the max power tune & it’s amazing! Just what I wanted. Coming off Yamaha’s and Honda’s I was looking for more excitement and it delivered.

I have a 23 350sxf and a 24 kx450 and while I definitely don't regret the kx450 i don't think I'll be keeping it. It depends what sort of rider you are and what you ride but for doing pure moto the 350 is still more fun, safer and faster over long rough motos for me. I will say the 24 kx450 is definitely the best "450" I've ever ridden.

Same. My 24 kx 450 was my first 450 and it’s definitely a bit much. But the deal was just too hard to pass up on and at least try it out. If I could get a 350 for 7k I would have done that, hands down.

I did. Don't regret it for a minute. I like my 24 KX 450 much better than the 23 350 sx. I'm a bigger rider 6'1" 235 pounds. KX has the torque I need yet doesn't scare me like the new YZ 450F.  KX super smooth power, stable bike, that turns well. At least for me anyways.

How many hrs have you got on your 450? For the first 20 or so hrs I liked my kx450 better than the 350 but now im starting to get bored with the heavy feeling slow revving nature of the kx powerband. The new 350 on the other hand is alot snappier fast revving fun style of power. Again I think alot of it comes back to what rider and what sort of riding you do.

I'm an older Vet rider @ 57 years young. I still have my 2023 350 sxf. It's still a fun bike to ride. I just enjoy the "boring" power of the KX 450. I can do longer Moto's with less effort than my 350. Plus the added torque of the 450 helps me everywhere. I have added the Ti FMF 4.1 and the Twin air power flow kit to my bike. It's now perfect for me. Bone stock silencer and air filter were too restrictive.

That's the beauty of our sport, we have so many awesome bikes to choose from at the moment.

The only thing I still struggle to understand is when people say a 350 wears them out more than a 450. I ride both my 350 and 450 with the same level of aggression and I go faster on the 350. Both bikes ridden with the same level of aggression the 450 will always wear you out quicker than the 350.

And when I say same level of aggression I don't mean I ride them aggressively just at the same level.

I think it comes down to riding style.  If your more active on the bike/ fast twitch your going to like the 350 more most likely because if feels lighter, more nimble and wont tire you out as fast.  If you are more of a lugger and what I would call 'efficient' rider the 450 might not tire you out as much because you don't have to ride it as aggressive.

It's just knowing what you are.

Coming from a 350 to this 450 I will say I can ride “lazier” if I want or keep the same aggression. But glen helen is my home track, with that being said the 450 for me is much more suited to my riding style. I’m a 30C vet guy and when I screw up a corner which happens often the 450 recovery is much better than the 350. When you mess up a rut or turn at the bottom of the hill the 450 is more more rewarding to get back up to speed than the 350.

granted I had a 22 with a vortex, the 23+ is much more powerful but with the cost of the stiffer less slow guy compliant frame.

The stock fork oil volume (just like the previous generation) is 321ml.  On the previous generation bike, I was much happier after raising the fork oil volume to 370ml.  If I want to try this on the '24, is there any reason I couldn't just use a syringe to inject 50ml of fork fluid through the air bleed holes on the fork to accomplish this?

Adding 50cc in one shot into the bleed screw is not a good idea.  The bleed screws lead to the space in the inner cartridge that is above the compression assembly free piston.  You need the oil in the outer chamber, not the inner chamber.  Yes, the oil "should" eventually work its way through the bleed holes to the outer chamber as the fork cycles, but 50cc is a lot for this and could cause some hydraulic locking initially until it woks to the outer chamber.   Also, it is tedious to try to get that much oil in through the tiny bleed hole.  You could do 10cc, ride, repeat x5, but that's even more tedious.

Easiest thing to do, put bike on stand, loosen top pinch bolts, remove bar clamp nuts under the top clamp and pull the bars and clamps up and move them front out of the way.  Loosen the fork top caps, push down on the front end and the damping cartridges will come up and out of the forks.  Now you can add the 50cc directly to the outer chambers where it belongs.

I was thinking of adding oil also. Has anyone here tried it? I like the suspension stock but it does tend to blow through the last 3 inches pretty fast so far. Obviously if it’s my fault on timing a jump or something I have to do my job on the bike but I just would like some insurance on the the fork side for sure.

Have not tried this but will probably be soon. Front on 450x seems soft and will tuck quite a bit. I have to crank in the comp or run forks flush.

rear feels stiff? I’m 180 and free sag is over 40mm when set to 105mm rider sag.

I did have a gap where the rear fender and airbox meet. Might be the reason to all the dirt on the airfilter.

I talked to a suspension tuner about this, and he told me there is nothing wrong with adding  oil through the bleed hole.  If you don’t know how much to add, add 10 ml at a time to each leg until your bottoming is reduced or eliminated. This won’t do the same thing or take the place of a stiffer spring, however.

I find I stuff up corners alot less on the 350 than the 450 which is probably why I go faster on 350 🤣
