Sorry for going so far back but I was chatting with MxSxcollectables on instagram about the “Dungey and Lawerence ONE INDUSTRIES Gear ordeal in 2009” and wasn’t for sure on how all that stuff happened, I’m pretty sure someone in here knows the deal s
In 2008 Dungey was wearing Answer Gear and Lawerence was wearing Fly Gear but in 2009 Dungey was gonna be in One Industries Gear then Lawerence signed with One Industries too and Dungey didn’t like that and signed with Fox instead for 2009 season and Lawerence stayed with One Industries but what I don’t understand is just for a little bit Lawerence was in Fox gear before the 2009 season, Was jlaw in Fox then went to ONE and Dungey left ONE and picked up Jlaw Fox deal is that how that deal worked out?

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
JLaw was wearing fox helmets, gear, and boots in the off season in 08 before the 09 season. Saw him in it personally. His agent Scott must’ve got JLaw big money from ONE, probably because of the Monster influence I would think. On Gypsy tales, Scott says the deals he landed for JLaw like Monster, Boost Mobile, AMPM were big money deals and ONE and Monster had a bunch of collab stuff.
Was this from the sx track up in fallbrook? The Canidae Kawi (Bobby Hewitts team at the time) would ride up there too.
Yup, I took that photo
Nice, my pops built that track up there at Sean’s place 🤙🤙🤙🤙
In hindsight, good job One, really picked the right guy.
Dungey signed with One, then left when they signed JLaw.
Dungey went on to be one of the sports best and highly respected racers, One went out of business.
Pretty much how I remember it..... I still think he could have been there with the ryan's, but some guys just cant get out of their own way, and just dont want "it".
And in 2024 Jlaw is back and so is One.
I heard he's totally going to race a national, bro
Fun Fact: That's not actually JLaw in the photo. He failed to show up to the photoshoot, so the former sales/marketing manager had to fill in for him.
I more so meant that he's back riding, but judging by the downvotes people didn't get that
I assume J-Law was in Fox just because he wanted to wear it, or it was available, I don't think it was ever official.
That should have been around the time YOT folded, and they were figuring out how to keep JLaw on a Yamaha
If I remember correctly Peak MX Drama. Dungey threw a fit when he found out. I seem to remember a helmet being hucked out a door of the team rig.
Short version -
Dungey was to be ONEs marquee rider for 09/10
Scott Sepkovic was not only Lawerence’s agent but was also the man with the most influence over the Monster branding/licensee deals.
At the time, ONE had the majority of Monster Licensed apparel and that apparel was hand over fist ONEs largest revenue generator. The sales orders for monster branded apparel for tiny mom and pop stores would make even the biggest box stores blush today….
So with that said, Scott wanted J-Law in ONE and if the cash cow that was Monster apparel was going to stay with ONE, that deal needed to happen.
It’s easy to look back and say “look what happened, they picked the wrong guy”.
No, no they didn’t, at least not at the time. Dungey was NOT the Dungey we know today back in 2009. No titles, no massive following, certainly no legendary status….
ONE had the option to satiate a rider whom was a title hopeful, or satiate the guy that was in charge of their #1 revenue generator (by a mile)…..that was not a difficult decision when you looked at the spreadsheets.
Pit Row
The amount of ONE Monster shirts and sweatshirts we sold at the shop I worked at was actually insane. We couldn't keep it in stock.
J law is racing a LL regional this weekend. He might be back at LL in +25
When Chicken was racing in Japan he didn’t show up for a team shoot so they used a full size cardboard cutout of him instead.
I don't know about how it all went down, but I worked at One starting in late 2010. The word among the employees was that we were glad Dungey left. His bonus structure would have bankrupted the company. I guess he had big win bonuses and gigantic championship bonuses. Nobody thought he was going to win that much at the time he was signed.
What a rock star move
