He's also shown that he's not too different than those he has often criticized. Jlaw mixes it up in the racing line while RV usually looks to have altered course 4' whenever he's the aggressor in something, and my current favorite, he talks about "when" and not if Mike Alessi will get hurt.

I will provide a counterpoint to FTE's last race comment with regards to the strategy issue.

Last year, Reed waited until the last race it was too late. StL was the perfect time to make that move because it might actually work.

So by now the takeout that RV did to RD at st.louis is bascially infamous.

All ive been hearing since sunday morning is that the take-out was to "dirty" er that it was a cheapshot.

Yeah that move may have been a tad on the dirty side but, come on guys, that was for the f'ing championship! Had RV taken out RD without taking himself out, and not endoed over the triple, that point spread after that race could have been huge.

Had it gone down that way, which im sure thats what RV had in mind while doing it, it would have been a million dollar take-out...literally! (im just guessing thats the bonus for him to win a championship through all of his sponserships)

So yeah it may have been alittle dirty...... But its hard to say that anything, short of brake-checking someone off a triple, is to dirty when the championship is on the line.

Just curious if anyone agrees er if im on my own on this one

thanks for reading,
Moscrop
I really agree with Bobby on that one (not the "stupid" comment of course, but you guys are buds I presume), I don't think it was too early in the series, with 4 races to go at that point, when every point counts. Especially every mental points. He showed RD hes was there and was ready to fight for it. Finally we had some action between the 2 title contenders.

Bullshit Bob. Stop taking shit. You reamed Langston over and over here for his awesome pass on Alessi a few years back at the opening round at Hangtown, and that was a last corner pass for the win.

Here, RV put himself into a position to pass RD cleanly in the race, which would have been every bit as much of a psychological blow as knocking him down. What was there, half the race left? Did it drop Dungey way down the pack? Hell he could have stood him up rather than knock him down in that corner and had the same advantage.

The point isn't that it was "dirty," but that it risked damage to RV or his bike and that it wasn't necesary to take that risk at that poin t. That was exactly the reasoning for which you shit all over Langston back when he took both himself and Alessi out.

But I guess that wasn't the point; you were just talking crap because he took a swing at your boy.

The Reed at Vegas last year example someone raised applies only because Reed didn't actually knock Stewart down, which he needed to do at that race to put Stewart back in points. He needed to park Stewart there like RV parked RD last Saturday. He didn't. In this case, it wasn't the last round

The object of a take out to gain yourself points is not to take yourself out, but to put the other guy down and way behind you. That's a two-part deal: take the other guy out, don't take yourself out. There's always a high risk you will take yourself out.

RV wasnt trying to park anyone, he clearly saw opening and try to take advantage of it. im not trying to sat what Rd should have done but if he would have stayed up high instead of turn down they both would have not gone down. just looked like banging bars to me. heres a takeout move http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46_dfuZzVlY

Laughing .....I love it... I like 'em both. Esp the Dunge-basically because he's such an approachable, polite young man and always takes the high road. But, the more I watch that pass...the more I'm comvinced RV intended to just pull off a surprise, high speed zap on Dungey, but RD turned down sooner than RV could get by-and it went wrong. IOWs, RV got a bit overzealous in those few seconds. WOW what-an-aggressive-move though... I guess I just don't understand this business of running somebody up and over or off the track to get around them, like some of you guys talking about-and approve of. When I raced, I always thought if a guy can't get around cleanly, don't run the risk of taking him and yourself out! Now you just may have to dive in and STUFF him in a corner-by outbraking him...but I just don't like this business of parking somebody, or trying to take somebody out. In my book, that's straight up bullshit. Just another opinion...who cares. By the way FTE...I've intended to mention to you that I sure enjoyed your link to those old school pics of the big boys back in the day! Thanks!Cheerful

I don't think RV would have made that corner even if Dungey wasn't there. He WFO'ed about 5 bikes lengths before he hit him. Wouldn't do that if you was going to make the corner.

I have to agree. You do it in the last round so the other guy can't retaliate. Wink

It applies because it was too late to do anything about the points lead Stewart had. Stewart didn't have to race for the win, meaning he could roll around the track and make it virtually impossible for Reed to take him out.

From a strategy standpoint, if you wait until the last round, it may be too late to execute.

I'm not saying I think it was smart, but, if you think you want to take someone out to get a shot at winning the title, you do it when the opportunity is there.

I thought it was a perfect time to take advantage of the opening left by Dungey. If he's successful, there was a good chance he leaves St. Louis with the points lead or maybe gains another 3 points if he held the lead.

Pass attempt wasn't too much different than many others have taken, some take riders out, some leave both riders on the ground, some leave both riders up, and some take themselves out.

Good racing and I'm a fan of both the Ryan's.

Any of you smart guys recall that Villo lost the East title last year at St. Louis when it "appeared" that Trey Canard forced him off the track? Maybe he came into the dome saying "tonight's MY night... for a change!"

Bad decision, either way.

Bad decision? Why? Would peoples opinions change if he did the same move, took no one down and finished ahead of RD? Would they change if RV took 1st and RD got mired back to 7th or so and came out with the points lead?

Hindsight, a winner every time.

my mom's sister's best friends step brother told me that RV didnt try to take him out his front brake suddenly stopped working and was only fixed once he hit RD. I heard that RV was even polite enough to yell LOOK OUT! before hitting dungey. So I think the crash is acutally dungey's fault.

I mentioned it in another thread, but...

Apparently Ryan was having an issue with his goggles, and was getting dirt in his eyes. From what I hear, that was part of the reason why he went for the pass when the opportunity presented itself.
