Wow, is that a layer of sand spread around the entire track pretty much? Looks pretty sweet, and looks like it will be really fast before it gets rough!
Always one of my favorite tracks! Glad to see the booter is back and the sand should be interesting. The changes to the downhill off chamber left turn hopefully will open up that section a little, it’s always been very tight going through there
Its horrible for viewing, went there last year, and i have like a more than dozen nationals Unadilla,Red bub.you name it
and there are fences all over the track,at least at Pala you can watch the riders closely

Dang, now that’s a solid investment into bettering a track, that is a lot of sand trucked in! Place looks jumpy for sure. The big booter looks a bit smaller than before when it was 150’ so maybe 100’?
Place looks awesome, excited for the weekend!
Is it just me or does it look as hot as the sun in those pics?
Not just you, it’s going to be a warm one for sure.
Now THAT looks like a fun track, can't wait to try it out on amateur day then have the pros show me just how bad I suck on Saturday
.
I wish I could say 87 was warm.
I'm just down the road and it hasn't gotten hot yet. I finally see triple digits coming next week but anything sub 90 degrees is not hot.
It was 94 Monday when we were riding. Even that was manageable compared to the 102 ride days last summer. Unloading the bikes at 8:30am and it was already 92. Any highs above 98 and I’m out this summer.
I guess it’s all relative because I would probably suffer from heat exhaustion at those temps but am totally comfortable running in 0f. Even did a couple runs at -10f this winter.
If you can handle that kind of heat and exposure, more power to ya!
Oh no, I’ve summoned the “you think that temperature is hot/cold” people. I’m sorry.
Unavoidable unfortunately
I'll give your grammar a pass since I don't think English is your first language, BUT your facts are also nonsense. Can you get super close to the track in a lot of places? No. Can you see the vast majority of the track from many different spots on the hills? Yes.
I guess if being 10' feet closer to the riders is more important than seeing almost the entire race track, it does suck.
Dude, WTF are you talking about. Washougal is terrible for viewing, Hangtown could not be any better. You can see 90% of the track from like everywhere!
Wow almost looks like a whole new facility.
I’ve always hated Hangtown. Growing up 15 minutes away and racing there my entire childhood I always thought it was the driest, hottest biggest crap hole in a field that’s ever existed. But, it was always great to go up by the big double at the top of the hill to sit where you can see dang near the entire track. It’s just so ugly, and at least when I was racing on it it was so hard packed, Like riding on concrete. I always just wanted to go to Turlock, Marysville, Livermore, etc.
I wish they would get rid of it, take it off the circuit, but unless someone buys the land out there, I’m sure it’ll stay
Pit Row
I know you think you're funny but you wait until it's hotter than a billy goat with a blow torch, then we'll see who's cracking jokes!
Man that track looks fun! They have put in a lot of work there. Looking good!
It's all relative... I was just in Maui and 80 degrees feels considerably hotter than 80 in Sacramento. I grew up in Redding, CA where it hits 105 to 110 on the regular and I was choking on the early morning heat (actually the humidity) in Oklahoma when I was in the military. So yeah, 87 is not "hot" in Sac. Though it is close.
Keep in mind Hangtown is literally in the middle of a dirt pit that radiates heat, if the temperature is 86 in the surrounding towns it’s likely close to 100 down at the actual track. Throw in the humidity from the water on the track and it can be miserably hot out there even in sub triple digits.
this is accurate. they should ban EZups along the fences you cant see shit unless you get there early and camp out in one spot.
These dustbowl Cali tracks always look sad, even with the signage up on race day they look sad.
No, I get it. We get 90% humidity 90 degree days in the summer and -30 degree winters here as well. It's just funny and honestly kind of strange how whenever you mention heat, cold or any sort of weather, there's always a group of people that want to brag how much gnarlier their weather is.
90 degrees in the sun is still warm, I don't care if you dig ditches in 110 degrees during the summer. Like what are we suppose to say to them? "Cool dude, you've been outside in a hotter temp. Congrats, very proud of you. They should probably wear snow coats this weekend!"
Track looks great and there’s been some awesome races there over the years.
However forgive my ignorance with not knowing the area, but around the track looks like a moonscape!
Is it usually that bad? Is it extra dry there?
What's up Josh! I remember in the morning right after prep it was always ripped pretty deep and bogged down our mini bikes but 1-2 hours later it was hard as concrete and you could see tire marks in some turns, most of my injuries came from there. I came up just a hair short on that uphill double once clipping my back wheel and next thing I remember I was sitting on the couch at home lol. It was the worst dirt around for sure, I think Livermore was by far the best. We spun so many laps out at Hangtown to this day I can remember every inch of that old layout. This revamped layout and dirt looks incredible though I wish it was like that back when we raced.
Did we race in the same class out at Hangtown? I mostly remember us riding together at Marysville.
From what I remember growing up Hangtown became a privately owned track in the middle of a state owned OHV park. When I was a little kid the state also ran the track and once a year for Hangtown they would shut it down for a couple weeks for the Dirt Diggers North club to come do all the track prep. That was the best time of year to ride it was the 1-2 weeks after the big race when it was still relatively decent but then went back to a super dry blue groove track. They had a water truck come by on Sunday mornings to drench it wet and if you were lucky they'd come back for a 2nd pass around 1pm but it just made it super slick putting water on top of such a hard packed track. We usually packed up and went home by then. The whole rest of the park has a couple vet/amateur and kids tracks the state maintains that rarely see water. The park also has a bunch of trails and a few on road cart tracks. About 15 years ago they had a BMX track near the park entrance that was abandoned and became a 1/8 Nitro R/C car track that was absolutely awesome but the park apparently wanted too much to rent it out so that only lasted a couple years.
Cali tracks and high elevation dirt is garbage. I cant stand these SX races at high elevation bc they just cant keep moisture in the dirt.
That being said, this is why this revamp looks so badass, even if it blows away after qualifying.
Am I the only one who is a little confused by the people who run this sport's infatuation with sand?
