He's wrong.

'Bangers & Mash' is Cash.

Brexit means we are no longer part of the European Union, for trade and border purposes, although our 20 mile sea border is as much use as your southern border, when there is no intent to defend it.

I dunno, plenty of them are making the journey look pretty easy.

'MUDAL'

Mutton Dressed As Lamb.

Yup - quite appropriate when I've tried 'Lamb' in the USA.

But, nowadays I hear more often, that term used cruelly, when describing  some 'Cougars' .

With Tommy back down to a 250 day in day out, he's a good fit for the 250 at MXdN.

Tough to ignore Ben Watson, Max always gives 100%, and Deano would be on a last hurrah kinda kick so maybe he would have some extra fire? Conrad Mewse or Josh Gilbert would likely rise to the occasion too if needed, both are badasses.

The motocross community here absolutely lives for it, but our country as a whole hates motocross or anything which makes any noise or dust or generally brings anyone else happiness. So I get why we don't produce more elite talent nowadays, shame.

I've been into mx for over 40 years and the rest of the country hated mx back then too. I think it's more to do with riders choosing to stay in the UK and earn money/not spend tons doing the GP's for no reward. That's understandable, but all that has happened is that our top guys have settled into a pace that wins at home but doesn't cut it at world level. Mewse and Gilbert looked great at home all last year and were absolutely nowhere at the MXDN.

Also, back in the 80's and 90's we had stand-out riders like Noyce, Thorpe and Nicoll who fought hard and won at the GP's and raised the standard of the UK riders coming through behind them who wanted to emulate them. There's nobody in UK mx who's leading the way as an example now. UK riders now prefer to be a bigger fish in a tiny pond, and seeing our top guys doing this isn't helping change attitudes.

This is the road Canadian MX has gone down for the last twenty years. Canadians only race other Canadians … about ten times a year . It’s not a recipe for achieving success on the global scale.

Mewse, Max & Watson .

It doesn’t really matter what the team is the only way the Brit team is getting near the podium is if they help load it in the van at the end of the day .

MX in the UK is a complete joke and has been for a long time.

Shame, I raced 250 nationals & 500 support in the ‘80’s and back then at least half the field were GP guys and most had scored points, now the “ British Nationals” is just a few old ex GP guys and a bunch of regional weekend warriors with the odd exception ( Gilbert etc) .

There used to be what, 120 back in the 80s?

WTH is wrong with the sport?

British Championship races in general are struggling with entries.. Enduro is the same....

No joke, my old man used to eat a left over Yorkshire pudding with golden syrup... Fair enough really, starts off vaguely similar to pancake batter.

Yeah a lot of our food is gross and a lot of our teeth are fucked, some stereotypes are legit, but actual chips (not crisps) beat those skinny little french fries all day long.

On topic, little Bill isn't a bad shout at all for the 250 spot, would be good experience for the lad.

It isnt that they only race British riders,  there are 4 series all going after the same riders,  One is the proper British Championship, and the others are just meaningless as far as being a Pro goes.

There is no shortage of riders, but there is a shortage of racers, and there is a mass of riders who wont ride outside of their comfort zone, despite spending winters riding in Spain.

There are 10 good Pro level riders in the UK now, and maybe 50 who are proper fast, split over MX1 & MX2 .

We need to go back to better local races, scrap meaningless nationals, and get rider numbers up.  And then maybe the British will be a properly supported series.

Dude...a Yorkshire pud is as close to a pancake as a pancake is to a crepe.  I wouldn't put gravy on a pancake or crepe but a Yorkshire DEMANDS it.Silly

Having said that...I owned a food trailer at one time.  Our main thing was Indian Tacos.  The fry bread we made was pretty damn close to a Yorkshire.  We sold a lot of fry bread with honey or fruit vs the chili fixin's.  So I reckon fried bread is good no matter what.Wink

Realistically, you Brits are punching way above your weight.  Turned out some fast bastards to be sure but damn...how many tracks in the whole country...and how many of those are open 7 days a week?  That means only those wealthy enough to have a private track or have a friend with one can get in the seat time to hone talent.  Gotta ride to get good.Smile

With the Nora cup, I think the plan is to make a proper series, with proper tracks and eventually go to France and Belgium with it. They are hoping to start producing good talent again.

Man, tracks being open 7 days a week here is just a dream. *Edit. Unless you're hooked up like Phil or select pros I guess?

The best it gets is being open most Saturdays and Sundays and sometimes Wednesday afternoon if we're lucky.

Private hire is an option sometimes, more often for the fast and well supported guys. Private tracks are still a thing, just about, but it's not easy or hassle free.

A lot of tracks only open one day of the weekend or even one day of a fortnight or month. There is a good track nearby that can open three or four times a year.

Not all doom and gloom, but it is a little limited.

I can ride 7 tracks within an hour of home, probably, a few more than that , but have 3 within 20 mins that open often enough for me to ride 5 days a week if i  want to .

The Pro's have access to private tracks, i used to have access to one that most of the top guys used in the week, Tommy Searle's place is just up the road about 40 mins, but you have to be in the clique to get on there.

Like the US, guys share tracks, but the 'bustin out laps at the compound' thing isnt how it works here.

We have 2 guys now who are prospects, Bobby Bruce , and Billy Askew.

Back in the day , i have raced against Factory guys on a monday, who rode a GP the day before.   Full grid of 40, 15 GP regulars, loads of good Pro's and the likes of me who were 'fast (ish) ' locals with an Expert license.  I went faster than i ever have for 34-32 or summat.

Now there is a 40 rider gate at Canada Heights. with 15 spaces on it, with Jeffrey Herlings on it, this weekend, and the slowest guy there might bag points with enough DNF's.  That we cant put a full gate out when the best rider of this generation shows up is fucking shameful.

If i was 28 and not 58, i would be wanting to be on it, back then i wouldnt have ever got the chance.

I watched ( and commentated on) our current crop of GP riders coming through from 85's, and its sad that we dont have that level any more.

Hasn't that already disappeared? They had one round then it fizzled out. I could be wrong.

Be careful there, a LOT of US food is gross too. The chemicals and sugar in it is off the charts and if it isn’t drowning in butter or cheese it’s probably fried.

That was pretty much my memory.  I had a buddy with a private track at Garboldisham and I could ride the sand pits nr Lakenheath but not much else.  I think Mildenhall has a decent track now.  From what Phil says there's more options just no "racers".

You ain't lyin'.  I joke about how during the dust bowl the ranchers would pour molasses on sawdust because there was no cattle feed.  Cows are junkies for sugar.  Now the food companies put sugar or some sweet chemical in almost everything cause it turns out... humans are just like cows.Silly

No shit?  That's more track availability than I would have thought in this day and age.  Do you guys still operate on the club system?

The problem is, of all those places to ride, only 1 of them actually holds races.

We need more racing and less pissing about for 'the gram' .

I havent had any 'hook ups' like that in a long long time, and maybe the reason why there is less 'local' racing is the lack of decent tracks.

What tracks we do have , are overused by lots of different organisations.

I contemplated trying to get our local club back to running races, but honestly, my idea of what MX needs to be to survive, and what the modern riders 'demand' is a polar opposite.

I suspect the economy here, there, every where has a lot to do it.  Hobbies are the first to get axed when the necessities are hard to come by.  It'll get better...or it won't.Blush
