He couldnt win a local race on sunday LOL.
He was born in England.
Mewse, Max & Watson .
It doesn’t really matter what the team is the only way the Brit team is getting near the podium is if they help load it in the van at the end of the day .
MX in the UK is a complete joke and has been for a long time.
Shame, I raced 250 nationals & 500 support in the ‘80’s and back then at least half the field were GP guys and most had scored points, now the “ British Nationals” is just a few old ex GP guys and a bunch of regional weekend warriors with the odd exception ( Gilbert etc) .
MXLarge are listing just 21 entries in 450s for the next British championship at Canada Heights.
There used to be what, 120 back in the 80s?
WTH is wrong with the sport?
Be good to see Herlings at my local track.
Question for the Brits...what exactly is bangers and mash...Keith Richards loves it..
Sausages and mashed potato with onions and gravy.
Nobody wants to race for 20th any more.
Back in the day you had 80 guys trying for 40 spots in the support, to win the right to be last in the main series, if they made the top 3 .
Too many meaningless championships, everyone wants to be a big fish in a little pond.
Yeah - you’d have the top 40 then 80 + guys in the support class.
250’s I think the top 10 we’re auto seeded each round then you’d have 3 full gates of heat races in the morning trying to make the mains. So that’s 130 guys.
Everyone that showed up at Brit Champs had put their time in to get their expert (pro) points back then. For the supports by late 80’s / early 90’s you had to do a 3 round series just to be accepted to the support championship.
So If you even lined up in the Support class back then you’d gone through all the above to earn the right to sit behind that start gate and were a seriously decent rider. Then of course the top 40 were on a whole other level ..
I can remember lining up for mains at 250 Brit Champs, looking down the gate and realizing nearly half the field were doing the GP’s and most had scored at least the odd point .
And Northern Ireland, although even riders who identify as British still ride for Ireland.
Not correct. England, Scotland and Wales = Great Britain.
England, Scotland, Wales and NI = United Kingdom.
Add in Ireland and you have the British Isles.
Ok... thanks...I heard multiple stories on it...last I heard it was same as Shepard's pie...
Yeah you're right, I have a bad habit of using UK and GB interchangeably. I can see why American's are sometimes confused
Same problem in 2024 France Elite 450 MX championship...
Pit Row
Phil...did Brexit mean that England is no longer considered "Europe"? Or did you just mean you were racing on the continent? Clue me lad.
And just like shepherd's pie...if made correctly...fucking delicious.
Side note...for the first time in my life, lamb is now cheaper than beef. Not the 2 year old American mutton crap they call lamb but the less than 12 month old Aussie/NZ babies. If you haven't tried lamb chops on the grill (seasoned just like a steak) you're missin' a treat.
Completely different. Bangers and mash is sausages (links) served with mashed potatoes and gravy, shepherds pie is minced lamb, peas and carrots served topped with mashed potato that is baked in the oven and browned on top.
A classic error in the US seems to be that if you order shepherds pie the meat is beef, which should be called cottage pie. Shepherds pie is sheep, hence being called shepherds because they herd sheep :-)
I will never understand why lamb is so hard to find in the US and so rarely (scarcely not cook temp) eaten, it’s soooo much tastier than beef.
To us here in England, we are an island nation, Europe, is the European mainland.
Brexit means we are no longer part of the European Union, for trade and border purposes, although our 20 mile sea border is as much use as your southern border, when there is no intent to defend it.
Somewhat easier to hop over the southern border than navigate the worlds busiest shipping lane in an inflatable though!
Well, I asked because we were taught that England was part of Europe. I lived in England for 7 years, my wife is British and my 2 oldest were born there. I never heard a Brit say they weren't "European"...they just referred to the rest as the "continent". I was just wondering if since Brexit y'all were "identifying" differently?
I haven't made it to Britain yet, but had bangers & mash, and some awesome meat pies in NZ this past Feb. Good stuff. Looking forward to trying the original British recipes! And back on subject, Nicholl, Thorpe & Malin in Britain? THAT would be just too cool!!! Bet they'd beat Team Guam!
I'll try to be brief. All the yanks stationed in England during WW2 got a taste of British lamb and came home praising it. The went to the butcher got some "lamb"...took it home, cooked it up and was hated by everyone.
The problem is that in the UK, Aus, NZ "lamb" has to be 12 months old or less. Here in the states it's still considered lamb up to 2 years old. Bullshit...that's mutton. That's why we pour mint sauce on it...cause it's gamey and fucking nasty.
"Lamb" has a completely different taste to mutton.
Meat is sold by weight. The sheep people want to maximize profit so they lobbied for that 2 year deal. They really only shot themselves in the foot cause nobody with taste buds will eat a 2 year old sheep and prefer it to real "lamb".
That’s very interesting if that’s true. Certainly explains a lot. Lamb here is awful!
I can tell you for true. I was fed American "lamb" here in the states and it is disgusting. It wasn't till I had young lamb in England that I understood the difference.
Kinda the same with pig and hog. The USDA used to say that 185lbs was the cutoff. I think it's over 200 now. After 185lbs a pig just puts on fat mostly. The pig farmers wanted more profit so they lobbied to have the limit raised. Now we pay for that fat we aren't gonna eat.
The best British sausage dish is Toad In The Hole. Bangers in a Yorkshire pudding. If you haven't had Yorkshire pudding you haven't lived.
