We like CP in this household. I love to watch him ride and my girlfriend thinks he's hot and likes his accent. Not to mention he's a total animal to come back from the injury he sustained and be doing what he's doing. Can't wait to see him in the outdoors here in Texas...
hahaha. Most impressive part is your girlfriend sits down watching MX long enough to get to the podium speeches!

I like Pourcels, everyone in the press I talk to likes him too. His speechs are bland and it doesnt resinate with the average American fan so they dont cheer for him.

I go to races overseas and watch American riders get interviewed IN ENGLISH, and respond IN ENGLISH, only to be translated by the announcer

CP comes here and is being interviewed in a language foreign to him and responding in a language foreign to him....American's don't do that overseas

You don't see the Americans at the Geneva or Bercy races being interviewed and responding in French

You don't see the American's at the German races speaking in German.

To give CP shit because his interviews aren't up to your standards is bullshit. At least he tries.

Can't say the same for some of our own when they travel overseas.

Can't even say the same for a majority of our American tourists when they travel overseas

I talked to him about Stroupe's crash, and he said, "No one wants to win like that."

If you spend any time getting to know him, he's a pretty funny guy. I'm sure to a certain point he has his guard up. If you can get beyond that, that's when you start figuring out what he's really like.

Other than that he seems like a decent guy, and no one can deny that he is incredible rider... So why then the cold response in the stadium last night when he won the race and was crowned champion? Josh Demuth got a bigger cheer when he was introduced as AX champion....

Ya his personality is really starting to come out which is awesome.

I think he gets the arrogant lable because

1. He's french
2. When he first came to the US he was pretty quiet and shy and some people translate that into arrogant. (Not sure why, but they do)

Dethrones Bubba?? From what, the king of reality TV?? That's the only throne Bubba has a chance of having when CP moves up. He may dethrone RV or RD(with CPs skills it's possible) but it's looking like Bubba already has been dethroned from SX and it remains to be seen if he'll even try to get the throne in MX.

People Boo and Cheer for the same rider in stadiums, shit most people are to drunk to care, and it's just natural to root for the home team (america), and not for the (foreign), or opposing team, it's as simple as that.

Here's the thing. CP reminds me of Jean Girard from Talladega Nights. Just kind of a weird little Frenchy dude. He's a hell of a rider, tons of respect for his ability on a bike. But as for liking or not liking riders, I'm not gonna like a little odd french dude. I can assure you most Texans won't either.

I work in Europe a lot (As well as many other countries around the world). I personally can't stand the French. They are the empitome of arrogant boobs. I love the Dutch, Brits, Italians, and Germans but I can live without the French. Its a simple as that for me.

I thought the podium speech and #1 plate presentation was on the bland side. Pourcel pretending to take three or four sips from an empty aluminum can during the presentation was also a litte bit off beat. Other than that, Pourcel put on an SX riding clinic!

Pourcel is Great I watch for his riding not the podium speech . I think he has a good chance at being the "fastest man on the planet" in years to come if not sooner.

He is soft spoken, and beating the shit out of "our" guys. Im not at all suprised people dont like him. Reed had to win the fans over, DV12 didnt start out beloved like he was towards the end ect. But we have also had some riders (a couple from South Africa come to mind) that we loved from the get go. And fact is, alot of Americans dont like the French, just like alot of the French dont like Americans. If he keeps winning then he will have more fans then he will know what to do with. As someone pointed out, he has far more personality in the Transworld videos then on tv and I think once he settles in over here he will become very popular.

There's only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch.

generalizing an entire country, good job... every country has tools and fuckwits and every country has people you love to be around

There's some true in that the french are arrogant. Sure you can't generalize but being one I can tell you that a lot of people back home are taking themselves way too seriously. That's what I like the most about living in Canada (besides the big playground), people are so easy going, just happy to meet you, not bragging all the time.

On the other hand americans should realize that it's the US medias who drive people not to like us. They don't want to admit Irak war is wrong, and they don't want citizens looking up too much at our advanced social system.

This is where I see the US is behind in the whole reception of other great riders... My time over in Europe was amazing, with how the English and Eurpeans accepted me and cheered for me. In the US everyone hates to see another rider over here winning or even doing well. In many ways its sad that we are that stubborn and snobbish not to relish the fact that we have some of the best racing with foreigners here and doing well.

Are you nuts?

Reed has had more hate threads on Vital then anyone.

But that calmed down since your guys started to do the whole SX only thing, just like Reed did.

Am I nuts? Nope. Reed has always had huge amounts of fans, and with that, comes the opposite too.

I think Stewart has more hate threads anyway. Or maybe that's JLaw?

Anyway. I don't dislike or like the guy yet, just indifferent. Awesome rider and a smooth style. Then again, he should be beating the lites guys, being a previous GP champ and ya know, they say that's the worlds best series and all.

It`s all about accent. When I lived in US I could speak with no or little accent and americans treated me like equal, but it changed when they found out that I`m not american.

He did send a hello to Stroupe on the podium and said he does not like to win like that and wants to race it out. He is a great racer and i am in it for the racing. Trying to judge a persons personality while they are giving a 12 second podium speech and a guy is giving you signals to say this or that and sip your energy drink all while not even speaking the language has got to be tough. The guy is a racer and a great one at that. We are always hoping new guys will come up and add to the racing action and we got a special one with this kid so we should be happy for the entertainment. Let's talk racing not persona perceptions.

Some of you have got me wrong, I really like Pourcel and have been pulling for him since he arrived in the US... All that I meant was that I can see how people would be pissed off with his podium interviews which could be taken as arrogance. I've seen other interviews with him (where he's not in front of a massive stadium crowd or on TV) and he comes across great - hence why I like the guy.

That wasn't the point of this post anyhoo, I was just asking why he got a cool reception when he won. We are staying with a texan family right now and to say they are proud of their state would be an understatement, so i'm going to put it down to local pride being the reason for the lack of cheers...

So he just come off a SX track (in Texas) where focus and concentration allows no room for errors and now his heart rate is finally dropping to about 160 beats a minute and he gets asked a question in a foreign language....?

Yeah and so maybe his answers aren't the best - and not everyone will put that down to the factors you just mentioned and hence may dislike pourcel because of it. At least that's the only reason I can think of why people may not like him... But as has been said you can't blame him for it so not exactly grounds to dislike the guy
