I haven’t read through the whole thread yet so sorry if someone already said this. I honestly feel like WSX could have been great and was a real threat to feld and the ama SX series with a few years under its belt. Then feld/ama/mx sports panicked and threw together the SMX package because they KNEW they were going to lose riders and riders = money. Unfortunately for the riders/teams it’s easier to just stay in the US and keep running the same program now that the money has increased. Kind of like that wife that you have to threaten with divorce to get anything to change but it never really changes in the long run things only get better for a while. While I feel like WSX really had an interest in probiding a series that could allow significant profitability to the riders and teams. Feld just threw money at it to keep the riders and won’t keep trying to progress their income or pave a way for teams to make money. We’ll see if it takes another 50 years for them to make another change.

This has been disputed and proven wrong over and over...SMX was already far into the works in development of the SMX series way prior to the announcement of WSX. Feld dropped FIM in preparation for SMX more than a year before WSX was announced, MXSports did a one year streaming deal with MAV TV to get their streaming contract aligned with Feld and they had meetings with NBC to help create the idea. All this was done way prior to WSX...

I think you are reinventing history on some of this. MX Sports didn’t go to MAV to get the streaming aligned they did it because they were the highest bidder. After it failed miserably they aligned with Peacock.

Wrongo...They did it so they could go to networks to bid together, to do so MXSports had to have a one year deal so they would be on the same contract schedule as SX/Feld

I still want to know what happened at that  meeting that WSX Group had with the KTM group, apparently it went very bad as Adam Bailey said in multiple interviews, but, and I guess the meetings they had with Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki were also bad, no support from any of them.

Mitch said on a PulpMX interview a long time ago that he liked the idea, but he didn't have enough budget to make it work, i guess Mitch has been in the game long enough to know when thinks can work or not, and he knows that in order to make things work is not the idea, is how you present and make that idea a reality

Their biggest issue was trying to do too much too soon. They should have went after P10-20 guys and not US podium level riders IMO.

They put themselves in a jam right away by claiming it was the premiere sx championship, when they make that claim they have to try to get top riders. Had they taken the route you suggest and built slowly maybe it could have worked but they would have struggled to sell tickets.

Yeah it wasn't the best place to be in for them. I think they could have had a good draw with some mid-tier SX guys though. They really only had one All-star anyway. Tough look when they go "We're the premiere championship and we want the best riders!" and all of the best riders say no.

Why can't the FIM just consolidate existing successful off-season races, perhaps a couple of the Australian rounds, add one or two and consider it a World SX championship?

Because the successful off-season races have no interest in getting together and paying the FIM a boatload of money just to get a world championship label no one cares about -and that Feld and MX Sports decided to use for free without asking anyone.

Don is correct.  SX had one more year on their contract so MX Sports utilized MavTV (owned by Lucas Oil who is a huge supporter of the outdoors and owns the Indiana track) to allow the contract timing to align with SX.  MavTV turned out to be a disaster, but that has nothing to do with the timing.

Lucas owns Ironman? I really gotta start buying some Lucas shit then. They also own a dirt and asphalt short track somewhere out there.

It's easy to put the blame other people. WSX continued to do some idiotic stuff after the other fella went away, Bailey is definitely not without a significant part of the "blamepie" of why this whole thing failed.

Either way, i doubt anyone will try to do something similar on a global level again in a very long time which is a shame for fans and riders.

FIM is not going to let the world supercross license sit idle for long, someone will pay for it. I think they'll stay closer to home and chose a European promoter this time.

Even if someone picks it up, they would have a Mount Everest to climb with baggage that SX Global left behind them.

Maybe someone tries again 3-5 years from now when the dust has settled and people have forgot about the shit show that WSX turned into.

I sure hope Roczen got paid upfront (doubtful). If I was him, I would be singing a very loud rendition of "BIT%& BETTER HAVE MY MONEY" to whoever is in charge of WSX at the moment.

Well, as of yesterday they were actively trying to sign guys for the 2024 season.

That's a good indication that they have not just folded up and moved on, right?

I have a new contact there too, so the organization appears to be pushing on.

Kinda surprising nobody got paid in WSXCoin given the way this series was run.

LOL... 4-5 months out from when the supposed schedule would be, and they don't have teams or riders lined up to race it yet? What a joke..

If they are trying to sign riders then I guess the team thing is history(along with the money)....trying seems to be the key word here....they will have to pay the riders upfront to get anybody to show...
