Man I have to say I was really surprised at what happened today. I really thought Cooper would get stronger in the second half of the race and likely hang on to second. The dust up with ElHombre had to be really depressing for him. The fat lady is warming up her vocal chords.

I don't agree. Wheels are in place.
Anything can happen and Webb is usually there when it does.
Webb like Tomac and Anderson are all great racers still. Jett is clearly the best racer going right now and Sexton is another that can compete. Just like Mc Grath, RC, Stew and Dungey and RV someone has to be the fastest. Until someone comes along to knock Jett off it will be him.
Wheels aren't off, but I did kind of think that he was thinking everyone else outside of Jett was going to lay up and let the two of them race. He was wrong. Ando and Chase are riding for points and position.
Yes, Webb needs jett to make a mistake, as it looks like Webb can't straight up catch n pass jet

It's true - Webb doesn't have Jett speed, doesn't mean he's out. I do not think Webb has ever been the fastest man in a 450 series, BUT - he has 2 championships.
Prado comes over next year, if he gets the kawi figured out for outdoors, and gets the speed from mxgp, him and jett will be battling it out.
Did they ever run against each other before?
Maybe mxon, not too sure, I know eli beat jett in 2022 at mxon.
Webb is great at taking advantage of race circumstances, at race strategies, race craft, head to head racing and adapting to breaking down tracks. All those positives hide his tiny lack of speed/technique compare to a Jett, Sexton, Tomac (when he's hot but has been on fire or freezing this season) or even an Anderson when he's not a lightning rod of short sticks. He wins A2 with a 2-2-5 score. Gets second in St Louis with a 5-6-2 score. He wins Dallas when Jett crashed in the last lap. He's making everyone pays for their mistakes but rarely wins like a Jett or a Tomac when they're untouchable... He very rarely wins with the fastest time in the main.
With normal circumstances, in terms of speed/technique, he's 3rd best this year, behind Jett, Sexton and maybe 4th with Eli (when tracks allow his bike to show the best of himself). I really think Cooper is overperforming his actual level this season, because again, he has that thing to be there at the right time/place. When he can't capitalize on others mistakes/bad starts, outsmarting others with lines (his short insides) and jumping whoops (tonight, skimming was way faster clearly), you get a performance like tonight where Jett, Chase and Jason were better.
I don't think wheels are coming off the wagon. I think people had the illusion the wagon was too nice.
BUT, he's gonna fight until the end and this thing isn't over. If he gets favorable circumstances again in the last 2 races, he will capitalize on them and give Jett a run for his money if Jett doesn't execute like he knows how...
Again, my has been 2 cents...
What more is to be said? Our friend David summed it best I could.
Webb is such an important character of the series. His tenacity, grit and determination are on par with anyone ever. He makes the series more entertaining.
I'm a fan.
If Coop wins the next 2 rounds, Jett can get two 3rd place finishes and win the title. That’s a cakewalk for Jett. Coop basically needs a miracle to win the title. Damn.
Everyone is always going on about Webb's grit... You mean the guy who had to take the summer of '22 off to go ride trail bikes because he didn't like his bike?
This championship is Jett’s to lose. Webb can’t “take it to him” like he has done in previous championship runs, winning races in the last half and sometimes the last turn. However, Jett’s first turn heat crash if it had been the main might have changed the story. Jett has to lose it by either crashes or bad starts, nobody is taking it from him.
Why do you look for negative and high light that?
Why not look at the breadth of his work and draw a conclusion from it?
No he didn't. Tomac was 2nd in mxgp to Renaux and Jett won open. Either way, Jett beat Eli in the final race when they raced mxgp and open. Jett 2nd, Tomac 6th
Yeah Renaux was the only guy to beat Jett at the '22 MXdN
Fantastic summary DV! I would summarily title Web as a "Predatory Opportunist"…
Webb needs a miracle to happen in order to win this, just like Chase got last year.
It does happen. Unlikely to happen two years in a row though isn't it?
Pit Row
Nothing that not have been said before.
When the top guys perform as the should, Webb is a 4-5th place guy.
Jett, Chase, Tomac and Roczen all trumps Webb in speed when they are on their A game.
Webb’s two titles were against a fragile Roczen and as DV said he is great at capitalize on others mistakes but this time he has nothing in his own tool box to put up against Jett other than rely on bad luck and Webb knows that.
The tears in his eyes last night spoke volumes…
I think he rode a KTM that summer. Maybe he knew then what Sexton is finding out now?
When people count Webb out, he often has the last laugh.
Obviously the stars need to align, but the same could be said about anyone... It's racing, it's not done til it's done.
How many of you would have bet on Jett wrapping up the title early? Yet here we are, Hunter, Tomac, Roczen, Sexton, Anderson, Plessinger, all too far out. Their “wagons” have already fallen apart and a few are already looking replacement parts lol.
But Webb is still holding out. I’d say he is far ahead of most expectations
There's no "wheels coming off" of anything.
Webb, Tomac, Sexton, and co. are all riding well.
Very well.
They're just getting beaten by someone better.
And that's just the way it is.
Cooper better be making friends with Chase. He's the only shot at pressuring Jett into a mistake.
If Chase is his only hope, it’s over.
Yeah for sure. We definitely did not just see Jett make a mistake in the sand trying to rush a pass to get by Coop, and we most certainly didn’t see Jett run into the back of Friese in the whoops because Coop was putting some pressure on him.
This is what they need to talk about in the booth, but won't. Webb has rarely been the fastest, but just close enough to take advantage of things that go wrong for others.
Between Chase blocking Coop in a race earlier this season, along with Chase running it in on him on a pass last night, I wouldn't count on it
No wheels coming off. Webb is in the place exactly where his talent is. He may have better "racecraft" at this stage of his career but he has to be physically close enough to use it. If Jett gets a good start, what does his racecraft matter if he can't catch up. BUT, and it's a big BUT, if they are close to one another, and they're trading paint, CW2 comes out on top 9 of 10 times. And CW2 can make if very hard to pass IF he's in front of #18. Jett has to pass though because if he gets hung up behind CW, then he has to deal with ET, CS, JA, and who knows else. I think the last 2 races will see some "a bit more than incidental contact".

Hes been getting arm pump. Looked like when ja21 passed him he couldnt hold onto the bike. Hes unable to use his signature last 5 min push.
