If Tomac averages 10 wins over the next two years, piece of cake.
If Tomac averages 10 wins over the next two years, piece of cake.
well, the King is safe and the moto community had a reason to smile last night with Tomac showing his speed.
Be a generation before we see anyone like Jett. FMOP
Makes you realize how daunting that number actually is, especially with how long Eli has been in the 450 class and how strong he has been throughout.
I wish, but Eli is done after this season.
Even if Tomac gets 80 wins he will still not be in the top 5 greatest SX racers ever with having only 2 titles. He needs a couple more SX titles to gain that status.

I'm going to get crucified for saying this, Tomac has under performed given his ability vs his competition, basically every year since he's been in 450's he's been the man and often fallen short often, 2017 summed this up.
Last year was his mentally best performance of his career and he was not even at his peak speed, his peak speed was while he as at Kawi.
In my eyes for reasons above he should have had a RC type of career, but not everyone is built mentally like RC.
Big time Eli fan, and I agree. He should’ve had 4 or 5 titles as dominant as he was all those years
Look at the list of guys that won titles since the Dunge era, I think we can all agree Eli was expected to beat them. Who has even been his equivalent rival speed wise? Marvin? Maybe Kenny, had he not had issues
Eli won the battles but lost the wars lol
Maybe not peak speed on the Yamaha but much better consistency and somehow he became a much better starter (not this year though lol) in 2022 and last year.
But yeah, 2017 and 2023 should have been his titles aswell. One could argue for 2018 since he was the fastest by far, but the amount of mains he threw away that year..
Outdoors I think he won every title that he should have won.
I agree with both y'all. He threw away many titles like Stew...
I agree.... one week he was deadly and the next week it was Elito Mac.
....but come on guys. 52 SX wins. That is pretty dominant. Titles or not.
I never really liked Tomac much when he was with Kawi, he always seemed miserable/stoic. Since he went to Yamaha, he's a totally different guy.
Peak ET speed was 2015 outdoors on the Honda.
Wow thats a hot take!
So hypothetically if he wins 8 more than Mcgrath he’s not top5.
Stay off the Brawndo pal!
Who the hell is on your top 5 list?
I’ll remind you, James and Chad also both have only 2 titles and both in the top 5 all time wins..
I'll answer . McGrath, RC , RV , Dungey , Then you pick among Tomac , Stewart, Reed , RJ , possibly Stanton . Not as many wins for Stanton but 3 titles to 2 by the others . It's crowded .
Edit: Let's not forget Hannah .
Bad math
I forgot what year it was in outdoors maybe it was his last Kawi one but it was as if he was trying to throw it away, he made it so much harder than it had to be.
Prime years of JS/RC/RV for example there was never any weirdness, they were always on, Tomac probably clears all of them in terms of ability and sped apart form James in SX, but Eli has had many many weird races which I believe was a problem between the ears.
I'm with blockhead. Please list your top five given that tomac is NOT on the list. I wanna see this.
Tomac dominated '17, '18, '20, '22, '23 Supercross seasons. In my eyes he's a 5 time champ. But that's not how racing works.
Pit Row
Supercross all time top 10
Position is based on Number of titles if there is a tie in titles wins will be the tie breaker.
Rider Titles Wins
1 McGrath 7 72
2 Carmichael 5 48
3 Villopoto 4 41
4 Dungey 4 34
5 Hannah 3 27
6 Stanton 3 17
7 Tomac 2 51
8 Stewart 2 50
9 Reed 2 44
10 Johnson 2 28
I'm a Tomac fan, but I think it's pretty easy to name 5 guys who could reasonably be considered better SX riders all-time:
- Hannah
- Johnson
- Stanton
- Ward
- McGrath
- Carmichael
- Stewart
- Villopoto
- Dungey
At his very best, Tomac is as good as any. But he always mixed in those weirdo 13th place finishes. And he stuck around and won races later in his career than the others. McGrath never won after turning 30 while Tomac has 8 wins since turning 30. So at this point Tomac is probably the greatest "old" SX racer ever.
But you said even if Tomac had 80 wins.
Look at that list adjusted with 80 then. Btw he has 52 wins. And really was 3 titles, considering the freak injury just jumping a rhythm section. He had that title.
In my heart, he will always have 3 sx 450 titles and i think 6 outdoor titles(not sure the exact number).
Agreed. Last year was his....
Chase got handed a double-gift last year.....(Coop and Tomac). Chase wasn't even in the running.
Here come the "in it to win it" comments....
Yes, yes, and yes, unfortunatly.
Chad Reed, James Stewart, Rick Johnson, Jeff Ward. They all have a mere 2 titles. Cooper Webb too.
As much as I like Tomac...and he's been my pick for the win in fantasy at every race this season (finally paid off lol) its crazy a rider with as many wins as he has only has 2 titles...easily should be 3...but really should be 5 or 6 if not for random inconsistent rides...
If you think like that than you need to put MC at 8 titles. Mc got a flat on the Suzuki which cost him enough points loss to give the title to Emig. Titles are won by points at the end of the season not race wins. Tomac is great one of the best but he needs at least two more SX titles to be in the top five all time SX riders.
when u go back and look at errythang wid him being the next 1 to dethrone the dunge & kenny’s landscaping of the sport injury , to be blunt Eli underperformed title wise in SX , he should be wid RV wid at least 4 titles to his name
It's crazy that Tomac only got 4 wins in his first 3 years of 450SX and he's still has the 2nd most wins all-time. Jett has a better jump on the record.
Love the guys listing Hannah for SX great. Dude was afraid of double jumps
