How is Kim Ashkenazi any different from the more than two million men in prison in the U.S. (way more than anywhere else in the world), most of whom are in for drug-related offenses? Should we turn our backs on them too after they got out so they will have no choice but to turn to crime once again?
This is not a sex offender in the sense that he touched or physically violated someone. Hell, we just watched Pete Townsend play with The Who at halftime of the Super Bowl after he was caught with pictures of even younger minors on his computer.
I have a very unfortunate friend who is pulling a twenty-year hitch for manslaughter. Drunk in a bar, got beat down in fight with two other guys, grabbed a gun.... He took full responsibility and they threw the book at him, and he accepted his punishment. I visit him from time to time and it's a real reality check. When he gets out, I hope I am in a position to reach back and give him a hand. He's already ruined many lives with his terrible lack of judgment -- not least of which is the life he took and the family left behind....
So is it wrong to to try to help this man? Wait. Don't both answering that. I will follow my own beliefs and convictions (no pun intended).

As for the "child porn" thing and the use of his CC in downloading it, it is VERY possible the girls in question were 16-17 yr olds. You all look at porn (you say you don't, you're a liar...it's why Al Gore invented the internets, right?), how do you know the ages of the "women" in those photos?
Tracy Lords did porn for several years, hard core shit, made tons of money, bailed out and then said she was underage in all of them, and you can no longer buy any of her movies legally. Did you know if you own a Tracy Lords porno, you're in possession of child porn?
You have no idea how old the "women" are in the videos or photos you've looked at.
You ASSUME they're over 18, but you don't know for a fact and that doesn't mean that some of the girls didn't lie.
This is a problem I have with the "kiddie porn" laws.
Babies or pre-pubescent is easy to figure out and TOTALLY DIFFERENT, but a 17 yr old? How do you know whether she is or isn't 18? Their DOB is not tattoo'd on their forehead.
I don't buy the girlfriend part of the story, but if the photos were of 16 or 17 yr old, you probably have the same in the cache of your own computer and don't even know it, and if cops tore down your system, they'd find them and your excuse would be "How was I to know how old they are?"

None of "or very few of" us know Kim personally, and shouldn't be so quick to judge.
I've got kids and have the same fears all parents do. That doesn't make me question why Racer X has this gentleman in their pages. I'm confident he has paid for his mistakes, and will continue to pay for them for a long time.

It seems people are very quick to jump on the Ashcan drug/phaedophile bandwagon and toss him to the curb. I guess this makes them feel morally better to continue to kick a man when he is down. Perhaps their ancestors were the crowds who flocked to public hangings?
I'm with DC in that Kim deserves another chance in life, otherwise were is there to go except a downward spiral back into a life of crime?
His article in RacerX was honest and if just one kid was turned away from drugs and crime then it was worhwhile publishing it!
I have a cousin who got caught up in drugs, served his prison time and has now re-built his life, a new family and a successful business, because people were tolerant to give him a second chance.
