Well, if you take out Jett, Tomac would have won with 3 seconds over Sexton after passing him and 26 seconds over Webb, turning a 1.29 while everybody (outside of CS and DF)  was doing 1.31-1.32 at best, WHILE on a bike that was smoking a lot. That is a very good performance if you ask me.

Jett was just good enough to minimize Eli's performance by passing him and put a gap.

Still a Tomac fan here too. But he was talking about retiring two years ago, and coming off serious injury. Seriously past his prime racing condition. Jett should be able to beat him. As should some other pro 20-24year olds.

Is that the new narrative? Tomac is past his prime?

And he came from behind.

That was an incredible ride from him. And a warning to everyone else that 2023 perfect season outdoors wasn't a fluke, everyone better get ready for a similar show in 2024 if he is healthy.

Indeed. A "no nonsense" Jett could easily go on a run and blow this series apart in the next few rounds. Then dominate outdoors again.  ...

Tomac and Sexton were having a great battle, proving that they're still far and away the best of the rest.

But Jett threw down 2fer's on them in both the heat race, and main.

Then dropped the hammer.

BTW,

I'm a Tomac fan from way back.

You think Sexton will be better this summer than last summer? That's going to be a tall order.

Outdoors is about to be a snoozefest 😮‍💨🥱

What is the point of the insult? I really don't think there is a valid counterpoint unless breakdowns occur or injuries. I can't see anyone who can run down Jett and pass him so far, has anyone else seen someone capable of passing Jett? Perhaps at des Nations? I know if this or that happens somebody might, it just does not seem likely at all for years.

I don't think his prime is ahead of him, if that is the question. If so he would be historically the oldest SX champ ever. And he obviously is not at his prime currently, which I think he has stated himself.

It was more a response to some of his earlier posts . I agree barring injury Jett will get the title.

It’s insane to me that people act like Tomac is trash just because he isnt winning. Coming off injury, dealing with setup issues, and last night a smoking bike, still lands in second place at DAYTONA. Did you guys see how gnarly that track was? All 3 of those podium finishers are absolute beasts

If we removed Jett from the racing. We would be talking about Sexton and Tomac battling and seeing Tomac in Beast mode around Daytona riding the wheels off a 450.

Jett is just better and making the racing we watched all last year in SX seem slower or the riders have fallen off the pace.

Tomac’s bike was smoking two turns into the main. I’m trying to upload the video.

Sexton on a new team/bike with an injured hand and Tomac coming off a massive injury at a time in his career when most guys have long since retired.  That's not to take away from what Jet has done/is doing, but I don't think you can say Tomac or Sexton are at the top of their game.

Yep, engine oil smoke, zero effect on performance.

Depends what week it is: one week- Tomac’s done, next week- Tomac’s back, week after- Tomac should have retired, week after- beast mode, week after- it’s a new era…..pretty fickle fans around here. Same goes for most riders, just change the name, very short attention spans it seems…..

Quick note back on the tire cover thing...  I think the rule needs a clarification.  Let's be honest with ourselves, Jett was gonna hammer down at the gate drop whether the cover was completely off or not and that mechanic was in a pretty serious safety situation.

Here's the rule that should/could apply: 4.23 k.  In the event a rider needs to make repairs once loaded in the starting gate, the motorcycle must be pushed back from the gate to behind the rear restraint before any repairs can be made, so as not to interfere with other competitors

I think it should also say:  All non race accessories must be removed from the bike before it is loaded in to the starting gate.

This has nothing to do with Jett specifically, just the rules, to prevent a possible injury.

I don't consider removing a stubborn tyre cover as a bike repair.

Amazing how far some are reaching in denial of this guy's speed and skills.

I like how he was already thinking about having to come through the pack if it hadn't been cleared.

So he wasn't going to "hammer down" if it hadn't been taken care of by the time the gate dropped.

He could feel what was going on back there.

Yeah, I'm just waiting for the Vital Verdict (I've copyrighted that, BTW) on whether he's Slomac or Gomac. Wink

I'll take the under on that:

I assume Kenny will race more outdoors than last year. Eli possibly running outdoors. Coop running more races than he did last year. Chase will have his KTM sorted out and prove to himself he made the right decision to switch. AP getting better and better. Anderson and his new teammate? looking to improve. So yea, I'll take the under.

If I win you have to make a post each day for two weeks saying "man I wish ILoveMoto would post more" 🙂
