Interesting move before the 450 Main after seeing how tight the rear wheel swap was for Anstie...Any potential ramifications? Very rarely do the AMA officials have to ask mechanics to leave, usually they have all cleared out by the the time the 30-second card is up. See bullet point 2.

they were a little late taking off a tire cover damn
Was anyone else nervous for Jett? I was sure he was missing the start of that race.
Probably could have still podiumed if he had. But Eli and Chase would have been out of reach. Kinda crazy they didn't learn from cutting it close in the 250 race.
I was thinking the same when this happened , it would be a penalty under gp rules , as you are not allowed anyone to touch the bike once loaded in the gate

What repairs were they making? It was a stubborn tire cover.
Risk vs reward on that whole thing didn’t seem worth it to me.
I think they swapped a tire at the last minute. What it looked like to me.
Wouldn’t surprise me if they did, but as long as they did it before he rolled into his gate, there’s no penalty. The issue before the gate drop was just stubborn snaps on the tire cover. Guess we’ll find out when the penalty report is released.
Umm repairing the rear wheel from going out with a cover on it??
Doesn’t a rider waving on the starting line still get them 2 minutes?
See CPR’s post.
Not once the 30 sec board is up
They were putting on a fresh wheel after the sight lap so he didn’t have a muddy tire for the grate start. Anstie did the same.
Questionable advantage with lots of risk for disaster if something goes wrong, drop an axle nut in the sand, don’t push axle blocks up against chain adjuster, tire cover gets tangled up.
It was a huge risk and didn’t look like it added much value for both classes. Better off spending the time cleaning the tyre on the line.
Can’t see them doing that again anytime soon
Probably a strongly worded email and double secret probation
Yea it normally does. But I feel like this wheel change is choice so it might cancel out the right to ask for extra time.
There is no way Jett's deal did not interfere with the riders either side.
Rule is there for a reason, it was broken. Tyre covers are fine but they need to be off before you go to the gate, which is why GP teams carry the bike to the grate.
If there isnt a penalty, then they are not enforcing the rules.
I agree, but there won't be 100%.
Pit Row
Yep, not about Jett, it's about the clusterfuck they created for the riders on either side of him. Might as well be shining a laser in their eyes from the stands...
It was extremely close being 2-3 seconds before the gate drop but even with the chaos he did nail a good start.
Will they fine Jett for still having 2 mechanics on the start line?
They changed max’s rear then rolled it through the mud….
Ah the Jett haters are out in full force. Do you seriously think the riders on either side of him were looking at anything but the gate?
If there is a rule it should be enforced, if not make one. If the gate would have dropped, I could see the mechanics arm being pulled into the rear wheel or chain.
I looked for a bit, but did not find a rule stating (something to the affect) that once the 30 second board is raised that the mechanics must leave the area behind the starting gate. Perhaps, that is not a rule. The AMA official tried to get the mechanics out of there at the last second.
The race would have definitely had a different outcome if either: The AMA official removed the mechanics before the tire cover was removed or the bike was backed out of the gate to have the tire cover removed - resulting in Jett missing the gate drop by at least a few seconds.
Why would anyone think that removing the tire cover is not some type of "repair?" You have 2 mechanics with hands on the bike, taking it from a non-ready condition to a ready to race condition.
Man....I woulda loved to see the start with that tire cover on.... that would have been epic.
As for the "gray area" of the tire cover and the rule.... they ain't gonna touch their cashcow.
Because if you point out they received preferential treatment last night you are branded a hater
It's pretty clear that the rule states repairs, can't race the race with a wheel cover on. A repair was made and not pushed back from gate. Action needs to be taken in some form. If Ando's team made that error, he would have been penalized last night.
A huge danger to the mechanic is a legit point....
Tell me you never raced without telling me you never raced.
The rules on working on the bike while in the gate were broken, plain and simple. Doesn't matter if it's a wheel cover or adjusting a lever. Either way nothing will come of it.
