Where did you see that it was him who crashed? If it was him, this is his second broken bone in less than a year. He won't be a factory rider in a year due to injuries even though he has been in the top 10 a lot.

If it’s a broken femur and if it’s him, neither of which have been confirmed, he will get a rod and be back riding in 10-12 weeks. He will race the last 5 or 6 of outdoors. A femur break is dangerous because of what’s around it but once it’s set it’s not a long recovery anymore.

That's inaccurate, I broke both my femurs at the same time in 2010. It took a good 3-4 months minimum to feel good enough to attempt to ride a bike. This was all with intense physical therapy.

Derek is a local pro who also does training here in PA. Heard about this yesterday from my kid. Apparently news travels quickly via youth and Snapchat. Heard bike malfunction over a triple. He was preparing for Daytona. I didn’t realize he was at Bakers though? Thought that was KTM specific these days. Either way hope he mends quickly and can back at it.

Lots of variables. I broke, nay, exploded, the top half of my femur close to the ball. 10 months out. Couldn't even walk on it for 4 months. A clean break in the middle is different though. Mine had several shattered pieces floating around.

Broke femur

I broke my femur at the distal end (close to knee) an it even exited the skin and I never even knew it was broken. It was a simple repair. The shattered acetabulum (hip socket) and the complete double column pelvis fracture I promise you I knew about them, 4 months non-weight bearing. A clean, mid-shaft femur break is fairly straight forward break these days.

Just because your particular situation was different doesn’t mean it was inaccurate. Many people are coming back 10-12 weeks.

Also definitely aware that it can be 10 weeks or 10 months but I was trying to be positive after hearing about an accident. Sue me.

Firstly, I hope the kid heals up fast and gets back in the saddle. A femur is one of my top fears in moto. Moreso in the hare scrambles I do. I always think of the possibility of an open fracture and bleeding out before someone gets to me.

Secondly and much much much less important, some of you guys are clowns and suck ups. I make a post about someone getting hurt and get 7 downvotes. DV comes on and confirms it and over 40 people like his post. Stop sucking up, he isn't going to follow you on social media. It matters little, it just amuses me.

Any break is subject to so many variables that Vital’s “doctors” can’t give an accurate prognosis. Some can be plated and mended within a couple months, others will have lifelong issues and never return to 100%.

We don’t know what happened to the guy. Even if a doctor came into this thread he wouldn’t estimate recovery time based on a social post.

Farres, broken Femur.

Man that sucks for him. Thank god he got 2 SX in this year so he could show that he's easily a top 10 guy. Outdoors probably not gonna happen either now - at least not the full season.

Leatherman wasn’t at Bakers but did sustain a femur break practicing in Florida.

I asked and no response. I also don’t like people that do that.

Hopefully he heals fast enough to get a good chunk of outdoors. Looking on the brightside I don't think they were expecting much out of him in SX but cause some damage outdoors. That's the glass half full outlook from me anyway.

A femur break was always 6 months before you're back on a bike. If everything goes well. That's just to start riding, not racing.

It’s definitely not “always” 6 months. You may believe whatever your heart desires though.
