Where are the opportunities? Where are the options? Is the sport to small to break into business wise? Ideas?

It’s insanely easy to make $1m in moto. Just have to spend $2-3m. lol
This isn't a money making sport for investors Bud. All this money is play money and the investors pay to keep their favorite sport alive.
Are you just looking to invest and make money? Or actually start/run an industry business to make money?
If you've earned enough riding then clearly there's a business there. You leverage your fame by selling bikes, partnering with manufacturers etc...

Start a race team and you will kill it.
I mean, you could always ask DV for some advice.
If you just want to work so you aren't sitting on the couch eating chips, go get a salesperson job at your local cycle-o-rama. If you want to invest $2-3M to net $1M back, do like Studworx mentioned. I'd suggest starting a dealership - look into Beta and Triumph franchises.

Imagine the ROI.....and I ain't talkin $$$$$.
I’m in the same boat, just retired after 33 years in the military at 50… i don’t “have” to work but would like to do something I’m passionate about because the divot i’m making in the couch is getting out of hand. I’m decent at suspension work and thought about doing the Race Tech suspension seminar and trying to do maintenance work on the side from the house or working at the parts department at Carter Motorsport here in vegas … or something like that. Then I just keep watching ancient aliens because it’s the only thing on during the day and another week goes by 😂
you've already got $ and are young- what the hell do you even want to work for? Go play moto while you can before Father Time catches up with you
If you're really adventurous and want to keep getting your hands dirty start a VMX restoration business!
Go ride while your young unless your done riding of course.
I did suspension work for years out of my garage and had enough a following that it was not fun. I was still working at that time.
Now that I'm retired I just want to ride or get out and do stuff. I thought of going to a local dealer and see what i could offer, sales, sweep floors, but now that Im here, screw that.
Lets Ride!
Fastest way to ruin your passion is to make it your job
That old story is the first thing that came to my mind...
"You can start a motocross team and end up the season with a million dollars."
"How?"
'You just have to start the season with five million bucks."
Where's it from? I think I read it in MXA a loooooong time ago...
Totally agree with you... but lots of people don't.
I have worked in racing for 20+ years now, there is not as much money as people think, its hard work and you basically live on the road. Its a lifestyle, but its not for everyone, its not comfortable life, and you never really know if you will have a job next week.
if you wanted to do something with motorcycles post retirement, start a moto vlog!
I heard PULPMX is for sale...
its easy to look at the example of clubmx and think one could just buy land and a few dozers, start a training facility. but you have no idea what type of costs they incurred maintaining and running equipment, long hours hauling dirt. You would have to work long hours back breaking work in addition to the hundreds of thousands spent, then deal with parents who don't pay, kids who complain, occasional lawsuits, staff problems.
You might consider going the racetrack route, but again you're going to have mostly those same costs and problems. Local series in most places act like mafiosa and block new tracks from entering the series, but they will have to cave if the track is good enough. I've heard of tracks making $25k a race weekend or more, but how many of those race weekends will you really have in a year. Then this brings into question the amateur scene's contemporary viability. This isn't the early 2000's with a full gate of PW 50's. Lucky to have five participants.
any kind of "race team" you might get involved with is going to be a huge disappointment and waste of time. you'll be dealing with insanely high costs, a large hang-around crew, parents who want stuff for free, and some pissed off guy who pays for it all and gets nothing in return.
you might think about importing some product from asia and starting a "brand." but most of this mx gear goes sitting around unsold and there's no shortage of failed brands these days. most people from the track will want this crap for free.
the only real opportunity i see in this sport is basically stealing Feld's content and trying to get youtube crumbs from voiceovers. monetize a social media. that's the world we live in these days and its sad. not a lot of opportunity but you have to be realistic to survive.
Pit Row
Unfortunately, all the money for us regulars is in webcam modeling and Onlyfans these days...
Here's an idea...Hire qualified flaggers and travel race to race. C'mon Feld pay up!
Flaggers Inc. 🙂
I wonder what the costs would be to get started in cylinder replating/repair. I'm not sure what specific machines would be needed. If you already have a full size workshop, it could be worth looking into. The demand is definitely there judging by the wait times at millenium. Machining is probably the least scammy business you could possibly start in this industry.
I actually have some questions:
1) How old are you when you say you're "young?"
2) How did you get your $?

I have been recovering from my left scaphoid break this past september, just released this tuesday but i think im going to give it another few weeks to ride again!

Tech + Moto is a massive opportunity. So many areas of the business are ripe for disruption.
There are many consumers in this sport and a lot of space for innovation still. Get creative and you can figure out a way to make some money.
I’ve thought about buying a few ttr125’s and doing some riding schools for people who want to get in the sport but have no real recourse for doing so.
With the correct marketing I believe it could be a pretty lucrative part time gig.
There’s many ways to get your product in front of consumer’s eyes with current social media marketing.
At the end of the day if you create a good product that there is a demand for in your area, it’ll work out.
Let's go for a "Dual Sport" ride on my KLRs out thru Red Rock and when we get to the other side we can take some graded roads north and watch the 22s and 35s make their practice runs.
I'm jus' sayin'...
I don't agree. Moto is a tiny market. I bet if the guys at litpro or GET applied their skills to other industries they would make much much more $$
Post a reply to: You've got money, are retiring young and want to earn in moto somehow because you love it...
