Nobody mentioned Travis Pastrana ?
Besides Jeremy, nobody has brought moto to mainstream more than TP.
He may not have the titles, but he's done a world of good for the sport, on and off the track.

Anyone under 50 should not have a vote. Decoster. Hannah.Mc. Rc.
Jett
Jett
Jett
Deegan
The first three are easy for me:
MC – Dominant and changed the way SX is ridden
RC – Dominant and changed the way riders train
Stew – Less dominant than we'd hoped, but changed the way people ride motorcycles across the board
The fourth is more of a toss-up:
Marty Smith – Dominant and the first true superstar of the sport
Hannah – The first guy I remember with a true 'win at all costs' mentality
Bailey/Johnny O' – The first guys to really implement high level cardio into their training, and style for days
Rutledge Wood
Ralph Sheheen
Bret Michaels
Vince Friese
With Mt. Rushmore being a monument to American
Presidents, I'm going with US riders only.
McGrath
Carmichael
Stewart
Then it gets kinda difficult but if it was either
Marty Smith or Bob hannah as the fourth i"d
be cool with it.
Mt. Rushmore is a tribute to great Americans, so any MX Mt. Rushmore should be based on American riders. I think it should come down to dominance, and overall contribution to the sport- Hannah, RJ, MC, RC across the top, with RV, Stew, Wardy, and Marty Smith carved into the next tier.
Peick needs to be in there. Kiedrowski & LaRocco. 4th spot to Barcia.
Ok, to clarify, this is MX and does not include SX. Gotta go by championships won - not a bunch of subjective crap like "poetry in motion" or changed the riding style, etc.
Everts - 10 championships, RC - 10 Championships, Cairoli - 9 championships, Decoster - 5 championships riding on 500s (but also as a team manager and MXdN manager its hard to look up how many championships he produced in MX)
One could argue for Glover with 6 championships on 500s, and Joel Robert, but in Robert's 6 championships all were on 250s, while Glover had 3 on 500s and 3 on lites bikes. To me 3 on big bikes and 3 on lites is more impressive than 6 all on smaller bore classes. Regardless, Glover and Robert don't have the body of work in MX that DeCoster does.
Dunge = under hyped
Stew= over hyped.
If we are strictly talking mx.
Dunge has 3 titles and 39 wins
Stew has 1 title and 20 wins.
And remember 50% of ppl say 125/250 class results don't count.
Add tomac outdoor titles,wins.
List up
1. Marty Smith
2. Marty Moates
3. David Bailey
4.Jeremy McGrath
Honorary Mentions:
5. Broc Glover
6. Johnny O'Mara
7. Ricky Carmichael
8. James Stewart
9. Ricky Johnson
10. Broc Glover
11. Ron Lechein
12. Danny Chandler
11. Ryan Dungey
12. Ryan Villopoto
13. Eli Tomac
14. Kevin Windham
15. Travis Pastrana
Should I keep going? I think this is pretty sound as far as US riders go.
Edit: We are talking founding fathers... Shoot I forgot Jeff Ward and Hannah... Never ending.
Tomac has
4 titles and 32 wins.
Based purely off results eli and dunge should be above stew 100% of the time. Stew has 1 450 mx title so I have a hard time seeing any way the stew is on it.
Purely off results Mt Rushmore of mx should be,
1. Rc by a mile.
2 and 3 tomac and dunge.
4 either rj, ward, glover or hannah if your old school, or maybe RV or stew if your 30 or younger but those older guys stats are far superior.
Agree that Rushmore is as American as it gets. My list of four is DeCoster, Hannah, McGrath and Carmichael. DeCoster is first and I’ll stand by it as I can’t think of anyone who’s done more for American motocross than Roger.
The only one that was a hard choice was Hannah because Marty Smith, Magoo, Rick Johnson, James Stewart, Brad Lackey and many others were in the mix and could totally fill that spot. But Hannah had an attitude that was 100% Murica, so he’s my choice.
Agreed, quite a few ahead of stewart
Pit Row
MC Henry RC Stew or Alice in Chains
But for real tho, I was born in 95 so all I know is the past 25 years.
It would have to be RC, Stew, Villo, Eli.
You back up my comment from about 5 posts ago.
Dunge is always slept on.
Dunge has 3 450 titles and 39 wins.
Stew has 1 title and 20 wins
Villo has 2 titles and 12 wins.
Dunge has 4 titles. Villo has 4. Stew has 3.
He’s talking 450mx. Stew only has 1 title
This thread is out of control lol people clearly did not read the first post
450 titles carry much more weight then 125/250 titles.
Is jmart an all timer? Or Mark Barnett or Steve lamson?
Stewart does have a perfect season under his belt.
Do RV or Dunge? Fans of both but Stewart's advancement
of technique and race craft should count for something.
Any list that doesn’t have Bob Hannah on it is fucked up. Even if your young, that’s no excuse.
My list: RC, Hannah, DeCoster, Bubba
I've said this for years and I stand by it today...
The Man
The King of SX
The Goat
The Czar
MC, RC, TP, ET
And if I could carve a 5th spot, it would be for JS7. He changed the sport for sure. Either learn to scrub or stay home and play with your nub. He may not have the championships to show for it, but when he was on it, he was unbeatable.
I just dont get how people can put Stewart on there. I love the guy, but Dungey and Villo were far better than him.
Far better? Are you high?
