I can't find a English language article but today's Swedish business newspaper writes that Cake files for bankruptcy.
Now, it was not dirtbikes, but they were kind of high profile hipster bikes. Ugly AF and expensive.

This might be common knowledge so don't blast me if so. But, Stefan the found of CAKE is also the found of POC. POC stands for piece of cake and when it sold Stefan started the brand CAKE. Useless information but I thought that was cool because I never knew what POC stood for. Any who, back to work.
He’s going for speed… 🏁
They are not going the distance
Well in this case he might not have gone the distance.
They're not all like that utilitarian dad-picking-up-groceries-at-the-local-co-op thing. The Cake Kalk was pretty cool, as Ikea influenced as it may be. But it's the same issue as what I was whining about in the other thread....what on earth are they thinking that those products can support a billion dollar company? They're completely drunk and out of touch with reality of their product's place in the world.
I was a hair off on the gate drop.
Venue here in Wichita asked folks who they wanted to see. My daughter was first to reply. She asked for Cake and by golly...that's who they got. She's got tickets and is stoked.
You will survive
That thing looks like a wheelbarrow
When you see how scooters and small bikes are used in developing countries that design makes a hell of a lot of sense.
chickens on the front. 3 kids and significant other in the middle, bags of rice or grain on the back.
Crf ain't gonna do all that
Did James Stewart/Seven invest in a team for an urban Cake racing series or something?
Maybe that is how RC came up with the wheelbarrow concept he was using in that first mud race. He's a secret Cake test rider. LOL
They are running Electric Motion bikes (French, mostly trials-type machines) for the FIM E-Xplorer series. I don't believe Cake was involved in that series at all.
Pit Row
I don’t remember if they invested or not, but there definitely was an announced association of sorts.
How long until we see this headline about Stark Hedgefund, I mean Stark Futures?
Not dirtbikes? Serious?
I bet they have bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse
Notice anything missing in that video. Sound of the bikes (or more accurately lack of sounds)
That's the future of MX/SX with electric. Boring AF.....
Anyone who has seen a picture of the bike, is not a tiny bit surprised.
The only thing that is more predictable than hipsters starting hipster businesses, is that they will all fail at some point.
We are going through multiple instances of Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants going under , or more amusingly, starting to sell meat.
Cake didn't give crap about developing countries. That were high-end urban utility cargo bikes for urban professionals, with typical IKEA design.
These things were way too expensive. The offroad models were the same price as a Stark, and who's gonna buy this over a Varg?
Surely you've heard of mountain bikes? Ever watch any gnarly downhill races? Shit's crazy. Zero engine sound. Nobody rides for sound, or else we wouldn't ride. We'd just put some earphones in and listen to the sounds. Wait.....you may have given me a business idea....
A lot of motorsports fans talk about having noise. It's not just the MX/SX fanbase.
When F1 went to V6, the cars were significantly quieter than the V8 of the previous era. The fans complained about them not being loud enough and F1 went to work. They made the changes that were necessary and the cars were louder in the second year.
IMO, sound is part of the experience. Always has been.
2014 first year of V6 vs second year in 2015.
Can't blame the fans. 2013 to 2014. Completely different experience.
As a spectator, of course the sounds are rad, but people get too hung up on the sound as if that's the only thing that keeps them interested. That's a weird concept. You can get the sounds without spending all that time and money. People watch golf, so I'm pretty sure we could figure it out, because we've got a lot more going on than golf. Plus, moto has so much talent that we need more classes. We need smoker classes, we need e-classes, whatever we can get to extend careers.
Cake sold about 2 200 Kalks in 3 years, about as much as Vargs sold in the past 3 months.
Launched in 2018, the Kalk was priced similarly to the Varg, with 2.6 kWh battery and 15 hp peak power for only 83 kg. 6 years later, their latest flagship, the Bukk, offers 22 hp with 2.9 kWh battery for 89 kg (priced 10 000 €).
That was some marginal improvement but things move fast in this space
...unfortunately for the Cake motorcycles that were limited to 90 km/h...
