Btw it says a lot about Öhlins offroad that Ducati is choosing to run Showa on their MX race bikes.

Is the head 3d printed????

It really does look like additive manufacturing, the stacked horizontal lines and rough texture seems like 3d printing for sure. Good eye! I can’t wait to see one in person. Ducati have made most of my fave street bikes of all time. I will be first in line 😂

That front fender is going to hold like 5 lbs of dirt lol

Ducati are calling the bike a "DESMO" but we don't know if it has desmodromic valve operation until we are told.

It could make for very efficient engineering. As far as shapes that would be hard to cast or machine. I think it will be unbelievably fast and so expensive that we won’t see many. Will be high maintenance and extremely expensive to fix, plus parts will be hard to get. Just think about it as the Lamborghini of dirtbikes

They may plan to do Dakar. You may use it as a shovel in case you're stuck in the dunes. Pretty clever.

Well it was one of the first things the CEO said about the bike. He said they are excited about bringing Desmo to off-road racing. Pretty clear, also the size of the head/valve cover should tell you everything.

Tough looking bike. The front fender is a little bulky around the triple clamp, but it looks excellent. 100% better than the YZinger.

You do…they are on the other side as well. I wonder if it’s for a removable brace to stiffen the chassis? I doubt it, but could it be for some kind of skid plate mount or engine guards maybe?  Definitely strange Blink

It's a tool brand, nothing to do with the motorcycle company.

Has there been any indication of a 250 in the works?

1/22/2024 5:05am

Has more Ducati styling/DNA than I thought it would, I like it a lot

Who runs Öhlins, I’m pretty sure HEP Suzuki tried it a few years back and couldn’t make them work? Just wondering why someone making a new dirt bike wouldn’t try and go with Showa or KYB and would rather go with Ohlins instead?

Ducati must be paying Cairoli pretty well to get him away from KTM and Red Bull, he was a Red Bull athlete for nearly 20 years.

Nobody runs it in moto because it's not up to standard. My point was that Ducati has such a deep relationship with Öhlins with their race bikes and top of the line road bikes that it says a lot about Öhlins off-road that Ducati didn't go with them.

Could possibly be a bit of national pride thrown in there too

I think most people know what you meant by it 👍

If Ducati go down the max power route as they did in motoGP and superbikes  I don’t think it’ll help much, current 450’s are already too fast/fast enough with many pro’s smoothing out power/slowing down the bikes.

It doesn’t have valve springs and the valves are closed mechanically. So it should have a very fast revs and rev higher. No valve float.

Right, it's basically a cam that forces the valve open and also forces the valve closed with no springs in the system.  The system spins with no parasitic load like a standard valve train.  Quicker revs and higher overall RPM capability are the advantages.  The negatives are a need to keep the system perfectly adjusted and it needs a larger footprint (big head) to fit the system inside.

They're for the front engine mounts, which bolt to the inside of the cradle rails

That’s a great looking scooter. It’ll be interesting to see how the Desmo system benefits a 450, it could easily be the fastest thing on the track. 450s don’t lack for power now, but the tighter control of the valve train could do some good stuff.

How hard is valve adjustment? Seems like it could be a PITA?

A Desmo 250 could be a game changer. 20k RPM potential?

That sounds like a big advantage on a 250F

Ducati always has Showa and Sachs units on base models. The “S” models and up get cool electronics and Öhlins suspension. I would imagine an “S” or “R” model is somewhere in the pipeline.
