Man, thanks for bringing gypsy up. I watched a few of his interviews (because of the guys he interviewed). The riders open up quite a lot with him. But he really just talks way too much about himself and his own struggles/insights/whatever. I have stopped listening for Quite a while now. Was too annoying.
In general this preanswering is annoying. But then again it’s just an action sport.
That gypsy dude is a such a farkn fully sick bro dude. He does some crazy ju jitsu shit bros he's just sick man.
No hate here, just my thoughts on his interviewing style.
Whether it's right or wrong, I have no clue. It's just not my preference of interview style.
At the end of the day he's getting paid as a journalist, so he must be doing something right.
It’s objectively wrong in journalism.

IMO there are only three guys that write about moto that have the qualifications (and degrees) to be considered “Journalists” - Maeda, Coombs, and Weigandt.
1. we have moto journalists? I'll be damned.
2. they ask QUESTIONS?
in all seriousness, I bitch about the bro-moto-media constantly and am just repetitively told that they can't ask THE MOST OBVIOUS QUESTIONS of riders cause they just won't answer them. Last week's example was ML telling me that Friese will refuse to answer so he doesn't ask, which was followed by a kid with an iphone that walked up to VF and ask him the questions we all wanted answered. It's exhausting.
Ohh, btw, I've been banned from MCR's pit area. Because of what I've said about their riders on podcasts.
Pretty sure not one of them have a degree in journalism but will gladly say I’m wrong if you provide a link showing otherwise
This industry is so thin skinned! What did you ask to earn such an honor? Or was it because you wouldn’t delete and ban Vital threads/users that don’t like them?
Hate when the journalist intro to the question is 10x longer than the answer.
It's like they need to make up a story to ask a question. Particularly noticeable If you compare US va Europe.
cool. then just say "Cause I can't ask questions like that" when your customers groan at the info-blockage that happens from time to time in our sport instead of trying to rationalize NOT asking the most obvious questions of the most obvious people.
They refuse my interviews or presence. I'm sorry you can't accept that.
It's objectively wrong in general communication...
Thinking about the in helmet communications question.
Journalist Question - 'Given the tricky and changing track conditions as well as the lappers, specifically race winners going a lap down, what are you thoughts on having something like a formula 1 in helmet communication with your mechanic?'
Moto Journalist - 'I have been watching Drive to Survive and realised that they have in helmet communication, I think that would be really good for this sport and would give great insight for the viewing audience and will really help you guys navigate the changing track and navigate the lappers. I think it would really elevate and modernise the sport and open up great sponsorship opportunities. When I race i find it difficult to adapt and find new lines on the track and i always wished i had someone who could point out the lines for me and i think it would really help. I also find a pit board hard to read. I know when i watch racing and specifically people like Jett or previously Christophe Pourcel, especially in outdoors but even supercross qualifying he always found such creative lines. In Ju Jitsu we have a couch and between round they will tell us stuff about our form and our opponents that we can't see because we are in the middle of the action. Anywhat what do you think? Oh, for all of you.'
Thats not what I was referencing and you know it. We had this conversation regarding Vince freise and you told me that he simply would not answer any questions so you didn't ask any. Then we had the kid with the iPhone simply walk up to him and ask questions.
The truth is far better than excuses
edit - you did great w/ the CW interview by pressing him about the Sexton pass. Then I was bummed when I watched Lewis' interview with Sexton, and he asked nothing about it. :-(
Thats the problem. It’s not “an action sport” no more then cycling or F1 is. Action sports are judged disciplines like half pipe skateboarding or snowboarding.
Supercross is a bit of a joke mostly due to the presentation of it, but it’s pure racing, Motocross especially so. With announcers that can actually speak coherently, giving more insight into track conditions, bike set ups and even live heart rate monitors on the guys, it could be a lot better. Rather then how it is, which is currently marketed for morans seemingly.
I would kill to listen to Luis (sp?) grill Vince and Tony/MCR like he did with the WSX promoter. He’s the perfect balance of forcing them to answer the hard questions without being a dick.
If they keep asking and do it in the right way it will turn on the riders and they’ll begin to look foolish for not answering.
Ok. Let's start with asking just ONCE which would be a great improvement
Pit Row
Kimi’s sister?
So you think Sexton actually tried to hold up Webb?
I would not know. However Michael did a great job asking Cooper about the situation and he implied that it was a deliberate move. Why not ask Chase the same question?
I’m so sick of hearing these retards say “yeah, no”
for sure
If he brings up jiu jitsu, mma, or starts talking about himself during the press conference, I’m going to lose my shit 😭
Was cooper interviewed before he saw the video? I thought it was greasy on Chase til saw the video this morning and it clearly shows he tried to check up and then Webb ran into him due to the mud
He starts out every question with, “kinda tell us how……..”
Guyb their publicist..
I think your right and chase actually lost balance and dabbed a few coming out of the turn. He got a bit cross rutted I thought.
I like threads like this, because I/we can always be better.
On the subject matter: I know that I do that. Sometimes it's by design to get a more pointed answer and others it's a mistake.
I want my interviews to be thought provoking. If a rider has to stop and think about their answer then I'm kind of happy, haha.
I try to keep my questions short. The question that I asked Tomac on press day that was three words was the most powerful.
Ask them Math questions. You will see them have to stop and think 😂😂😂
