As someone who has built 100’s of motor, I’ve tried and seen many oils in the past 25+ years. No matter if you want to believe me or not, Blud Lubricants I actually spend my own money on this oil. It’s absolutely that good. Next and more often available is Motul. Every other motorcycle specific oils kinda fall in behind them. Retells isn’t actually that bad. Just make sure what ever you use doesn’t say “energy conserving” on it. Those friction modifier additives are bad on clutches.

I personally like Marvel Mystery Oil, makes your 4 stroke smell like a Top fuel funny car.   Just kidding! don't use that stuff, personally use Honda HP4 and Motorex

Objectively, the best oil is the one you change the most often.  I'd rather run a "worse quality" oil and change it every ride vs run the most expensive motorex or some other expensive brand and change it every 10 rides.

And at the end of the day, most oils are probably less dissimilar than we like to think. I also would bet that most engine failures are not dependent on which brand of oil the owner chose to run, usually it's other factors.

That all said, I run Motul 300V and I change it as often as possible.

Very good advice and Motul has very good oil.

I’ve run Red Line Synthetic Racing oil in my KTM’s since 2019. No issues, personally think it’s the best stuff out there.

Clean and fresh, full syn, correct for a wet clutch. Brand is secondary.

I use Maxima, Moterex, Motul, mostly out of habit. There’s a lot of good stuff on the market. I run Rotella T6 in the diesel truck, the generators, the play bikes the SXS and anywhere else its right.

All of the independent tests I have seen show Bel-Ray at the top.

Bel-Ray, Spectro, Motul and Motorex are all great brands. Truly, the advice about a fresh oil change is more important, however. Nearly any oil will work as long as you change it often. If you're going to abuse your bike by not changing the oil when you should, go with one of the better brands.

Thank you to everyone who replied with some good feedback. Really appreciate it.

And to everyone else, I feel bad for you seriously.. This forum is a place for people to share info and talk. Talking so negatively towards someone asking a simple question is sad. Hope you guys be better.

Anytime a "what oil" thread starts, this reply should be automatically posted, and the thread closed.

Dude:  This forum is ALSO a place to speculate wildly w/o any logic or facts involved, dish out and take some crap, poke the bear, annoy GuyB and ML512, and have some fun. If you'd have done a search on ANY motorcycle forum, you'd have seen that this topic has been mangled, quartered and drawn, flayed, boiled, and beaten to death literally hundreds of times.

Lighten up, Francis.

PS: I use Maxima on the race bikes and Rotella on everything else. As little as a 3-hour change interval (2 t gearbox ridden hard) to 10 hours on the 4Ts.

PPS: Around here, "STFU Noob" and "Moran" are terms of endearment.

Actually, when someone chimes in with “STFU, Noob!” …that’s pretty much the same as “Welcome to the neighborhood.” Laughing

A couple of things that may help you…

There’s an oil rating system and your engines require a specific oil rating…I think it’s a specific JASO spec that actually matters when selecting the correct oil for your engine(s). Once you’ve got that figured out, you’ll be surprised at what oils meet the spec and how affordable some of them are.

Ways to save $…Using RMATVMC pricing as an example, you can get a 5 liter bottle of really good oil for $63.88 or a liter for $17.78…that’s 10% saved by getting the bigger bottle. Another thing you can do is look at readily available oils that meet the specs that are a available at regular retail outlets and sometimes on sale for less than $20/gal.

Me…? I run what’s available for a good price and meets the specs or whatever the techs are putting in it. My KLRs have had everything in them from Motul to Suzuki to VP to Kawasaki oils in them. My CRFs have been VP and Honda oils…because that’s what’s in the race shop. My Husky has been on Bel Ray and Motorex. My KTM runs on whatever JR puts in it.

The point: there are A LOT of great oils out there. Find one that you can get for a price that’s acceptable.

Good luck.
