Hunter was completely bypassing the whoops several times.  That's gaining time.   No penalty.

What a crock of shite....

Sounds like Hunter was getting desperate.

Some guy on Instagram said they said "Jett" over 600 times in both Race day and the actual broadcast....WTH

Imagine admitting to people you counted that and putting it out like it was some kind of own

It’s not just about passing when you re-enter the track.  It’s about gaining an advantage. They have penalized this in the past for accelerating off track.  You can clearly see Hunter is slightly accelerating and definitely going faster then when he awkwardly rolled sloppily through the whoops.  The first time when he clipped a tough block look at the gap with Jason before entering and then after re-entering the track.  It’s much bigger.  I don’t give a shit that it was Hunter.  I just hate that the AMA does not equally hand out punishment.  They have clearly been swayed in the past on rider/team status.  One of the reasons I have nothing but contempt for the AMA.  ….and yes…Barcia should have been penalized too.

Wonder where that fella who said he’d put money on Vince, but then backed out when multiple people took him up on his offer is today.

Wish I could remember his account name.

It was jaysimpson.  I straight up said I would take the bet.  I said $1000 with an intermediary to hold the money.  He backpedaled so hard it was hilarious.  The only place Vince has finished anywhere near top level riders lately is in a very small pool on Arenacross style WSX tracks with no real governing body(FIM) enforcing any rules.  He was allowed to take other riders out, cut the track, cross jump dangerously, and offer a bounty on JB.  He’s a fucking joke to the sport and his “supporters “ just want chaos vs good mostly clean racing.  Like vince they don’t care who gets hurt…unless it is their rider.  Prior to A1 some of the Lawrence fans defended vince…that changed real fast.  In 450 SX the riders are so much better, the tracks somewhat more room than WSX, and the races long enough that even with a good start vince will get shuffled way back.  I’m sticking with what I said before the first race and it is aging well….for me.IMG 0651

Barcia definitely should have gotten a penalty. It was hilarious when he went off track to make a pass, then RC says he did that right there he didn’t pass anyone or gain an advantage. I was sitting there wondering if we were watching the same race.

Is JBone still doing the liaison thing with the AMA? Did he have any input into penalties for skipping sections from the last race?
I only saw the race broadcast footage. I felt the first Hunter exit was fine, but like many others, I thought the next one was suspicious. After a couple days I realize I didn’t see what caused it and it wasn’t mentioned as happening again by the announcers so I figure both were “racing incidents” and could be explained/argued by re-entering the track in a safe location.
Most supercross tracks have open sections in the tuff blocks at the bottom of the bowl turns and in past races the racers that go off track in a rhythm will get up to speed beside the track and enter at the end of rhythm sections. The safety advantage is they are now going the same speed as racers on the track, not off the jump or whoop rhythms.
In any rider’s defense, entering the whoops from the side in San Fran puts you in the bottom of the transition, moving perpendicular to the track to be able to get between the tuff blocks, all while in the slimy, no traction mud. Then they would have to try and turn up a whoop and gain forward momentum. The probability of getting stuck and losing significant positions plus being in the way of other racers while stuck was probably more than 50/50.

Agree with most everything you are saying, but this is always going to be a mess in SX.  In reality, the ONLY time you wouldn't be 'gaining an advantage' would be if you reentered at the same place you left the track.  But with the constraints of the indoor tracks and lanes being so close together, it's just about impossible to have that happen most of the time.  So we are left with subjective decisions and really no actual definition of 'advantage' that will please everyone, or really anyone depending on if it is their favorite rider or not........

Anyone who skips any section gains an advantage over the riders behind them who are racing on the track.  If they skip a section instead of going back to where they exited the track, the advantage could be pretty big.  Using whether or not they gained position on the rider in front of them is less than half the story, I think.

Exactly, Friese gained a position whilst cutting the track.

Hunter went off the side of the whoops twice and never gained position or time. So no penalty was given.

I never buy in to the ”gain an advantage” thing.

the same second you get off the track and earn a tenth doing it you have gained an advantage even if you kept your position.

in US people seem to focus on the position when riders go of the track, not time gained/lost. Against the other riders on track that went through the section as you should.

Yup.

The issue I have is if you fuck up. Your ment to lose time. Riders ride along the track side and re-enter just behind where they are. So they only lose 2 seconds of time instead of 30.

The biggest case of this happening was mxon Italy a couple years ago. Alessandro lupino came into the 1st corner about 7th had a massive moment. Went off track and re-entered in the 3rd corner in 6th and got a tiny penalty. He should have come out in last. He negated his mistake by cutting the track and returning in his position. To me that's gaining an advantage coz he should have been last.

We need stop boxes or something so you actually lose time when going off track.

If you exit the track you either have to re-enter where you left.

Or you have to come to a complete stop for like 3 seconds before re-entering.

So often you see guys cruise a whole section so they don't lose time from there mistake.

Another blatant abuse was the time Jeremy Martin cut an entire hill off at Millville.

yeah but he didnt pass anyone, so it was okay!
Just ignore the part where he cut 5-10 seconds off of the track, and 10-20 seconds of the mistake if he had rejoined the track and had to go up the hill from a standstill.

Agree with you on everything except having to re-enter the track at the same place you left it.  In most cases it's just too dangerous or there is no room to do that.     There does need to be a time penalty.    I like the stop and wait idea.

It needs to be enforced no matter who the rider/team is.
