How many people have thought about jumping back to the 2 stroke?

i was thinking of getting an 09 YZ 250, the costs of maintaining my 08 450 for the race season are getting to be too much
anyone else have the same problem? top end rebuilds under 300(AU) does sound alot better

what do you mean jumping back, ive always kept 2 strokes around me, man you gotta love a 2006 KDX200, one of my faves, four strokes are junk! thats gonna piss someone off im sure.

was thinking of having a 450 for racing and a 250 2 stroke for practice so i wouldnt put a bunch of hours on the 450 motor as they are to expensive to repair.

I did - I got a 2005 YZ250 and rode it a few months. I didn't like it so I traded for a barely ridden 2006 CRF450. I love the four strokes.

Got my kid a 2008 YZ250 for this season.
If he likes it, I might get one for myself and get rid of my 450...

I never jumped back, because I never jumped off. Since I could care less about the aspect of pissing the furthest during a 5 lap race, riding motocross has always been just a leisure activity. To me, it's about having fun, being on a track, while on two-wheels in the company of friends. I don't need a 450 four-stroke to have fun. I ride YZ125 and get just as much enjoyment out of it as I would a four stroke, without the extra expenses (its cheep and im a tightwad graduate student at this moment in my life). Plus, I love the way two-strokes sound and their light weight.. And since I don't care much for the racing aspect, I don't have to worry about being underpowered or dumping tons of performance parts into my bike. As long as my bike is running good, I can't ask for anything more. Well, besides a pair of black excell rims and maybe a graphics kit.

yeah after last season im left with a massive bill for head work on the 450
just not sure if i should get another 450 or mod out a 250 2 stroke, seeing as ive never ridden one, our tracks are pretty tight compared to US ones

Last 2stroke was in 2002 RM 125. Just picked up a 2003 CR 250 and I love it. Going through the motor this month, crank, topend, main bearings, v-force reeds. Can't wait to get back on it its suck a blast to ride especially on big open tracks where it can rev-out and not sign off like a 4 stroke.

Everyday......I'm debating on selling my YZ250F and getting one of the many 2 stroke 250's I see on Craigs List or keeping it and just putting some more money into it? It's a fun bike but, I know that a 2 stroke 250 would be as much or more fun (not to mention that it takes less $ to keep one running). I struggle with it all the time.

There is a 2001 YZ250F and a 2004 CRF250 in our garage. Those were the first four strokes we bought, also the last. I've always been a fan of the 125's and thought the double displacement 13,500rpm road race engine would make for the perfect bike. Wasn't too far off on my thinking until they both scattered. They are both rebuilt and we will probably keep them forever, partly because they were first year bikes and secondly as a reminder of our bad judgement of buying them in the first place!!Laughing Fun bikes no doubt, but to me MX is all about the two stroke. Last project bike, the garage sale special, purchased and freshened up for just under 2 grand. 2002 CR250.

Funny you say that. I've been waiting for years for the 4th gen to be built. I know Honda is actually building a CR to race the overseas 2 stroke series. But now that they are a big part of squashing 2 strokes in general, I won't ever buy a new Honda again. Ever, even if they are forced to build them again because of demand. So they lost loyalty by looking at short term, not long term. Anyone doubting that I've been a Honda guy for years and years, should look at the bikes sitting in my garage. I'm now sold on KTM, and that will be my next bike. Of course, unless Maico or TM etc gives me a good deal for running the race series.

Best thing to do with a 2007 KX250F? Jerk the engine and sell it on Ebay! Then have the engine cradle altered and have Williams build you a 149.6 cc stroker motor out of a 03 KX125. If the damn radiator shop would ever get through building my radiators this one will be on the track.

I only have ridden 450 due to my 6'2" size, but I'm curious on the maintenance as I agree maintaining 4 stroke is more expensive, but multiple top end rebuilds in a season, how the heck are you riding that thing? I did a rebuilt after 2 years of hard riding and everything looked good.. But did it anyways.. I ride vet rpo races.. about 14 a year.. Do the 250f wear out quicker due to higher RPM's or the idiot in the rev limiter even in the air on every jump.?

Thought about switching last year off my crf250r, then picked up an 06 YZ125. Rode them both the same weekend and sold the CRF one week later and been braaapping every since. Would like to make a stroker out of it sometime soon though.

Im still on a 250 two stroke. Ive ridden plenty of 250f's and 450's, but I have more fun on the two stroke. Plus I like the sound. I have no problem with tractors, just not my thing.

Does L.A. Sleeve still have the parts to turn a mid-80's CR250 into a 310cc??? Add some flywheel weight and THAT would be a fun, fun bike.

I have been on a 250F since 2006. Just sold it and I will buy another one, BUT I will also buy a two stroke parallel to the F (as soon as I land in the US), and I will compare the two. The big question is if I should aim for a 125 or 250 smoker? These question are torturing me for the moment. I wish I was starving or something, then this wouldn't be a "problem" Smile

I already did it. I had an 05 KTM525 and LOVED it. I have an 05 RM250 now and I want another four stroke in the worst way. Until I ride my RM and remember how perfect it is. I still miss my 525 but will be keeping my RM.
