Does anybody notice that the sport feels noticeably different this year? It seems like its been building extremely fast over the last year or two to come to this point. Recently a few people I know who casually knew about mx/sx have become hard core fans all of a sudden.
The media/influencer/youtube/ig space has exploded recently. Not that long ago there was the usual vitalmx, racerx, gypsey tales…etc to watch on youtube. This year theres so much content I cant even watch it all. One of my favorite new shows on youtube is called hole shots that just appeared a few weeks ago. Theres like 10 different similar shows floating around. You also have all of the different rider youtube accounts, js7 recently came out of retirement and has his own show, RC and Villopoto have their own show, daniel blaires new show just dropped last night, cianciarulo even interviewed chase sexton. On instagram theres meme pages like fucc vince friese, parody voice over accounts like moto bakin, technique breakdowns, all kinds of different stuff. Then you get into podcasts and theres so many Ive been able to listen to nothing but moto podcasts at work for 8 hours a day from monday until I’m typing now. Lewis phillips just got on to another new podcast this week, plus another vital podcast dropped this week too where ML was on.
Add on top of that all of the new brands entering the sport from stark last year to this year with beta and triumph to ducati next year. Then you have ama expanding its series with smx, world supercross, india just created its own supercross series, arenacross just came back, I just saw bogle racing in a united kingdom arenacross series. Its wild! Ive never seen it like this before where theres so much going on and it really feels like the sport is taking that next step.
*edit- one last thing they mentioned on one of the podcasts I believe it was matthes podcast that they now have a spanish broadcast of the races that started this year. Great idea!
Quantity yes... quality
Keep moto core.
I think it’s a knock on effect from the Covid sales boom and the sport shifting away from the metal mulisha X-treme sports image it had in the early 2000s.
BLM & stick & ball sports bs not standing for the flag turned a lot of people off. NFL nobody watches it hardly anymore. NBA is soo boring. Baseball is Really good tho. The increase of content is just people that don’t want to work for a Living. It only draws the Real stupid fan that don’t even ride. The 1st 3 Nationals only hv 20 % of the race spectators of the late 90,s. Clay oval stock car racing has more new fans than Mx by a lot. 40 900 hp cars drifting , rubbing, 10 bucks to get in. A little track in Fonda, Ny. Rt on the Tomahawk River Had extended bleachers the place was packed with everyone on there feet. More spectators than both Cal. Nationals. Drivers r Super cool & not stuck up like the spoiled baby riders.

Hole shots and the motocross network have putting out some good stuff its getting my attention.
lol.
Except Nascar and drag racing is dying a slow sad death. Nothing to do with BLM or The Flag... Motocross is bigger than America and the weird flag shit and weird military industrial complex advertising round is weird, the things you seem to think are really important are the cringiest shit out there... But ok...
We love the cool shit - I love that all the worlds flags are flown above the gates - the retro, cancer and st Judes rounds, the reduction in the overly sexualisation of the Monster Girls (that shit was cringy in 2010)
Moving from a overly sexualised bro marketting to corporate racing marketting is a large part of the reason.
What does this actually mean though
There were a few BLM butt patches during the 2020 SX season and nobody said shit. Literally everything you said in your post is wrong.
Agree with OP. It feels like the sport is getting bigger and more professional every year. I think the SMX series and the cooperation between SX and outdoors has accelerated it. I like where we are at and the direction of the sport. More money going to the riders, more brands entering the sport, more races in different parts of the country, less cringey moments/branding.
I love the diversity of nationalities racing here. We have racers coming from all over the world to race our series. Jo, the Lawrences, Prado, Ferrandis, Vialle, Ken, Tanti (sp?), Freddie, Enzo, etc… This is definitely attracting new fans. There was a line of Japanese fans (not industry personnel) waiting in line just to take a picture of Jo’s Honda. Tons of people walking around the pits speaking different languages.
Lots of people back to watching NFL this year, me included. Didn’t think I would. Said it was Motocross and Rodeo only. Kinda changed my mind for some reason.
NFL ~ yeah, I’ve been watching a little this year.
NBA ~ not a fucking chance !! They can suck it
Another Aussie with no sense of patriotism. Our military and flag is important to us mate, and should be to you too... you'd be speaking f-ing Japanese right now if it wasn't for our military saving your asses. The military appreciation round is awesome and honestly the sport could do more to show appreciation to our warfighters.
Yes they did. Say that to the Police and The State Police and The National Guard . And they laugh in your face. True Nascar is dead. Clay oval racing with 40 cars drifting the whole track bumping & rubbing racing for every inch. It’s a battle that last 40 laps or whatever the race is. A Mx battle is usually 1 - -4 corners. Indy 500 was insane last yr. Biggest race in the World & always will be. Remember I go to every state & talk with people of any race or classification there is. People don’t like the blm attacks on America or the influence of the west lib trash Elitist. Tell us what a women is now Cal. & the west. Haha you should hear women in the rest of the country, what they say about the west. It’s pretty bad & honestly nobody cares what anyone says in the west. Look at the biggest turn outs in Mx there in the Midwest, north east, and south east.
I’m sure this post will convince him
If only someone besides Feld could promote the sport…I’m so sick of the “dare devil”, “monster truck”, image they try and give this sport…I think that is what is really preventing the sport from taking another step.
With that said…I have no personal benefit from the sport growing…and I honestly preferred it small, less corporate…more of a grass roots feel. But that’s just me being selfish, many people stand to benefit from growing the sport…
On the reduction of the oversexualization, I agree.
The bad news.... A segment want's OnlyFans as sponsor. I hope families turn away if that happens.
Agreed. We're a joke in the eyes of the world. A step above Monster trucks, 2 steps above the Wheelie boys on the news.
SX is getting to be more and more like one big practiced aerial circus for the 3-second attention span social media crowd. Not good.
Pit Row
Drag racing is bigger than ever, not sure what you are talking about there. The NHRA had ridiculous turnouts this year. PDRA and other organizations have exploded in recent years as well... YouTube has really brought it back.
Weird flag shit? That ain't gonna go over well haha. People are proud of where they are from, nothing wrong with that comrade.
My partner who I have been with for over a decade barely watched MX/SX the whole time despite religiously watching a lot of sports like MotoGP and F1, ever since she found Deegan/Reeds channel she has been hooked.
The sport is changing it is growing and leaning towards the elite end of Motosports, people who know how elite the riders are know, the MotoGP guys know it F1 guys know it so it's slowly getting the attention it deserves.
Jase from Gypsy also brought up a good point about The Hunter brothers showing off their new toys on social media, he said that is a big deal and huge positive for the sport because people who have no idea about the sport will now recognize these guys are getting paid big dollars which in it self will bring more attention, I truly believe Jett as a personality and the wealth he's about to receive will transcend this sport to the next level.
Good times ahead.
yeah - It's the military industrial complex marketting round that's it. America has by far the highest military marketing budget in the world and by far the highest lobbying amount from military contractors... Its an industrial complex no longer functioning to protect anything but wealth. Thats it. It is marketing you are falling for so when politicians continue to throw your money at a system of greedy contractors to steal oil and blah blah blah - you can't help but think 'yeah thats a great idea, military rules'
Good on the military employees for doing their job in the industrial machine. But like it's just a job, and mostly, usually it is done out of desperation not out of patriotism... Why do you think the military target underprivileged schools when recruiting...
Have some objectivity mate, you're embarrassing yourself with your uninformed jingoism.
And yes we would be speaking Japanese if not for the Americans, we know that, it doesn't discount any of the true statement above. Thankyou for the service of all those servicemen and women who served in WW1 and WW2.
Well then you hv to thank the Oneida Indian tribe for defeating the British and declaring our independence. Let’s not forget killing 90 million Indian children & women. But you couldn’t defeat the men. That’s there’s Indian nations with the nation. Both my grandpa,s r world war 2 & total cowerd pussies. Wouldn’t stand up for their own daughter & grand children. Who sleeps in until 07.55 am or 08.05 when there own base is attacked. Couldn’t defeat the Japanese so we dropped nuclear bombs on there cities to kill millions of civilians. I worked with ww2 guys at the biggest pipeline co in the world. Vietnam Vets r way more hardcore & tough. 911 attack response another joke. I went on a double date & had dinner in the North tower in 2000. Military is the biggest entitlement program in the country. 12,900 or 50k to hire them then the employer gets 40% of there gross revenue for an additional tax credit. There treated like babies ever push them & they crack like cheap glass. We fired every military guy we hired or they quit in 3 days on the world’s strongest hhg rig. If you know anything you would know it’s a propaganda machine. In trucking there the weakest link .but a 20+ yr brain washing compaign has everyone brainwashed. A small percentage of military r great the rest not so much. In 8 th grade 118 lbs I get jumped by 2 military guys I beat the crap out of them real bad. Women in the country say there worse than welfare people. With all there hand outs. I hv more combat exp than a lot of military. My uncle drove trk in Vietnam & was never shot . I was shot dozens of times s. Side Chicago. Funny none of the military guys ever had to go there.
yeah.. and lets go back to no TV coverage and 50k championship bonus
I personally ask people in NFL jerseys what team they play for and interrupt conversations about formula one to ask what generation mclaren F1 car they drive. Nobody should be allowed to be a fan of any sport unless they spend all of their free time and disposable income on being just ok at that sport like me in motocross. I’m so fuckin core bro.
A lot of local drag tracks seem to be closing, Atco and Etown come to mind, but I know there are a bunch of others as well. I don’t follow drag racing, but it feels to me the days of tuning your mustang in your own garage are kind of over? But I get it that professional drag racing is a show and a different deal.
Far more people saw the races when they were on espn. 98 the sport was at its peak. And on the verge of challenging stick& ball sports. But then Mx decided to target rich people. Design a 4-st any doush could ride. Increased the prices on everything because the rich r willing to pay 10k for a bike and 14 for a quart of oil. Remember a quart was 1.99 forever until the 4-st . I really don’t care what the pro,s do. I,m in it because I want to ride. Same as the local track hardly anyone knows a pro riders name. They just Love to ride. Way too much money is given to the pro,s and nothing at the local, regional level. 2 gun shots at this massive scum pit Miami truck stop a few minutes ago. That’s normal out here . Do you think the flag will be lowered tomorrow for the attack? It would be if it happened on a military base. A violent attack on the base with shots fired. Would b the national news. Out here it’s nothing
Wasn't trying to, I'm starting to think these Aussies are a bunch of woke, unpatriotic, a-holes. Or is it just all the Aussie a-holes on Vital?
Weege echoed this a bit on the Moto:60 show today. He was also relating it to the rise and popularity of Jett and how he has the chance to transcend the sport, thus bringing it to a more mainstream audience in the process. It’s all a perfect storm for the sport right now and we really need to appreciate what’s happening.
Maybe if stick and ball sports started pushing porn sites and energy drinks to kids it would grow as fast as moto is!!!
I think Moto is actually in its peak right now, we have a lot of really fast and likable guys in both classes and just tons of coverage everywhere I’m enjoying it honestly.
