If someone like Twisted can tune an ECU to reduce engine braking, they are doing that via ignition or fuel changes. Given flexibility with the app, seems like it could be something to play with. I would first make sure the idle is set correct, too low of idle will cause additional engine braking. Would probably add fuel at closed and low throttle openings as a starting point?
Riverfront in 2nd gear?
slip on installed, sounds amazing and for sure opens it up a bit. I also have the screen eliminator and I might drill some holes into the air box cover next. My twin air filters will be here Saturday.
What seat cover is that?

I don't think the app will give you the ability to reduce engine braking. It is very limited. In order to really tap into the bike, I am sure Twisted and other engine builders will go to the Vortex ECU as they have always done before.
Throttle syndicate.
Thanks a ton for the info. The X is something I may consider. But I am waiting for the 50th anniversary edition to arrive. I wonder will the X come in the 50th anniversary edition also?
I do not understand why it’s taking so much longer for the 50 anniversary editions to arrive, maybe they decided to change some features or add more features or is changing something with the air box and or exhaust? I wonder this because how hard is it to make different graphics or silver rims?
I wonder if bikes with more engine braking is more easier to stall the engine?
MMX sand track.
I believe the 50 years anniversary is the same. Here i could get the anniversary edition early in december but not the regular one until February.
Hey ML. I just watched your shootout vid and wondered if you did all the testing with the intake mud blocker thing in that Keefer talked about? He said that it really choked down the engine and I was just curious if you had removed it or not for the shootout.
Has anyone compared the throttle cam on the odi grips to a stock 2019-2023?
Im sure the 250/450 part is the same
Happy New Year Everyone.
I’ve been riding this 24’ KX450 A LOT on my holiday and sure the airbox is small/choked up but the sealing has been decent if you oil your filter correctly. The key is to make sure you slide the outer portion of the filter plate into the airbox correctly and get those plastic pins inside the holes, then snap in. I’ve rushed it once and “almost” screwed it up so it can happen. I’ve seen one buyer suck dirt and Kawasaki warranty’d it but it looked like the filter didn’t have much oil on it.
As far as Michael doing shootout with grommet in, that would be KX450 comparison suicide. 😂 It’s really slow with grommet in (almost like ISDE type muffler feel). Twin Air is making filters (I’ve been running a couple) and they also will seal a little better. I’m running an open cage from Justin Kopcak (find him on Instagram) and that helps low end snap too. The cage is 3D printed like the photo above in this thread.
I did an podcast/update on the KX450 before I went on holiday and that is up on my site but mapping the stock ECU doesn’t help engine braking. There is a map on my site that I’ve ran that helped power but not engine brake feel. Im currently on a TD Vortex ECU and that has made HUGE difference in torque feel and overall power output. I’ve noticed that the KX450 has the tallest 1st gear known to man and is actually usable in some tight corners of moto tracks (if you can believe that)! I do have to ride this KX in second more than YZ450 but 2nd gear is so long that I'm used to it now. I’ve gone up to a 51T to help response down low (and recovery feel when I screw up).
Vibration is still an issue with me as I notice more through my hands/feet than a YZ but similar to a CRF.
For me, this is a better KX450 than 23’. I like chassis more and I don’t mind a slower 450 feel as long as it doesn’t feel heavy. With the mods I’ve done to ours, the bike doesn’t feel heavy. It did feel a little heavy pre Vortex. I’d rather add power (if needed) than try to take away. That is a little more tricky to do. -KK
Happy New Year
Does the 23 cover fit the 24? I don’t see the 24 option on their site.
I appreciate all this info. We are seeing the same thing. With a Pro Circuit exhaust and Vortex ECU ....Bueno!
It should. Kawasaki has used the same seat pan for years.
What about just a Vortex? Trying to avoid buying a pipe.
Pit Row
Think you’re going to need a pipe…
Drill some holes in the air box cover, get a screen less cage, get the vortex mapped, and twist the freaking throttle.
its a 450 not a 1974 125.
i got passed like I was tied to an anchor by one of those slowwww 24s last weekend.
Update number 3….. I installed and ran my pro circuit t6 slip on and what a huge difference along with the jkop cage and a twin air filter. The twin air filter is bigger and the lip seems to be a little better and that will help with sealing. The biggest thing is to ensure you install the air filter correctly and ensure the clips are holding that cage in place.
This looks like my choice for MX/Mammoth and maybe even LL's in 2024...? Time for TeamGreen to get back on a Green Machine.
I'm torn between a 50 Year Anniversary/El Hombre Edition...or...an X...where I leave the bike on it's kickstand at the starting gate and get on it -just before- the gate drops...?
An El Hombre/TeamGreen/Pro Circuit KX450X "Baja Beach Bash Off Road-MX Edition"?
Does it make less HP than a Suzuki? Just wondering 😂
Stock pipe is too restrictive. You will need a pipe to uncork it.
Anyone got the scoop on when FMF might be releasing pipes? I'm eyeing just a slip on for my 450x. Also Ive been eyeing my 22sr and 450x curious if the 22 PC muffler will fit onto the stock 2024 head pipe but I haven't bothered to try it yet. They are awfully close in mounting location.
That sucks. Anyone tried to modify the stock muffler?
I don’t own one of the new bikes yet, but I heard from someone “in the know” that removing the baffle inside the muffler will give you the same benefits as buying a slip on. I suppose if you were planning to buy a slip on anyways, it would be a cheap experiment to knock the baffle out and see what happens.
