What yearly amateur races are worth the trek in your opinion and why?
What yearly amateur races are worth the trek in your opinion and why?
Depends what you consider worth it. Best competition, Not counting Loretta’s I’m guessing?
Mini o’s, Daytona, freestone, and spring a ding ding.
Baja brawl is a good one too but more of a party than the others and less race focused imo.
Mid 30’s with no hopes of a pro career so more focused on the experience. Wether it’s on an iconic track like Mammoth or just a cool event to be at like Big Hill Jam doesn’t matter to me.
Most Lorettas regional qualifiers are pretty good. Especially if they are at a pro national track.

Any race that Motoplayground promotes is a great time. Spring a ding and Ponca. JS7 is a great race, but really drags out. Same with Loretta's qualifiers, always some great racing.
Vet Fest at Red Bud is my favorite, but I’m old.
Hands down ....
The 125 Dream Race @ Washougal
If you go to one, you'll agree.
Red Bud the most racing of any race. 2 days on the pro track& a practice day, 2 nights of racing. Millville has a practice day then pro track but no big hill. 2nd day you get to race on the big hill drop. Unadilla has a big turn out for am day also. Pa. Has some big races in the fall. AM day is the best experience imo. Best setup, track, prep, riders from all over, etc and it’s a Pro National.
Ironman GNCC......
This one is on the list for sure
Always wanted to enter a class at Diamond Don's vintage race
Those days look to be over unfortunately
Red Bud amateur day
The prep is more vet friendly on Vet Fest weekend than it is on the National Amateur Day weekend, but, you don't get to stay to watch the national.
I'm definitely going to Vet Fest this year!
Now that the RMX group has taken over World Mini, it's definitely worth the trip. They own Mesquite MX now and run a tight ship with top notch track prep. If you're wanting real LLMX practice, any of their events are worth hitting.
Daytona for RCSX, Day in the Dirt South, Mammoth.
First time doing the Brawl this year and man those pit bikes in the middle of the night pissed me off. The track and racing were amazing though. Pretty sure I'll be going back but may park in a different area.
Pit Row
Bummer! Looked like a very cool event and I never made it out there.
Loretta’s, Freestone, Ponca, Mini O’s, Spring a Ding, Some of the regionals
Glad Ponca made it back. World Mini is trying to get back to former glory.
Go for the one with the fewest classes, the longest motos, and the least amount of "money grab".
It's amazing how we got to this stage where you not only pay for an entry and admission but a ridiculous amount of other fees.
MAMMOTH.
Unadilla if they run an event on the national track.
Also, High Point did a grass track event a couple years ago that looked epic. They just marked the track and sent riders out. No prep. Old school Unadilla style.
World Vets at Glen Helen.
Freestone JS7 race is awesome, I like the track, facility and the way it all operates very smoothly. Mini O's is much the same, for us in Ca it's pretty far but with that being said, it's my favorite event. Lorettas imho is not even close, I spent less money going to Mini O's racing both sx / mx, nevermind the travel for qualifiers and everything that goes into it. I think it's a sick money grab from the royal family. Mammoth is fun, our luck isn't good there so it's hard to love but it's cool. The in / out parking lot staging chaos sucks though.. Badly. Cal Classic is a great race, usually held at Pala, not as organized as JS7 or Mini O's but at a great track with a little less competition (getting better though).
I suggest going to any that you can make it to, all fun and good times with other like minded people.
Probably none of them, but Mammoth is really cool.
Daytona, Mini O's, Day in the Dirt Down South or OG if you're west coast. High Point has a vet race called Big Dave Vet Homecoming that is super cool. Mammoth is on my wish list.
Yep, if you can pick only one, Freestone. Don’t think I ever missed a Whitney Spring Classic, Freestone is about as close as it gets.
Yeah as long as you like to be charged for breathing the air and taking a piss. I don't plan to do another one of their events again. They turned what was a great track at Ponca into a piece of crap.
Daytona. I drive 14 hours for it. Id drive further. Aside from day in the dirt, freestone, and ponca, I've done the rest of the big ones. Daytona is an absolute blast. So surreal sitting on the line looking at the stands.
Rookie, im 2 hours from high point and rode the vet race once (last year). They cut too much of the track out in my opinion for it to be worth any kind of drive. I drive 6 to red bud vet fest though.
Lorettas isnt worth it any more because of the nickle and diming it takes to make it happen. Pretty useless unless you're a top prospect. The stress alone it puts on people can suck the fun right out of it.
