Because the downvote is anonymous and the upvote is not, it encourages downvotes an discourages upvotes obviously. I just always figured the ones running this place like it negative and angry.

How about random surprise days where they are public? Or just make it totally random if they are public or secret, sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't. Or after the same user down votes you a certain number of times it becomes public?
Basically what I'm going for is some mechanism that will further enrage the unstable people while entertaining the rest of us. I personally enjoy watching two grownups who know nothing about each other trying to win an insult war on a message board.
I think the up and down votes should both be anonymous…but that each user should have a “user score” under their user name calculated by the number of up votes they received minus the total down votes they’ve received….
Trolls would be very obvious…and therefore much easier to ignore…

I'll use this analogy: A friend of mine and I are huge Rush fans. ...But, he also loves The Grateful Dead, who I openly and mercilessly trash as the 3rd worst band of all time.... behind Nirvana (#2) and Guns-N-Roses (#1). He doesn't get all bent out of shape and write me off over it. Too many fragile people lose their shit and hate you if you 100% don't agree with them these days. They act as if a "dislike" or "thumbs-down" is going to somehow erase you. Guess what, we all have different likes, dislikes and views. I prefer hanging with people who can sack-up and take a difference of opinions.
