We visited with Chip Jones, the Innovation Director for the Action Sports Category, and got much more info on the new Nike AirMX boot.

The good news? We share...

I like those boots! I think they look good and look as if they are comfortable, little carbon fibre on them too, not bad!

Wow!! It's got to be so nice to have a company like nike spend probably 10's of thousands of dollars or more to research and design a boot to perfectly fit your foot, riding style and technique. It's crazy what they put into this project for these guys. And we wonder why these guys have a level of god complex.

Well, you figure a pair of Nike Air Jordan Collezione's run $280-$300 a pair, that would put the pricing of this boot at around $1,500.00. Sign me UP!!!!

Good interview Gibby....Thanks.

All those pictures were of the outside of the boot. Not the inside.

Looks like a really nice boot and a lot of thought has gone into it and I am sure it fits like a dream. The only thing I notice is that there isn't much traction on the sole which would be important in a mud race. Traction in mud isn't important unless you crash.....lol

I really like the red/blk/wht ones James has been wearing. Don't really care for the 6.0 logo but its all about the function.

Form follows function.

I suppose you can make it look nice when you've got the boot structure you want.

Not sure if i could choose between Nike and these .

That is cool.

40 people working on them part time for one year. Nike spent more on building those boots than Suzuki and L&M spent on their motorcycles.

I'm not with the color scheme on the toe area, but they look like very well put together boots. Maybe they just need time to grow on me.

Seeing them up-close, I like them even more.

I am very surprised that Nike opted to enter the MX market with a boot instead of the standard pants/gloves/jersey. Seems like the investment into simple gear would have been much easier as a boot is far more complex.

Hopefully, if they do bring them to market they dont lose all their benefit during the process of making them affordable.

They look pretty cool close up. I hope they fit better then Nikes' attempt at hockey skates, though.

Good for the sport of MX/SX

Very cool. Great Interview.

I'm all for it. I like Nike and I like Ryan. Off topic..but,

Sounds like Dungey was very involved in developing these since
08....my questions is isn't there some sort of contract stipulation.
Gaerne was paying Ryan the last 2 years to develop a product for a
potential competitior.

Not throwing anyone under the bus, just thinking out loud. Even a 30%
discount sponsorship contract has a part about not collaborating with
a competitor.

Yeah, that interview sounds like a serious implication of Dungey not playing fair with Gaerne. But I don't know what his deal was; maybe he paid full price for the Gaerne's...maybe not.

I can't figure out how Stewart worked out a deal to wear them even though he's sponsored by Alpinestars.

Nice informative interview GuyB. I like the looks of them. 25% lighter then anything on the market. That it’s huge!

I agree. I've been wearing Tech 6s or 7s for the last few years because they're lighter than the 8s I used to wear. Lighter boots are easier on the knees, in my opinion. When you swing your leg around it's like a pendulum, make it heavier and you put more stress on the joints.

I've heard they've had real problems with these boots snagging on the bike. They're so desperate to be different, that the design snags, no matter how much they dremel the boots at the track.

I probably would wait until they were on the market for at least a year, maybe more, before I'd buy a pair.
