If you hide it well enough and it does notify the thief maybe they will ditch it allowing you to get it back easier. For the price I'd say it's worth a shot.
Also there are videos on how to remove the speaker from the airtag pretty easily so the thief can't ping your airtag when they get a notification.
How are people attaching these? Double stick tape?
I would use that 3m double sided heavy duty stuff. I wonder if you could stick it in seat foam or something covert as well. Are airtags water proof though? I have some but on my kids keys, wallets, etc. so never in the elements.
The ones I’ve mounted, I used gorilla glue and duct tape. I have 3m double sided tape but figured glue would hold better. Pretty sure I can pop it off with a putty knife. You change the battery from the top as I recall so glued on shouldn’t be a big deal. I wish they were flat on the back then double sided tape would probably work, but the tags are rounded on the back.

I can’t get my Amazon to load but they sell really trick little black cases that mount flat and the lid screws on. Very unassuming and stealthy.
edit: found them
Hello! I want to share my story! In 2020, my old friend asked me to borrow a bike Honda VT-750. I asked him if he had a driver's license, in response he showed them to me. I was still worried about my bike and decided to throw an Air Tag into it. He promised not to leave the side chapels of our city. The next morning I woke up and noticed that the bike was 100 km from our city. As it turned out, he got drunk at night and knocked down two pedestrians. Thanks to Air Tag, we quickly found him together with the police. As it turned out, he did not have a driver's license, and he showed me with free drivers license template where he just entered his data. I was in complete shock!!! Fortunately, those two pedestrians survived. And since that day, I no longer trust anyone with my bike!
Wife gave me four for Christmas. Have them on two of my bikes, one ATV and my tractor. I need to get a few more. You hear all the time they are easy to find which they probably are. But they don’t hurt. If you forget to close you garage door and wheelie boy drives by, doubt he will take time to pull plastic or off and find it before it goes in the back of the truck. Once it goes in the back of the truck, phone will let you know. Good insurance doesn’t hurt either.
I actually keep Airtags on all my bikes, double sided taped in the airbox. I figure no thief is ever going to change the filter and there's a free flow gap there as well. We have a lot of theft in our area so I have them on anything that has wheels including my flatbed trailer.
If you have a AirTag, to get the bike back you’ll have to go vigilante. Most police departments won’t do shit.
I had 3 taken. Tracked one down and took it back at gun point. I then called the detective to have him remove it from the stolen data base/registry or what ever. He asked why I didn’t call him first. I told him I doubt they would have done anything. He agreed
Old thread but not sure if anyone mentioned you can easily take the speaker out. It took me 1 minute literally. Look on youtube. That way if they have an iPhone that notifies them that an AirTag is in their proximity then at least they can’t have it beep to find it. Might slow them down enough for you to finish tying the noose….or loading the 12 gauge.
kinda looks like it belongs.
With the AirTags you guys have, can you view where the item is on a map no matter how far you are located from it? Or do you have to be within a certain distance from the AirTag itself ?
Air Tags are only visible when within range of an Apple device. If it goes out of range from your iPhone, it will still ping a location from someone else's iPhone if it's in their range.
Edit: If there is no Apple device within range of the Air Tag = No location ping.
Thank you!
Most thiefs are hip to airtags these days.
Yea..maybe. I just hid it enough, along with maybe it taking long enough to get Torx bits, to find it and get to it that it gives me enough time follow them.
Insurance is the biggest scam ever invented....try filing a claim for anything and they'll fight you tooth and nail to pay out but God forbid you miss your monthly payment.
You can pay for YEARS on car and homeowners insurance and never use it but do you get anything back as a result? No ....not till you have to use it and then things get sticky. Now that's not 100% of the time but it's a lot more prevalent to get screwed by them by not getting near what you've paid for....just my opinion they finance what your claim is by raising your rates in some cases.
I have paid my hidollar insurance on time for years and had to fight like hell to get a settlement after hurricane and they denied my 6 dirtbikes that were totally submerged in saltwater. And because I have a mortgage the insurance money went to my mortgage company that says I have to fix everything before I get money. Does that make sense? I'm out 150k as of today and still lost so many irreplaceable items all my personal belongings, ours and kids things like school and family pics, yearbooks, wedding pics. Many laptops, peleton, onewheel, playstation 1-4 etc. I'm supposed to get 100k back but that covers half maybe. I lost property worth 150k and about same amount for an investment and insurance running me around. Now my insurance went up and life costs so much more than ever now I don't know how people survive anymore. I would snap if someone stole my bikes. Is there a tracker for Android?
Pit Row
Every one talking about INS, that's great till you go to use it and they tell you it will put a scar on my record..
In 52 years, I have only had one INS claim. That sucked, made me feel like a lair and a thief.
Ah. Thats horse shit. Im living proof thats horse shit. Maybe with some insurance companies its an accurate statement but not allstate.
I just had my 21 works edition and 23 yz450 stolen 4 weeks ago. ALLSTATE took pretty damn good care of me. Paid me very fairly on my WE and covered my accessories. My yz was mostly stock besides a few small things and they paid me more than the msrp that i paid and here in ohio, if i replace the bike within 30 days, they'll reimburse me for my tax and title fees. Took 3.5 weeks from theft to being paid. My original adjuster sent my claims to a "motorcycle specialist" for values. He called me and is a fan of the sport and even used to race in PA alot. He was very knowledgeable of my bikes which was very cool. I wasn't talking to someone who had to ask if it had license plates.
Im very very glad i had full coverage insurance on my bikes and ill never own one over 2k without it. For an extremely shitty situation, it turned out ok.
Good points about burying the airtag. Might get enough heads up that its moving before its too late.
Insurance is kinda like LASIK’s eye surgery. Don’t look for a 20 off coupon or cheapest you can find. Go with Farmers, Progressive, State Farm, name brand and steer clear of cheap no name insurance. No matter what kind of insurance your pay for, If you don’t believe me drive through the Texas Coast 10 months after a major Hurricane and you can tell who had bargain basement insurance………they still have blue tarps on their roof.
