I agree with the poster that said Nike wont be selling boots in 5 years. 100%. I dont know anyone who will buy motocross boots made by Nike, even if they are head and shoulders above all the other boots out there. Which they wont be. Especially if they bought off a Fox boot guy to make them. Im still happy for the exposure though.

What do you guys think about those new Jett boots?
ive heard they are really thin/light and take awhile to get used to.
I dig light boots, had a pair of those pro gp, the ones everyone used to wear way back, they are very sweet. The plastic is inside, so it looks like an all-leather boot, sans the stainless steel shin plate. Def the most comfy boots out there, like a glove. Probably not quite enough support for hardcore moto or supercross, unless you get a new pair whenever you feel like it! I would get them for sure if I didn't just do the pure moto thing.

Cassette is bad ass too. A 2-stroke that advanced, like the ossa trials bike, would be the best thing ever. Say a 175cc and a 325cc or something.

Oh my, the godzilla of athletic performance footwear enters the tiny motocross market. How will the sport survive this unwarranted incursion by a non-core interloper? Whistling

Why not?

I can honestly say I wasn't a huge fan of how the SG10's fit me (but was hoping to get used to them if I bought some), I hate the Alpinestars buckles on my Tech 10's enough to never buy them again until that's changed, and my Fox boots aren't the most cozy boots either.

What about going out and buying an unproven bike such as the KTM 350?
I am kind of with you on this. I was looking for mew boots and bought a pair of fox F3 boots. I can honestly say they were the worst boots I have ever rode with. So I was looking for another pair and everyone was raving about the sidi crossfire. I went to try them on and wow they were really uncomfortable they nipped my foot when I was bending at the ankle. I ended up with a pair of boots called Forma dominators from a little know company. Italian made and prob the best boots I have ever rode in like wearing a pair of slippers with awesome protection.

I am all for Nike coming in to the sport with new products.

You really think a company like Nike would get into the market if no one would buy them?

Yep, they did it with skateboarding early on.

Nike tried to get into skateboarding in the late '90s and flopped. It wasn't until they relaunched as Nike SB that it took off. Nike 6.0 is just an attempt to cash in on the percentage of kids that can't afford to pay $100-$500 for a pair of Dunk SB's.

I don't think any of Nike's past strategies will work in MX because it is a WAY smaller market than skateboarding, youth culture etc. It might make a cool window treatment at Zumiez to have a big picture of Bubba whipping it and wearing a pair of Nike 6.0 boots but the kids seeing it won't ever be purchasing a pair.....when the balance sheet shows consecutive quarters of loses in MX boots they will be gone.

I'm sure nike knows exactly what is spent a yr on the motocross boot market. I'm also sure they have a goal of obtaining a percentage of that market. Do you really think they are going after main stream kids at the mall? they will target MXers because that is where the market share is. Whether they are successful or not I don't know but they have picked two incredible athletes to start with and you can bet that kids all over the country and possibly the world are gonna start showing up with little swishes on their ankles after this product launch...IMO

Your'e right, they might be huge.....and they might fail miserably. I don't think it's a bad thing that they are making an MX boot. I personally have spent WAY too much money on Dunk SB's in my day so I'm not a Nike hater.

I just don't think with declining bike and aftermarket sales, plus consumer loyalty to core brands (Astars etc.), Nike will be able to make a profit. After all, that is what they are here to do. Unlike most MX companies they have stockholders and board members to answer to. The $20Mil plus they MIGHT bleed from this WILL be noticed by somebody who could care less about MX and pulls the plug overnight.

How they distribute this product will affect sales as well. Will Tucker or Parts sell them? I don't see NIke bending over and taking those guys' demands on margin....I also don't see Nike setting up a sophisticated distribution network to cater to the few shops left willing to stock tons of $500 boots.

You said it--FAD, and Faction brought a good point about distributors. They will need a distributor to get in the dealers. Some may not want to cut into the brands that they have invested in heavily. This may be like the same reason a-stars mx gear is not available in the usa, because the distributors do not want to cut in on thier own gear brands by bringing in another.

MX Boots for $500 are for suckers ripe for plucking. In my opinion only one boot is worth any substantial money, SIDI Crossfire. Even then it's $250 overpriced. For $500 you better get a boot that lasts three years with the same quality and support as the day you got it. $500 is a name, nothing more.
