Both RD and JS will be wearing Nike boots at A1. RD was always in the plan, JS is the surprise.

I think the sponsorship is a great deal for SX/MX... no doubt!

I like my A stars for me, but, to each his own.

this is how nike always breaks into a market. it's formulaic. they introduce a shoe and buy a couple of the biggest names (RD and JS, any others?) in the market they are trying to crack. when the shoe realizes profits they introduce the next item in same market. this is when people say, "oh, more mainstream companies are better for our sport" and buy their products. it's not better for our sport because the product costs the same as other products that have been core to the industry since inception and have no advancement other than ridiculous colors. next thing you know our chest protectors have dingleberries and gold on them. phil knight doesn't know the difference between a four stroke or a two stroke, he just wants your money.

So you've seen the boots and know they have no advantages to any boot offered at the current time? I know, Nike has made all of it's money sitting on low end products for high end price tags...they've never been at the forefront of technology and innovation.

I was going to buy a pair of SG10's or SG12's, but if Nike boots are made available to the public, I'll be buying those.

I'm not telling you to spend your money in a particular way but I would stick with a company that knows what there doing in motocross and that is Gaerne.

It's more important to look good than to be good.

Dude... Nike does make some sick 6.0s and some of the best basketball shoes ive played in were nike, but think about how much knowledge gaerne has over nike right now. Unless nike has been developing some space age shit for the last 10 years behind closed doors or something. Im sure Stewart will make them go fast though.

Why not?

I can honestly say I wasn't a huge fan of how the SG10's fit me (but was hoping to get used to them if I bought some), I hate the Alpinestars buckles on my Tech 10's enough to never buy them again until that's changed, and my Fox boots aren't the most cozy boots either.

What about going out and buying an unproven bike such as the KTM 350?

If we're solely basing our decisions on companies that have been "core to the sport", wouldn't that keep our choices limited and possibly decreasing over time? Nike 6.0 has been sponsoring amateur riders for several years now before developing a product. That seems pretty "core" for a company to do that has no products vested into that particular industry. Just my opinion though.

Brilliance! So what markets have you seen them break into in the last say 10 years?

Who gives a shit what Phil Knight knows about motorcycles. You think he knows all there is to know about every sport that Nike makes a shoe for?

Cannondale had the right idea all along, they just didnt have the capital to weather the formative years.

I got a chance to ride an MX400 back in '03 and I have a '10 YZF450 now.......the two are worlds apart. You can't even begin to compare them.

I'd imagine the Nike boots will look a bit funky at first but have some cool technology and amazing fitment that makes them a bit better than what's currently available. I also don't think they will be making them in 5 years even if they are accepted by the MX community at large. I just have a feeling they are jumping in to gain some street-cred from all the 15 yr. old novices who wear 6.0 and flat billed hats. I'm also pretty sure legit skaters think 6.0 is for posers......Nike SB on the other hand is core.

Nike is ONLY concerned about the bottom line on a balance sheet. When MX boot sales still don't show a profit in a few years they will be gone as quickly as they came.

Did you ride a yz400 back in 99? Compare that to a yz450 of now. Think of the advancements in the last 10 years. My point is every new feature except the cassette tranny is the same. Think about it.

I had a demo for a few months and I wish it would have taken off. They were on the right path.
